  • If the mention of "Harvey Girls" produces a blank look, then you're probably too young to remember this particular part of America's not-so-distant past. A new documentary called The Harvey Girls: Opportunity Bound is coming to KCPT on Thanksgiving night. It's a mix of history, food, trains and sociology that director Katrina Parks has put together to celebrate the legacy of these women. The film made its debut this summer at the National Archives in Kansas City, in conjunction with their exhibit on Fred Harvey, The Man, The Brand and the American West. Randy Mason spoke with Parks as well as one of those original Harvey Girls. Opportunity Bound will air on KCPT November 28 at 7pm. The National Archives Fred Harvey exhibit will be up through January 4.

A great Harvey House exhibit is on view in Belen, NM, a small town outside Albuquerque (probably the one discussed here).
