On a train trip West to become a mail order bride Susan Bradley meets a cheery crew of young women traveling out to open a " Harvey House " restaurant at a remote whistle stop to provide good cooking and wholesome company for railway travellers. When Susan and her bashful suitor find romance daunting, Susan joins the Harvey Girls instead. The saloon across the street with its alluring worldly-wise women offers them tough competition, fair and foul, and Susan catches the eye of the Ned Trent, the distant but intense proprietor of the bar.

I volunteer at the Nevada State Railroad Museum that currently houses the train from this movie. I love climbing onto the passenger cars in the same spots as Judy and Angela. You can almost feel their spirits.
This film is beautiful. Judy Garland looks really amazing and her performance as Mrs. Bradley was great. Perhaps it's a simple story but the film deserves more fame. If you can watch it, please do it. I really want to write more about this movie but my english sucks...so for now, trust me...this is an enjoyable picture.

The film that I fell in LOVE WITH MY GIRL JUDY GARLAND! I was just 8yrs old. Her at back of the train singing THE VALLEY WHERE THE EVENING SUN GOES DOWN! Her VOICE REACHED OUT TO GRAB ME AND I WAS HERS! 🙂

The best ever entertainer and singer Judy plus the best ever female dancer Cyd plus Angela the best dramatic actress ever and Bolger the best hoofer ever lived (along with Nicholas Brothers of course). What could I ask for more ?!

I suddenly realized why they insisted on using so many annoying title cards, blocking the picture: because Epic Trailer Voice Guy hadn’t been born yet.

You forgot about The Scarecrow (Ray Bolger). Also Marjorie Main was in Meet Me In St. Louis with Garland as well.
Then again, back then actors/actresses belonged to certain studios so they were "told" which pictures they would be in. That's why Judy Garland and Mickey Rooney did so many pictures together. But you'd get a lot of the same people in movies together bc you worked for say Paramount and you didn't do movies for another studio unless they worked out a special deal.

日本が一番貧しかった時代が、皮肉にもミュージカル映画の最盛期だった。その為この映画を筆頭に多くのミュージカル映画が未公開に終わった。しかし多くの日本人はＭＧＭミュージカル映画の価値は分からないだろう、残念。
