      If you look carefully, virtually all Tu 154 have a tendency to activate those reverse thrust clamshells before the front wheels touch the runway, and often before any part of the undercarriage hits the tarmac. I suspect for the Tu 154 - that’s considered NORMAL procedure 😊👍

      Joe Polchlopek Visually similar to a B727, but otherwise a much better design overall, much more powerful and much more faster. Bit of a military based aircraft in a passenger carrying frock. I witnessed one of these shorten a 4 hour flight to 3 hours. It was running an hour late but somehow made up the missing hour during the flight. Suffice to say the descent into Libya’s Tripoli Airport was more of a shallow dive coming in over the desert. They even used S bends to slow it down, before arriving perpendicular to the Tripoli glide path, executing a tight 90 degree turn and landing barely 45 seconds after the turn. Now if that isn’t a military grade Tupolev wolf in a sheep’s frock, I don’t know what is! 🤣🤣🤣
      Most exhilarating flight I ever had in my whole life! 😃👍

      No, about in the range of b727 or 737. Though it depends on weight. Seems like Almost all of these tu154m are at about 50% fuel, plus pass and cargo. So touch down speed around 130kts.

      This version of the Tu-154M has flown around the EU recently. The old version (Tu-154B) with other engines is prohibited. They can be determined by the reverse of thrust: at the Tu-154B it is inside the gondola, and not outside as here. By the way, the IL-76 with the same engines flies around the EU now, there are fresh videos.

    • @dennyilkov9341
      @dennyilkov9341 5 лет назад +6

      Just opposite! Tu154m is an exellent climber, take-off and landing distances are equal or better than 737. It was designed to withstand worst possible conditions on runway, even unpaved, so it have kinda oversized main landing gear. One of the fastest passenger jet.

    • @ErickC
      @ErickC 5 месяцев назад

      I am going to guess it was relatively hot and they were fairly heavily loaded - the Tu-154M (which entered service in 1984, not the 70s and is not to be confused with the Tu-154B) has comparable thrust/weight to a 737-400 of the same era (both around .30 at MTOW) and a pretty decent wing with effective high lift devices. Typically a Tu-154M initial climb is much steeper than we see here. In fact, the Tu-154s departing in this video remind me of 737NGs departing McCarran in the summer, which supports my hypothesis that it was a little on the warm side (it was June, after all).
      On the subject of runway use, bear in mind that, in the real world, the goal is to use as little thrust and as much runway as is feasible given the performance of the airplane at a given weight. Using more runway and taking off at a higher speed dramatically improves initial climb performance and using minimal thrust dramatically affects wear on the engines. It's a balancing act of economy and safety.

      @@mikecole819 - I heard that on some a/c types, including the Tu-154, you can activate the thrust reversers MECHANISM when you are already at flight idle power in landing configuration. But you can add reverse THRUST only when the main landing gear struts sense the weight of the aircraft. The whole point is to reduce landing distance by deploying the mechanism already in the flare stage, so the aircraft won't float so long in ground effect.
