Great video Dr Lori! Several years ago I had you appraise my Aunt's items that her children and grandchildren didn't want after she had passed. They sold the items through their social media accounts and were blown away by the fact that they were able to get your stated appraisal price. There were a few that actually went for more locally just because the people who knew her wanted them and had no idea they were being sold until they saw it advertised. Makes your statement of "ask everyone " so true. Thank you for your dedication!

Thrift stores vary, even within the same chain. However, in December I picked up two Lladro figurines for $2 each. Today while at a nearby thrift store, different chain, they had two Lladro figurines in the case. One was $14.99 and the other was $24.99. The store (the first with the $2 Lladros) where I picked up the pink Archemedes Segundo Murano shell you appraised for me I only paid $4 for. I see mass market paperweights (cloudy, rough bottom) in the second store for $10 or more each. Sometimes it's being in tbe right place at the right time. Thanks for your videos 😊!
I have a great relationship with one of my op shops (thrift store) and they know they have valuable items on the shelves however they’re run by volunteers, they don’t have the time to individually look up each donated piece, they don’t have the expertise of experience with selling on a marketplace platform and finally they’re in the numbers game, they need to keep the lights on, they need to sell sell sell.
I was in a small town thrift store last week, one that I have loved going into. It's usually one person swamped with donations trying to get things in order. This time there were 3 workers (standing in the way, small store). Every item I was interested in was unmarked so they would google it. Pretty annoying.

My former spouse harassed me until I purged (essentially, gave away) the majority of my collection at yard sales. He's a husband of the past. I now have one who would like more space (as would I), but he also appreciates the intrinsic value of my purchases, as well as the coolness factor, which, in turn, makes me appreciate his coolness factor.
I think a lot of resellers forget in their greed the whole idea to a thrift shop. I have heard resellers say stuff like the person that donated this was ,so dumb. Many donate out of the kindness of their heart to help raise money for people who are hurting. I have a friend thats very well off that redecorates their house every couple years and he is very well aware what he paid new for his items ,but donates to help raise funds for the needy. A thrift is a charity.

However, I really encourage you to try to develop a thicker skin and not let liars & other annoying folks with ulterior motives get to you. It is true for all: the more you are in the public eye, the more nay-sayers you will have. It is impossible to respond to them all and trying to do so will only drag you down. Luckily, the vast vast vast majority of your viewers know your value and can see these criticizes for what they are -- be they ignorant, self-motivated, or just plain mean-spirited. When they can show you that they have Phd's, THEN acknowledge them. Otherwise, rain on them!!! Regarding not being able to sell items where they live, oftentimes sellers are too lazy to list online because then they will have to actually PACKAGE the items. IT'S CALLED WORK!

As a teacher and a student I learned to laugh at the student who changes their answer to a test question every time they ask another student (on an open book test) ---until they turn in the test with the wrong answer. It is comparable to someone asking you for a value and then going to ask 3 or 4 other "experts" for the value and they end up selling an item for too low or can't sell due to wrong market, time, etc. Your advise is invaluable to those who take it. I love to re-watch videos and guess the value you will say. I also play the Tuesday morning games at home. Please don't get your feelings hurt and stop doing what you do. I always appreciate your educational style as you share your vast knowledge. 🥰 My question is, have you ever been stumped? Has anyone ever brought an object to you that you DIDN'T know about right off? Do you have a photographic memory? I've never seen someone recall such a vast amount of knowledge, in as many different types of objects, as quickly as you do! As someone that owned a Gourmet Deli for 8 yrs and tended bar for an additional 25 yrs I learned... "Ya can't please em all" It is impossible. I used to say too my "picky" newbies... Dr. Lori my son moved out, left some of his things, my in-laws both passed and we had a whole household to empty. Plus I had been buying on online auctions. Yes it’s out of hand!! How do I get it listed faster or should I give some of it to charity? The only things I won’t let go of is my jewelry collection!!! People are jealous of all the things you know!! I have a small booth in a seconds/antique/junk store. There are things that don’t sell in my store that sell better on line. Duh, I don’t try to sell those thing. You have to know your market. Just because I can’t sell Precious Moments and other such things from booth doesn’t mean Dr Lori is wrong. I am responsible for knowing what my market is, not Dr Lori. I have learned so much about the things that do sell in my booth. I am now pricing things so mush better because of watching Dr Lori. Old toys, cartoon related, and odd things sell best for me. Oh, I laser cut and make earrings, they sell well. Thanks Dr Lori for teaching this retired nurse a thing or two. This little side hustle keeps me active and on my toes.

My experience with Dr. Lori V - I bought an old Japanese style picture that looked interesting for under $5.00. I had Dr. Lori appraise it through her site, and it appraised for $250.00. I listed it on-line for sale for $265.00 and sold for $220.00 plus shipping. I was willing to take less money for this 1854 antique original Japanese woodblock picture because after shipping it would cost the buyer $320.00. You have to balance those two costs when selling. I was happy with her professional written (typed) appraisal which listed other similar sales and the places she referenced. I would use her services again, as we all benefited. I earned a profit and learned more about the item I found so in the future; I will have telltale signs in what I am seeing. The buyer has an item that will only go up in value. It didn't end up in the bins, which is where it was headed, and yes Dr. Lori V made some money, which I was happy to pay, as she should for her service.
I have watched you for years. You are absolutely correct. People are using your intelligent for reasons that are for themselves. Today's society has turned into people of jealous know it alls. I love it (NOT) when people tell you how wrong you are on appraisals or you don't know what you are talking about, then go "shopping" for appraisers with less knowledge or credibility. They shop until they are told what they want to hear. You get what you pay for. Loyal fan!
I enjoy learning from you tremendously. I respect your education, your fluidity of knowledge, your amazing work ethic and the way you teach.
However, I really encourage you to try to develop a thicker skin and not let liars & other annoying folks with ulterior motives get to you. It is true for all: the more you are in the public eye, the more nay-sayers you will have. It is impossible to respond to them all and trying to do so will only drag you down.
Luckily, the vast vast vast majority of your viewers know your value and can see these criticizes for what they are -- be they ignorant, self-motivated, or just plain mean-spirited. Remember too -- oxygen fuels flames -- starve these guys of attention and you'll be doing yourself -- and all of us -- a big favor.

As a teacher and a student I learned to laugh at the student who changes their answer to a test question every time they ask another student (on an open book test) ---until they turn in the test with the wrong answer. It is comparable to someone asking you for a value and then going to ask 3 or 4 other "experts" for the value and they end up selling an item for too low or can't sell due to wrong market, time, etc.
Your advise is invaluable to those who take it. I love to re-watch videos and guess the value you will say. I also play the Tuesday morning games at home. Please don't get your feelings hurt and stop doing what you do. Both YOU and YOUR STAFF are doing great. I only wish your videos were even longer. ❤🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🦋

My question is, have you ever been stumped? Has anyone ever brought an object to you that you DIDN'T know about right off? Do you have a photographic memory? I've never seen someone recall such a vast amount of knowledge, in as many different types of objects, as quickly as you do! My husband is having a fit at the amount of inventory I have!! He says I will NEVER get it all listed …ever!! Dr. Lori my son moved out, left some of his things, my in-laws both passed and we had a whole household to empty. Plus I had been buying on online auctions. Yes it’s out of hand!! How do I get it listed faster or should I give some of it to charity? The only things I won’t let go of is my jewelry collection!!!

I have a small booth in a seconds/antique/junk store. There are things that don’t sell in my store that sell better on line. Duh, I don’t try to sell those thing. You have to know your market. Just because I can’t sell Precious Moments and other such things from booth doesn’t mean Dr Lori is wrong. I am responsible for knowing what my market is, not Dr Lori. I have learned so much about the things that do sell in my booth. I am now pricing things so mush better because of watching Dr Lori. Old toys, cartoon related, and odd things sell best for me. Oh, I laser cut and make earrings, they sell well. Thanks Dr Lori for teaching this retired nurse a thing or two. This little side hustle keeps me active and on my toes.

My experience with Dr. Lori V - I bought an old Japanese style picture that looked interesting for under $5.00. I had Dr. Lori appraise it through her site, and it appraised for $250.00. I listed it on-line for sale for $265.00 and sold for $220.00 plus shipping. I was willing to take less money for this 1854 antique original Japanese woodblock picture because after shipping it would cost the buyer $320.00. You have to balance those two costs when selling. I was happy with her professional written (typed) appraisal which listed other similar sales and the places she referenced. I would use her services again, as we all benefited. I earned a profit and learned more about the item I found so in the future; I will have telltale signs in what I am seeing. The buyer has an item that will only go up in value. It didn't end up in the bins, which is where it was headed, and yes Dr. Lori V made some money, which I was happy to pay, as she should for her service.
It goes back to what you've said before. By sharing all this information, you are making it harder for some folks to con other people.

Thanks Dr. Lori for explaining pricing at thrift stores. So often we hear the items are donated therefore we should give it away for free. Even tho 100% of our profits go back into the community, they are still after the deal. When I suggest they volunteer at our shop, they quickly change the subject. Oh well!
