The bit about "practice" when you talked about freehand was so important. When I am teaching painters, I have to stress this. They consume tons of videos and pictures and articles online about how to paint, but are then frustrated when something isn't working for them right away. Art isn't just something inborn, or made of "natural talent". Yes, some people have a predilection towards, or pick-up artistic things easier than others, but it ultimately comes down to practice. Many of us - who are award winners - had no artistic ability when we began painting minis.
The skill and confidence to drop that freehand on the sublimely transitioned cape right on the very front of the model is just insane. I can’t imagine being able to correct something like that if a brush stroke went astray.
thank you so much Angel for giving us painters all those tips and tricks ... for free ! i'm a big fan of your channel and lastly i can see evolution in my paintings :)
Really good. I tried the first blood angel color guide on my blood angel praetor in terminator armor but since I'm new to this hobby and my airbrush skills are near zero I worked mainly with my brush. It worked out well. My second figure thus far. I will try this color guide for my mephiston. Thank you for these videos. Cant wait to see the ultramarine.👍👍👍
Thanks, if you are a beginner, check out this video ruclips.net/video/elF3Ml6qmVs/видео.html, it could help you :). I'll upload the Ultramarine video this month 💙
A video about blending colors with a brush would be great and very very helpful. I learned so much about airbrush blending from your videos that I paint skirts and cloaks easily with an airbrush, but still struggle with a brush. Especially with light colors like white and beige.
I love how you have just an apt feel to choose the right colour for the right result, a skill that I find it very hard to develop. My only point of critique is that there is no part of the video that is not sped up. I understand the necessity to speed up the video, but it would have been great if there was just a small part where one could actually see how fast or slowly exactly you use the brush in the process of blending the cape. Looking forward to the sword!
💖 Red heart this time! ;-) Another great video! Now I'm finally infected again. I definitly need to paint miniatures again! Thanks for your great videos, Angel! And another great "thanks" for explaining techinques like blending a little better! :-)
How to correct mistakes that you don’t find until after its dried? Like an accidental smudge of black on a red area that’s been wet blended, glazed, painted with a Citadel Contrast or washed? Because the area has been coated in a contrast or wash, or several layers of glaze, you cannot just use base coat red to correct/cover up the mistake. Painting red over the black smudge, then a contrast or wash over the black paint mistake causes the area around the mistake to be darker where the new layer and original layer of contrast/wash/glaze meets. What to do?
Beautiful work! I have your books and they are wonderful resources. I do have to say that I had horrible luck with the Vallejo paints. Even after opening the bottle and mixing the paints vigorously, the paint was clumpy, and dried very shiny. It was awful. I now use Citadel paints almost exclusively. Very disappointing. The only Vallejo paints I use regularly are the metallics as I find them the best out there. Even still, some of the bottles have issues with the paint. Maybe my hobby shop got a bad batch. I don't know.
Thank you for the demonstration here. One slight thing to make the narration better, use “This is the completed stage (or step).” Rather than “This is the final result.’” It sounds better and would make the narration flow better. Gracias.
I'm trying to follow along and when describing the paint used for the 1st highlight at around the 2:35 mark the painter holds up red gore and bloody red but the voice over says scarlett red and bloody red. which is the correct red? I know Gore and Scarlett are similar but one is brighter.
love your videos. The only thing I'd like to change is if you were to include by how much you've speed up certain sections. I understand you need to speed up the playback to show everything but it would be good to know how much faster it is so we can understand how long layers are taking to dry in real time.
@@M3Studios good to hear that :). The cost of production is really expensive 😅but I finance my channel with my savings and the support of my sponsors :). I trust in this project and if the community support me, this channel will grow up more :)
Hello Maestro ! I hope a video on the elfheim eagles of the Blood Bowl elves very difficult to manage because a mixture of yellow and purple on which I have been doing my teeth for 2 months ... 😤 thank you again for these superb videos and warmly the 3 / 3 on Mephiston 🙏👍🏼
Fantastic video. Really liked the purple in the cloak and gloves. This will play well together with the head. I wonder why you didn't add highlights to the black freehand ...
Since finding your videos and painting techniques i have improved to a point i thought i could never get to still a long way to go however. Thanks for these tutorials they really help us a lot can't wait for the next ones. Do you prefer Metal miniatures or Plastic ones? i find the metal ones have crisper detail which i prefer
Wow, Mephiston is looking really good! I wanted to ask, when you airbrush the shadows on the red robe, why do you do this step after highlighting the red? I am worried that I might make a mistake a get shadow colour on the highlight. Is it because you are using the airbrush to help blend in the highlight layers?
@@AngelGiraldeZ thanks for the reply, though I think my question wasn't clear. I know why you apply the shadows, but I wonder why you apply them at that stage after the highlights instead of before. I would have thought applying the airbrush shadow before the highlight instead would take away the risk of getting over spray on the highlight? Sometimes when I try to airbrush I get little spots of overspray in places I do not intend.
@@adamoakson3076 ahhh ok,.Red is a very difficult color and sometimes the process is different, not always (base, shadow and light), you have to see the result and you say, hey! in this part I need more shadows, so the process changes, for example base, light, shadow, tones and light. When we paint miniatures , we have to "play" with the colors and the process :)
For the shadows, is the paint glaze consistency? When painting the shadows on the armour do you want to paint to just go into the grooves or to stain the upper areas as well?
¡gracias!
really great stuff Angel. the videos really add a lot of meaning to your 2 books. Wondering if we could have a NMM video? Similar to your vallejo paint set on NMM.
I noticed very often in your videos, recesses, like for example between folds, are bright, even shiny due to the paint finish. Why do you go for this effect?
you said you glued the head on in the previous video, but now its not there. at what point do you glue on the head and. . . . .what if i already glued my head on. . . . . .

Where you get the plastic blister you use for mixing your paint?
Why do you use matte medium while painting instead of applying a matt varnish in the very end?
Brilliant job so far, would you say citadel paints also require Matt medium?
good question, it depends on color, some Citadel colors are satin
For the shadows, is the paint glaze consistency? When painting the shadows on the armour do you want to paint to just go into the grooves or to stain the upper areas as well?
Yes, more or less, the paint has to be more liquid. Yes, only into the grooves so you get a good contrast :)

Anyone know the science behind why yellow “illuminate” and white “desaturate”? I tried looking it up but cannot find anything.
