    The problem is that the story isn't factual, its opinion. Unless they have confirmed with half of the United dressing room that they are all against the manager, what they are reporting is that one or two people within/involved with the club are of the opinion that half the dressing room have turned against Ten Hag.
    The issue is the manner in which it is reported puts its across as if it is a fact.
    This isn't actually that uncommon, its exactly the same thing thats happens with politics and polititions all the time.
    Its not that the media is inventing or creating a story or a narrative. They just report because it sells. The person/people creating the story are within the club. The problem is that opinions get treated as facts and the sources then given the protection. Opinion pieces should have the source mentioned, because an opinion is only worth as much as the person who's opinion it is. Sources should be protected, but only when they are supplying facts. Unless the story goes on to contain information that states that the media organisations has contacted half of the United squad and confirmed this (and newflash, none of them do) it is not a fact, its an opinion and should be reported as such and the person whoms opinion it is should be public.
    Jordan almost hit on this himself. If he has an opinion, he will state it, but he can be questioned on it. This is an opinion, but theres no way to question it, because we don't know where it comes from. You can't question the media organisation of it, because its not thier opinion, they are just reporting it. Thats the problem. If you going to make opinions public, you must be able to question that opinion.

    • @TP-pq9xx
      @TP-pq9xx 5 месяцев назад +1

      How would a source be protected if they have to be named for the article? That doesn’t make any sense. You are writing a lot of words without saying anything substantive. Do you mean it should be illegal to write a tweet or a web article that’s based on unsourced claims? You’re saying it’s a problem so what is the solution? Spouting off empty platitudes like Simon doesn’t accomplish anything, it’s just whining.

    • @GamerFlair
      @GamerFlair 5 месяцев назад

      @@TP-pq9xx Sources should be protected if they are providing actual evidence, as that evidence itself can easily be examined.
      Sources that are only providing hearsay should not be protected, as there is no evidence to examine.
      The media frequantly use source protection to run stories that are either entirely incorrect, or massively distorted, due to the extreme difficulty in pushing back against it due to source protection. And it also used by non-media personel to use the media to push thier own narratives and agenda's.
      The solution would be a change in slander/defamation legaslation to require media organisations to provide a much higher standard of evidence. The reason these stories are easy to print is because the bar is far to low, as there is very little someone can do when a major media organisations goes "We got the story from a source, we believe them and we also can't name them because source protection."
      Another option would be a clearer definition of public interest. Again, this would get classed as public interest. I would argue it is not. There is no crime, no shady behaviour. There no accusation that Ten Hag is abusing the players. The only questionable treatment that is mentioned would be regarding Sancho and that information is entirely in the public domain already. There is no benefit to society from this story aside from morbid curiosity. Hense it should not qualify for public interest protection.

He is 100% spot on yet again regarding fake news, spinning the narrative and just publishing anything without much evidence or citation or referencing. To the people who actually read these articles and go (Oh no this is awful, I can't believe Rashford's done this, Sancho's done that) ever done a background check on the person who published the article? The name, the date and the credibility of the article you are reading?. I guarantee out of all the people who read news articles only 1% do in depth analytical homework on what they're reading to see if the journalist even has honest credentials or a trust worthy source!. This subject is literally what my class in university has been studying this last month in Criminology/Law. The news, media and how it impacts the class system and social stratification. Simon's spot on with what he's saying here. Always check a journalists citations otherwise it is just bogus publishing. It sells because people don't know what to check for, automatically believe it and it makes profit.

For example, the journalist who said he enjoys it when there is trouble at Manchester United, therefore can his reports be factual or just opinion masquerading as fact.
