Update: My cameras are still going strong after a year and a half of use. I never have to mess with them, it's truly a plug-and-play system. Having the solar panels are a game changer, as they allow my system to stay active without me having to do anything. ( Just remember to first charge the battery inside your camera to 100% then plug the solar panel in. This will keep the battery topped off even with low-light conditions ) Overall great buy. If you guys have questions, please reach out.

Thank you for making this video. I have 4 of these cameras and was not sure how hard it would be to hook them up to solar panels. You made it look very easy.
So I've had the camera's for a year or so. I don't like having to get the ladder set up (especially on my slanted driveway). I wasn't sure if the solar panel would work so I came to YT. Another fellow on here gave instructions for the spotlight camera but never mentioned the Stick Up camera and whether or not the solar panel would even plug into it. Even the ad on Amazon doesn't address the issue. BUT, came here and you answered that and any other questions that I had. Thank You so much for your video, you've made me into a subscriber!
thanks Mark for the step by step installation procedure and set up on the Ring app.on my phone. im 81and not real good on a computer. you made it easy.
Loved the video. Very helpful. The cord from. The solar panel from another video was shown to wrap excess cord around bracket that holds the panel. Then plug into camera. Hides cord well. No need to tape excess wire to Wall. Thought you would like to know. Thanks
Just got one of these with a solar panel and a spotlight pro with a solar panel, so this video is really useful. I noticed your German Shepherd in the yard, I have one too and they are the best security system you can get!
Great info on this, thank you. The interior/exterior stick-on camera is going to be my 5th camera, Rings are a great system with very good customer support.
Exactly what I was looking for. If you want to add a bit of extra touch for protecting the wood, put some clear silicone around the base to keep moisture out from behind the mount which could cause rotting.
Thanks Mark! I gotta get me some of those panels. It'll save me all kinds of trouble climbing my ladder once a week. I have 5 cameras to deal with, and it's a pain.
I have learned to connect your camera to ring video directly, do not link them to Amazon you don’t have too. And ring video charges you less. I have 8 cameras and I have 2 of them out of reach so the solar is the better option. Thanks for the video..
Hello family dude, Currently my battery is at 98% one month after install. My solar panel is facing North so it never gets direct sun. So I would say despite the lack of direct sun, the solar panel is performing great.
Hey. How much adjustment when mounting the camera is there? 45*? more? Also, do you know if the solar panel will charge the camera if mounted inside of a screened in area, like a pool cage? Thanks!
Not exactly sure how much movement as far as 45 degrees go, but camera itself is a wide lens so that helps. You can move the stand the camera hooks up to vertically and horizontally( more so horizontally).
Hey Mark --- Thanks for the detailed set up tutorial, I just have one question: If you have multiple cameras, how to you get the App to show all your cameras in one view on the screen simultaneously? Thanks for your time and assistance
After watching your video I will order a solar panel. My cameras is reachable near my front of my house second level window, I still don’t want to deal with changing the battery.
You should be good to go with the solar panel. Just make sure it’s getting some sun and also make sure your camera battery is charged all the way to 100% before plugging the solar panel in.
I wrapped my excess cord around an empty toilet roll and cable tied it to the stand. I tied the wires together with ties and removed the toilet paper holder
I have two of the smaller solar panels. Only one is wired to my Ring doorbell now. In bright sun it produces around 5.6 volts. If I wire the second solar panel will it help to keep the battery charged longer? These panels are not the Ring brand, too expensive, and it doesn’t show solar panel is connected. Thanks
It might be helpful to note that the base comes off using a phillips and then you can screw the base onto the side of the camera if that is how you want to mount it.
Awesome 👌🏽 review...Did you have to use the anchors or does the provided screws go directly into the wood❓️This setup is exactly what I need. Thanks 🙏🏾
I spread silicone sealant on all my screws and around the brackets to create a water-tight seal because I don't like making holes into my siding / house without sealing them up. It's probably not the end of the world if you don't do this, but it makes me feel better and doesn't cost much money or time if I'm already going to be up on a ladder doing the installation. But you should research what product is best for your walls, climate, etc, before trying this yourself.
My new smart home came with the ring pro security system and two Eero 6 plus mesh routers. Plus the home is prewired with cat 6e in every room. It took me days to get it all up and running. I'm adding two mor ring exterior csmeras. That will be up to Tony Montana, Scarface level. Wait, that ended badly for him did it not? 🤣 But I'm not a drug dealer. (edited spelling mistakes)
When you click on the battery icon in the ring app, look under solar status and see if it says connected. If it doesn't I would check the battery level to see if it's going down over time. If the battery starts to go down then try to unplug and re plug the solar panel. If that doesn't work then I would exchange the solar panel for a new one. Hope that helps
Was your battery fully charged initially? Also, make sure your solar panel is plugged in to the camera all the way. Lastly, make sure your solar panel is getting at least some sun. I find it works best when fully charged. The solar panel will keep the battery topped off.
@@markfrankstechreviews3744 I did not fully charge it and when looking at the settings it was on battery charge. I’m going to try and charge the battery at 100% and then changing the battery setting in the app. Thank so much for your quick reply. Have a good day.
I am having the same issue. I charged the battery at 100% also my panel receives plenty of sunlight all day long but it still won’t power the camera. The app only gives me the options to use a “wired” connection or “battery” as my power source. I’ve tried both and neither allows the panel to charge the camera.
Hello Mike, As far as I know these cameras don't support a continuous live mode yet. I believe Ring can change a few configurations to make that happen in the near future, but it's unlikely that the current solar panel and camera's battery capacity will be able to sustain constant power draw.
Typically, its one solar panel per Ring Cam. There have been some people online who've tried this, but you would have to splice wire which is most likely not recommended by Ring.
We ended up exchanging this model for the slimmer version ruclips.net/user/postUgkx0jZ_lGlDVJhDnmagEU8gn47cmfPNlLQU because it was too wide for the only door trim area that made sense to mount it on. However, we should have just noted the dimensions prior to purchasing. Otherwise, we love the doorbell. It works perfectly, and the video is very clear, even at night.
Yes they do. When you first install your camera, make sure your camera’s battery is fully charged. Basically the solar panel will keep the battery topped off.
Hi there, I'm seriously thinking about solar. I have 3 stickup cams on my house, and I seem to be recharging every 2 weeks. Just put 1 on my other house, which is 10 miles away. So you can see my problem : ( . Even if I just put one on the house out in the valley, I would be happy.. A thought.... if you look at the tv reports with a video of naughty boys, they all seem to look down hiding their faces. So I mounted them about head high..
Chuck, I think it’s a good idea to incorporate solar panels to your security system. I installed my solar panels a little over a year ago and have never had to recharge my camera batteries yet. Quick Tip: Before you hook up the solar panel to the camera, make sure the camera is fully charged. This way the solar won’t have to work so hard and will keep the camera battery topped off.
@Mark Franks Many thanks. I asked the store if had any yesterday. Like a lot of stuff here it's on back order as they say. Was lucky enough to get spare battery.
@Mark Franks Hi Mark, I bought a solar panel today . Got it plugged in to try before I drive out to the valley to mount on cam out there. @Mark Franks Hi Mark, quick question if you don't mind, thanks. Do you know if the cameras cycle between charging and not when on solar. I noticed one showed not connected. Then came good and started charging again.
This panel can put out close to 100 watts ruclips.net/user/postUgkxOqI2yqX0XVrhR2BMJciTWrHJpG8FhJyg when positioned in the appropriate southernly direction, tilted to the optimal angle for your latitude/date, and connected to a higher capacity device than a 500. The built in kickstand angle is a fixed at 50 degrees. Up to 20% more power can be output by selecting the actual date and latitude optimal angle. The 500 will only input 3.5A maximum at 18 volts for 63 watts. Some of the excess power from the panel can be fed into a USB battery bank, charged directly from the panel while also charging a 500. This will allow you to harvest as much as 63 + 15 = 78 watts. If this panel is used to charge a larger device, such as the power station, then its full output potential can be realized.

Hello, great review. I was wondering though why you did not opt for the spot light version of the stick-up solar cam?

Is your ring stick up camera in wired mode for better motion detection?
If you mean a fully wired connection that gives it power then no. It’s a battery operated camera. The solar panel keeps the battery charged.
