- This movie came out when I was 7. It was my favorite movie. Me and my family watched the cartoon at home. Tim Burton had some good friends back then and is my favorite director. It had actual jokes and he threw people off buildings.
Imagine having a house so big you actually have rooms you can't remember ever having been in before.
Some celebs have admitted to owning houses they’ve never even been in or even forgot about..
@@SageofSorrow it I'll
It's kind of deeper than that though, since this is his dining room it shows that he doesn't usually have company over that often. I assume he only has one as they were eating in the kitchen afterwards.
I have a 1,300 sqft house with rooms I never go in.
Usually those are the rooms where serial killers or ghosts find a new home.
“Some of it is very much me...” you know he’s talking about the bat cave.
Yeah. Bruce Wayne is just a costume that the Batman wears...
I have always loved the relationship between Bruce and Alfred. You can tell that Alfred really loves Bruce like his own son. Alfred was always there for Bruce ever since his parents were murdered. Alfred is, in my opinion, the best supporting character in the Batman universe.
I agree
Completely agreed.
Alfred is a great character. He's not just a butler, but a father figure, a mentor and a philosopher to Bruce.
He is his own son!
Yes! And I absolutely love Michael Gough’s Alfred as much as Michael Caine’s
This is, in my opinion, the best scene in any of the Batman movies ever. Purely because it gives us an insight of how close he and Alfred are and because it personalized a hero who is usually scene as cold and morbid. I absolutely love everything about it and it's simplistic beauty.
Although he wouldn't put it that way, Alfred is the father - figure that the murder of his parents took from Wayne.
The only quibble I EVER, ever had with Burton's Batman was making Jack Napier the murderer of Bruce Wayne's parents. A departure from canon.
I think George clooney is the beSt
You also have to give it to the set piece and its symbolism. The long table, large dining room, really cold and unpersonal, then the smaller kitchen where it feels cosy and sincere. All of that, portraying layers of Bruce Wayne's mind. The facade and the heart.
I started warming up to this movie more as an adult. I liked it as a kid, but the Wayne stuff bored me. As an adult, I can appreciate the visual symbolism much more clearly now.
I like how much of an enigma Keaton's Wayne is.
I think the contrast betwen this nebbish normal guy and his extravagant wealth attracted Vicki to him. It made her almost want to 'figure' him out on a primal level.
I like how the movie allows us to infer a lot of things rather than explain everhthing to us. I love the Nolan films, but the beauty of Batman 89 (and Returns) is that it allows the viewer to come up with their own conclusions about who Wayne is.
I love this scene!!!
Fan theory: the long table represents the vast levels of distance that this bruce wayne puts between himself and others, vicky gets his guard down and he abandons the table when he feels comfortable enough to move on to a smaller one (so to speak).
You hit the nail on the head.
that's interesting and true
I think it just shows how socially awkward and isolated he is.
fan theory: it was a tactic he used, because he knew Vicky wants to get closer to him if there is a big distance like this - reverse psychology in dating. He wanted to bang her, WITH SCIENCE!
This was the very first practice of social distancing 😬👊---------------👋😧
Nobody has done a better job at nailing Alfred's character than Michael Gough. R.I.P.
I'd say Michael Caine and Jeremy Irons weren't anything to sneeze at, But as far as Efren Zimbalist Jr.'s DCAU version, but in live action, no one does it better than him
this is why i prefer his bruce wayne out of everyone else
like everyone else just plays this playboy type player but he actually has heart and soul.... is such a complicated character
Keaton does his double role brilliantly and believably. Whenever he's masking his inner self under the shell of a millionaire playboy, he is warm and smiley, making women laugh. But in the bat suit, he's tough, silent and brooding, releasing the darkness in his soul. Even when he's Wayne, you can still see just a glimpse of his dark side, you can tell that he is hiding something, but even then you could not believe that he's actually Batman without knowing.
PeyserConley X Vicki was kinda right in this scene to spot something out on the whole and stuff doesn’t seem like Bruce at all which pretty much says that he doesn’t hide too much well when a woman gets to know him.
So many people.could be a death wish hero.just give them the body armor and weapons to revenge the wrong no matter their race.let them Clea the place up.
"Did you have a hard time finding the house?"
"What, you mean the huge mansion standing alone on top of a forested hill? No, no I didn't."
A great scene showcasing how GOOD Keaton was
The first real batman.in my life.1989.not to say.i came up with the old one.the batdance. Still makes me laugh.
he's back as Batman in the 2023 movie The Flash.
You know isn't it strange we've never got a cinematic Bruce Wayne who's anywhere near as psychologically complicated as Michael Keatons? He plays the aloof, completely out of touch but not ignorant or idiotic billionaire yet shows a rare amount of depth which shows us glimours of his dark side when needed.
I think that's because Keaton's Batman is the only one that was psychologically disturbed.
@@jalenjohnson1662 I'm glad that Pattinson's Batman took notes and went even crazier
@@jalenjohnson1662 Pattinson, Clooney and Bale's batman's were all incredibly disturbed
@@iceman5117Clooney? Hell no, bat-credit card! Maybe you meant Kilmer
That's what I like about Michael Gough's Alfred. He's not just a butler and father figure to Bruce Wayne, he's also a mentor to Bruce and a philosopher.
Alfred is definitely my favourite supporting protagonist of batman
@Chandros Evans sort of
This is THE scene that defines the character of Bruce Wayne, in my opinion.
Sheer perfection!
I misremembered this scene as existing to show Bruce putting distance between himself and his date. I didn't remember the part that came after the ridiculously long table.
This Batman is so much warmer than other versions. I don't like it when writers take his dysfunctionality to an extreme and make everyone in his life hate him for being a closed off douche.
I love the way that Bruce says “ Alfred is my family.” It was touching and loved and yes Alfred is Bruce family and more like a father to him.
Vicki: "You know, all this stuff in this house, doesn't even seems like you at all."
Bruce: " Some rooms are much like me, some it isn't."
It really showed Bruce's personality who was uncomfortable where he's living.
The most beautiful woman i have ever seen in my life
Erdal Tan shes a babe!
If I hung out in a cave.and she talked to me.yeah.
Are you kidding me? There are limitless women out there who are hotter.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Your full of shit Kim Wilde and Kim Basinger back in the day I don't know if there's any sexier woman than those tow
3:09 Bruce summed up his and Alfred's relationship in one sentence.
The DCEU movies badly lack scenes like this. That long table setup is too funny.
Not really. WW, MoS and BvS have scenes like this. Such as Clark and Lois in the bath scene, It's not an S scene, Diana and Steve dancing, Clark and Martha, ect....
@@mustardpower7123 how is it with both Burton movies and the Nolan trilogy there are still people out there trying to justify the shitshow of the modern DCEU? So terrible, its depressing g when you compare them.
I blame marvel for being successful with that cartoony popcorn shit WB suits tried to replicate it with HACK Snyder
@@leninswalrus Those people you're taking about are Snyder's fanboys. Most annoying and have no mind beyond that of a 12 year old. Good to see someone smart enough to recognise him and his fans.
@@leninswalrus yeah fuck marvel for making entertaining movies and an actual consistent connected universe 🤨and not the fact warner brothers didn’t give a shit about the source material and wanted to rush their own shared universe together ASAP to catch up not realizing the success the MCU turned into was because it was built up over time with committed actors and people like Feige who get what their consumer wants.
@@mad_titanthanos people like different things. If what people enjoy is what you use to feel smarter than people, then you're probably no different than Comic Book Guy from the Simpsons.
He's actually the first to practice social distancing who would have thought back then 👍
Well, I mean he is a bat......
If I was a millionaire I'de still continue living in my little 400 sq ft studio apartment keep on working and just use all that money for just like vacation trips.
(Dinner table scene)
I swear the first time I saw this movie and this scene, I thought Bruce was going to slide the salt shaker down the table. 😆
Great Michael Gough. When he passed away, only Michael Keaton pays him tribute.
That's true
Greatest movie of all time
Social distancing. He is a bat. I finally got it.
I love the scene of the three of them talking in the kitchen.
I saw this when it came out in the theaters. The dinner scene always made me laugh. The audience laughed when Vicky asked for the salt...
I like Keaton better as Wayne than Bale because he doesn't act like a billionaire playboy. He isn't completely socially awkward, but it's clear his social skills aren't at a peak which makes him relatable to most people. It makes it easier to put yourself into the character's shoes.
This Dinner table is featured in The Flash Movie
My favorite Batman film...for many reasons.
I love t when he says, " did you have trouble finding the house?" Ha HA
She was at his party. I don't know why he'd ask her that anyway
La_Trolette he was probably trying to find something to talk about! LOL
@@latrolettteeeeeee I put that as a goof on the IMDB page! It has always bugged me! Even if it's not a plot hole, I would've liked for Vicki to be like "Um, excuse me I've already been here".
@@latrolettteeeeeee I always thought he was just joking about the fact his house is massive and not hard to find.
Michael Gough - The best " Alfred " of them all. With the possible exception of Sean Pertwee in " Gotham ".
Daniel Appleton I agree. Though Jeremy Irons was great. Never got attached to Michael Caine though.
@@maxfrankow1238 "That's because i'm not the Alfred you deserve or want... I'm the Alfred you need and is stuck with..." (Cue: Evil Laugh)
Keaton forever the true Batman and Bruce Wayne. Seems everyone plays the Bruce Wayne from The Batman Begins but this layered character here. Is the comic one. He has this aura that's pure mystery.
What a delightful romantic comedy
Knows every form of martial arts, trained by the League Of Assassins, expert in several forms of psychology and forensic science… can’t figure out how to ride a horse.
As a kid this room seemed like the size of a castle
Now I can see that it's just a really big room.
I think Michael Gough has always been my favourite Alfred.
I'm going to have an Armory when i get my billions
And a mansion just like Wayne Manor
I like how Keaton's Wayne is quiet, reclusive, eccentric. Bale's was more playboyish.
This is one of the best scenes in the movie, and why Keaten is at least the best Bruce Wayne.
This is the sweetest scene and really speaks volumes about Vicki’s character, she’s not too good to sit and eat with the “help”. They all sat together and enjoyed the evening even more than expected.
Anyone who knows anything knows Alfred is by far more than just "the help". He is the backbone behind Bruce. He is persevered as both himself and as Batman for as long as he had because he's had Alfred's support and concern
00:44 I see , Putin style .
‘Some of it is very much me.’
He’s talking about the batcave.
literally every time i eat soup I think of this scene.
The one thing that I remember being off about this movie was him driving a Chrysler in one scene
Michael Keaton #1 at the 🦇. 😃
“Did you have a hard time finding the house?” 😂
Having someone like Alfred is a blessing ❤️
This scene is so realistic in life
The best and Unique batman
Both a modest life and a lavish life is like me.
I can live in comfort in both.
In 1989, some people thought Michael Keaton was a _poor_ choice for portraying Batman.
Remember: The only Superhero movie franchise before this was Christopher Reeve's Superman-All four of them-and Christopher Reeve was in perfect health.
Imagine Reeve with his 6'4" frame standing next to Keaton's 5′ 9″ height. The Dark Knight would need milk crates just to have an eye-to-eye conversation with the Man of Steel.
does anyone know what kind of soup they are eating?
Campbells beef broth
tomato soup lol
Bat soup
Bruce probably eats all his meals in the Batcave
He does.
The Corona virus . prediction.
This is true.i remember 1989 batman.will you please pass the salt.lol your good.
If I didn’t know any better, I’d think he was Batman or something
Batman predicted Social Distancing 30 years ahead of his time
Michael, I'm sorry. I already pick someone else who is beautiful then Kim Basinger who played Vicki Vale. But Terry Farrell is a good actress and model. And she played Jadzia Dax in Star Trek Deep Space Nine. But she didn't cast as Vicki Vale in this movie but she didn't appear anywhere in 1988 and 1989. She wasn't even there.😢😢😢😭😭😭She-- She was in her last 80s movie was "Crazy Legs" Aka "Off The Mark" she didn't know when she coming back on the screen that time that year. Uhh-- I-- I didn't know her for the first time I saw her on the first episode of "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine." And Umm, um, Tim Burton filmed this movie a year before it released that summer of 1989. I can't watch this.😢😢😢😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 The only Batman movie I put on is "Batman Returns" was the 1992 version of Terry Farrell. Until Batman Returns coming up, Terry Farrell will be merge. I use the Youcut apps and Video Merge apps on the phone. Batman Returns came out last year the same year is one of Terry Farrell movie like "Hellraiser 3."
To be kind of fair Bruce did spend most his time in the bat cave then in the house 🏠 to so 🤔 i probably wouldn't know what the rooms are in the house except for the entrance to get to the cave 😀
Do you wanna know the truth? I don’t think I’ve ever been in this room before.
2:05 - 2:40
I love this scene with Alfred, it shows how kind hearted he is.
Michael Gough was the perfect adaptation of Alfred.
There will only be 1 real Alfred. Keaton is great but this Alfred is king.
Wow, Bruce Wayne practiced social distancing with guests like about 30 years before the COVID-19 pandemic even existed. Guy does social distancing before it was strictly necessary just because he's shown to be a socially awkward billionaire in public. And wow, Bruce you have a long dining table where you and Vicki sit on either side. It's a great representation how Bruce Wayne always keeps his girlfriends at arm's length due to his secret vigilante work as Batman and not wanting them to be involved in it at all due to their safety. But he's grown to trust Vicki enough to at least later in the film as Batman, let her into The Bat-Cave and I mean before this point, he only allowed Alfred in due to him being the most trusted person in his life even caring for him for when right after his parents were murdered. Bruce Wayne practiced social distancing before it was cool, definitely.

BAT man having SOUP
Whoa!! That is one LONG Table!!
Amazed this specific clip is on here. I was searching for it to illustrate our dining table to my girlfriend and here it is. thanks.Thanks.
BITCH PLEASE.. YOU HAVE NO GIRLFRIEND.
@@latrolettteeeeeee Bitch please... You got no dining table!
Keaton went from batman to chick hicks to ken to vulture
You wouldn't think Basinger was in her mid thirties here
I 100 o
Pasent agree she still looks good now in a raged way but in her youth she was as hot and as beautiful as any person could possibly look much prettier than Michelle Pfeiffer just like Kim Wilde was much prettier than Madonna
Mid?
1:46 to 1:55 probably the funniest Batman scene ive ever seen
Always felt like 1989’s Batman’s Bruce Wayne was aloof due to wealth, obsession but also autism
People can debate who was the better Batman, but to me there was never a better Alfred than Michael Gough
I now see where people got the idea for “social distancing”......
as you can see , bruce wayne does not come out with many women
Distanciation sociale 😁
2020 coronavirus dinner
I would love to have seen Vicki meet Selina Kyle.
Kim Basinger was much prettier than Michelle Pfeiffer I like a hot blonde rarther than a generic blonde
In my opinion, Keaton played a pretty realistic Bruce Wayne. Think about it, a man who never recovered from the trauma of watching his parents gunned down in front of him, dresses up like a bat and beats up criminals in the night? He WOULD be a social awkward, very distant, erratic and aloof guy. While Bale did a far superior job as Bruce than he did bat man, I felt like in public, he was just way to charismatic, eloquent and refined. Like, he really didn't have a problem making friends or at least trying to get people to like him. This Bruce is more believable. He struggles finding a balance for his ordinary life and his caped crusader life.
I would love date Bruce Wayne
20 years later it appeared on teen titans
Tim Burton's Batman movies are known for such completely random but memorable scenes like these.
covid19 dinner date
On another note, even judging by the scraps on their plates, I’d still say that food looked delicious
I was trying to figure out what they had- I always do when dining scenes come up. It looked like steak with a pasta side dish.
LOL, this is funny!!
What soup were they eating? Pea? Lentil? Looks nice...
I bet this is what a date with Putin be like.
What kind of soup were they having?
droppedframes
You know you have family money when you have to yell across the room for salt 😂
F. K. In the coffee, crispy as a sunny morning
liight the candles bruce.
I love this scene!
Is it me or does
She look like
Taylor Swift!?
Says the soup is great and immediately asks for salt lol
Why are they seated at opposite ends of the table like that?!? lol
