I walked by a Balenciaga store last week and it looks like a cartoon store. Balenciaga was one of the great couturiers. What they have done to his name is ridiculous.
I always get a “first year at fashion school” vibe from Demna. It’s just very shallow in concept and he’s trolling instead of pushing the envelope like Cristobal did.
Well, he is better then the over wrought impossible n nonsense from Olivier at Balmain. I happen to love cleverly c rated things that are meant to look simple, but are not.
Does anyone else notice that models used to look proud to be wearing lovely clothing, in contrast to present day models, who look like the whole affair is an unwelcome interruption in their lives?
Theatrical costumes are not couture. It is absurd. The campaign that included vile child references should have been the end. More than boundaries were pushed.
One coment here says "Demna made Balenciaga relevant" but relevant doesnt mean Creative. Cristobal was the original source, and Nicolas Guesquiere were the only ones capable to be creative and yet beyond relevant. Relevance is just the flavor of the moment.
Balenciaga needs a new creative director who understands the legacy of the then house & gives it a modern classic twist. Until then i don't see Balenciaga being a go to brand or having a complete comeback truly.
The Balenciaga ad campaign still leave an awful taste in my mouth. I don't like gimmicks in fashion. This brand seems to be relying on gimmicks and not creativity. Balenciaga is a turn off.
Demna has made some exquisite evening wear that is often more reminiscent of old Balenciaga than much of Ghesquière's pieces. While most people seem to only notice the Streetwear and bizarre accessories, all of which are a departure from the original house's designs, you WILL FIND in every single collection exquisite dresses. Also the expansion of handbags under Demna hasn't been all bad, and flat out I adore several different pairs of Balenciaga shoes made under Demna. I agree with much of your statements here because so much of what we've seen is reprehensible, BUT I'm not ignoring the pieces I love from each collection. Some of Balenciaga's audience still sees the elegance of SOME of Balenciaga's pieces, but you literally have to watch every collection and to pay attention. I regularly surprise people by many of Demna's evening gowns.
‘Controveries’ is an understatement. The ‘new’ Balanciaga used child pornography as branding. He completely ruined Cristobal’s legacy. I can’t even walk near the store without getting sick in my stomach. Cristobal would never agree to these hyper modern designs. They squeezed every part of grace out of the fabric. A typical example of how the brand sold their soul to the devil in return for likes.
i still have my black Lariat bag. its a strong piece of fashion history.. and although i am sad to see where Balenciaga went with Demna, i will always charish my pieces from before the scandal.
I have followed fashion for a very long time. I would not purchase any of these items. They are not wearable nor practical in any form. I can go to the men's big and tall and pick an oversized jacket - what makes yours special? Nothing.
As much as I hate Balenciaga’s stunt marketing, I think Demna balances the commercial and art aspects of the house. He did his commercial thing in RTW while in couture he updated the classical balenciaga silhouette with just enough modern touch
I love how they push the envelope but, in some cases i do believe hes trolling us just to see what they can possibly get away with. You can pull of any of those homeless looks at a thrift store 😂....but besides the prices 🤷🏾♂️it cool
The Fashion Indusry is next to Comedy the hardest to get into let alone stay in. So many lost thier houses. Halston, D & G Prada, Anna Sui, Miu Miu. Also so many other Fashion Houses faded into obscurity. Pierre Cardin, Oleg Cassini.
They should have let the brand well alone back in the 90'ies. This is always such a risky business (also look at Schiaparelli), and there is always a greater chance of ruining the uniqueness of the history and legacy. (Let's face it, who can presume to better Balenciaga himself?) But especially in the brand-obsessed 90'ies (when the madness really started) they were much more focused on making "magic" money than delivering quality, and the temptation was much too great. These days, when most of the great old brands are totally meaningless (and therefore really dying) it is a bit late to ask the question "Is Balenciaga back"? Of course it (HE) is not, and his decision should have been respected. Anyway, too late now. Still such a shame.
This was worst than when new management took over Halston and thru his sketches, references, archives on the garbage and sold samples for 20 bucks. They just don’t give a damm.
Demna made Balenciaga interesting - bordering on the mockery of the superficial while getting sales at the same time. He did not fail Balenciaga, he made it relevant.
I like Balen cigar far more than any other houses. They aren't top notch, but they are better than Balmain. I cut stand them. I'm also very weirded out by the child models, but come on, Denma didnt do that.
That's a VERY fast and loose form of using or applying the word "Art" - that's not "art" - it's smug tart with no heart who's also surface area vile and creepy, with sinister undertones...,!!! It's a bloody travesty of injustice and an awful insult to the truly inspirational, inspired, once in a lifetime visionary luminary, light and yet impeccable truly beautiful, to a mesmerizing degree, artistic perfection created by Cristobal Balenciaga....!!! That poor man is surely doing somersaults in his grave watching the grotesque cheap and vulgar disgraceful products being released in his name...!!! They're about as far and opposite of his original legacy as one could possibly get - the fact that Mr. Balenciaga decided to completely close his fashion house before he died also gives me the distinct impression that he definitely didn't want to even leave open to chance the prospect that some ne'er do well like Demna might someday come along and destroy the beautiful, classic entire legacy that Mr. Cristobal Balenciaga dedicated his whole life to in such a manner - otherwise he'd have quite easily been able to just retire long before he did, sit back and enjoy the easy benefits of the more than plentiful royalties flowing into his bank account while he lounged in the sun (it also would've made a very generous nest egg of an inheritance for his surviving family and/or friends to enjoy long after his death!!) The very fact that 1. not only did Cristobal Balenciaga actively choose to shut down and wing up his company, after having 2. Continued working and not retiring until he was well into his 70's; as opposed to retiring long before that and taking in the handsome royalties; that tells me that he anticipated such a possibility of some glib, smug, off the wall hack job coming along some day and pushing some truly revolting cheap stunts so far beyond the bounds of acceptability whatsoever - and using Cristobal 's neme and storied legacy in order to do so - that Cristobal worked as hard as he did, for as long as he did, WITHOUT SELLING HIS SOUL (or even just his name and likeness - which he absolutely could have done; nobody would've batted an eyelid at the sale of a Going Concern, very prosperous and highly revered and respected worldwide Business being sold by a man who had been working for so long without a break, in order for himself and others (including customers) to keep reaping the benefits of all of his beautiful hard work.... He obviously made the decision he did, after much thought and consideration - and SPECIFICALLY CHOSE TO DO EXACTLY WHAT HE DID IN ORDER TO ENTIRELY ELIMINATE THE POSSIBILITY OF SOME CREEP COMING ALONG AND TARNISHING HIS LEGACY IN SUCH A GROTESQUE MANNER - Only for some cheap shot to sell him out 25+ years after his death anyway (obviously some greedy descendant who was pissed that they ever had to get off their own ass and do a days work, because Uncle Cristobal didn't leave them tens of millions of royalties to live off every year instead - greedy, inconsiderate pri¢k, whoever that was...!!! I hope the money brought them nothing but misery and bad luck...!!! And only for some other Dim as a Half watt bulb 'Designer' (who I personally wouldn't trust with 'designing' how to park a tricycle...!!) to come along 50 years after his death and truly $hit all over his life's work in the most disgusting way imaginable....!!! Great Video - truly very sad story from legacy to tarnished, rubbished legacy though...!!! 💔😭
From splendor and glamour of great Balenciaga to the comoic and not understandearble tailoring of Demna. Please back to the elegants roots and out with Demna.😮This ORFWULL SNEAKERS .WHAT HAS THIS SPORTY ,UGLY STYLE WITH THE HYPER GLAMOUR OF GRAT BALENCIAGA? ????😮😮😮😮

Demna influence by margiela, and most of the balenciaga style are 80s, 90s, early 2000s margiela
Well, he is better then the over wrought impossible n nonsense from Olivier at Balmain. I happen to love cleverly c rated things that are meant to look simple, but are not.
Testify!
Demna needs to be fired and start his own line he can screw that up if he wishes but not continue to trash the balenciaga brand
Balenciaga as a whole now is a joke. The outfits and footwear are seen as unwearable. It looks ridiculous.
Balenciaga rolling in his grave... Back to roots please!

Demna and John Galliano should switch places..
Balenciaga needs a new creative director who understands the legacy of the then house & gives it a modern classic twist. Until then i don't see Balenciaga being a go to brand or having a complete comeback truly.
Balenciaga must be spinning in his grave with the hideous mess designed in his name!
So we just gon overlook the pedo campaign? Canceled forever.
The Balenciaga ad campaign still leave an awful taste in my mouth. I don't like gimmicks in fashion. This brand seems to be relying on gimmicks and not creativity. Balenciaga is a turn off.
Just change the CD! He is the reason why Balenciaga keep falling.

Well said.
Like recent Met Galas😒 more theatre than fashion🤔 Great vid though🤗
selling trash would only go so far... to bad for the name that started it.

Glad this video popped up in my feed - I never knew this man had such a revolutionary impact
i still have my black Lariat bag. its a strong piece of fashion history..

That man is turning in his grave, because of what they have done to his brand

Christobal Balenciaga is rolling in his grave
A very good video btw 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿
How we just smoothing over the pedophilia?
I just don’t get why Demna had to sully the legacy of a brilliant designer. Why couldn’t he do his messed up thing under his own name?
The sack dress still looks bad imo
Great video ❤
Nothing says class like a Kardashian. Perhaps rethink that

Ooh this is the first I’m hearing of a Disney+ tv series about Cristobal Balenciaga 🤩
I wanna watch that
Hope it’s good
It is a brand of bitterness and smugness that benefits the jaded rich.
This was worst than when new management took over Halston and thru his sketches, references, archives on the garbage and sold samples for 20 bucks. They just don’t give a damm.
Background music is annoying.
Wouldn’t buy ANYTHING from this or any other FASHION HOUSE. Give me jeans and a tshirt.

Cris is spinning like a lathe in his coffin. Demna is a bore.
More like out-crapping one another, he’d be turning in his grave I expect 💩
This hype is over since few years
