In the glutton, ironguts & leqdbelcher box there are also a few gnoblars so with 900 pts in ogors you can add 2 gnoblars and be close to the 1k and only use one box

Another alternative is to get the blood bowl team and customize them, four gluttons with clubs and four gnoblars Is 1000 points exact for $40 US. Lots of creative teams for WarCry can be made from blood bowl models basically 👍

For painting armor that looks like it was shoddily painted, try stippling the "painted on color" instead of drybrushing! Super easy "weathering". Just stay away from the edges and the metal underneath will show through.

This video was great! The only thing I would add was for the Gloomspite Gits (And I don't have the new book so the points may have changed) the way I got started was with the Zarbag's Gitz box, which is $25 for a full team.

    • @EasilyDistractedPlanner
      @EasilyDistractedPlanner 3 года назад +1

That's what I did too. Though I don't know if the Zarbag Gitz box is available anymore. Just checked the website, it's showing as Temporarily out of Stock Online, plus the evil red arrow rune. So, I think that would technically disqualify it for this list, if I remember correctly. I grabbed the Zarbag's box and then supplemented with a box of hoppers (because hoppers ;) ). It was a cheap and easy way to play Gitz back when the game just released.

    • @EasilyDistractedPlanner

Yeah, just like Aelves -> Elves and a few others. I still presume those are pronounced elves, just like before, just spelled differently.

  • @anotherzingbo
    @anotherzingbo 3 года назад +1

The Bonesplitterz kit has enough bits to make 2 different bosses, if I recall correctly. An option to consider for the Ogors is to get that unit box you mentioned and the Ogor Underworlds warband, which includes an Ogor, some gnoblars and some sort of hunting animal. The gnoblars should help get an Ogor list closer to 1000 points.
For Flesh Eater Courts their Start Collecting box is good if you want the option to field a monster at some point. I agree with your comments about the Wight King and Cairn Wraith, both are good models, but I can't leave without mentioning how you say "cairn" - it sounds like you're saying Karen Wraith... Who is presumably demanding to speak to the other warband's manager. 😄

Heads up for the Ironjawz, as this is how I got started. You can get to 1k points with a single box of brutes which is, ever so slightly cheaper $54 vs $57. You get fewer models but the brutes are much higher quality than the dated Ardboyz. You also get more choice than the Ardboyz, with 2 weapon choices for the leader, a heavy weapon, and the last 3 can choose between dual weapons or a polearm.

    • @printandplaygamer7134

I was just doing the math on this exact concept. 4 Myrmourn Banshees + 4 Glaivewraith Stalkers = 1060 points, but no leader. You can add either a Cairn Wraith (220pts) or a Tomb Banshee (210pts), and drop banshees and stalkers to get back under 1000. If you're going with the Cairn Wraith, 4 stalkers + 2 banshees puts you at 990pts. The stormcasts in the Storm Strike box add up to well over 1000 points in Warcry, so this combo comes in at $40 for Storm Strike + $15 for the Cairn Wraith or Tomb Banshee, for $55 for TWO warbands! They'll be an interesting matchup, too, because the Nighthaunts are fast but have basically no range attacks, while these Stormcasts are molasses-slow, but the Casties have very punchy ranged attacks.

100% with you on the winged helmets, which is why I clipped them off and they look so much better. The Wight King is a great model but just be aware that he comes with a sculpted square base, which wouldn't be an issue if it didn't include one of his feet as part of the sculpt so you'll need to cut and/or file away most of the base and put it on the 32mm base.

At least in the U.K. the independent stockists can order online only stuff with a small trade discount (or could, it’s been a while since I asked my LGS to do it). You won’t get the full 20-25% discount that an LGS might offer on regular stock but you might well get a small amount off.

To those looking into it, remember also that resellers exist. These companies often have deals with GW to buy their products for discounted prices, allowing you to save a load of money. Wayland Games, for instance, is currently selling the Cairn Wraith for $11 (though supplies are limited). You don't need to feel guilty about this; GW has already made their money off this sale, even if it's not as much as they'd get if you bought directly. All you're doing is saving yourself some hassle. Your wallet won't care about brand loyalty.
If we're on the subject of not caring about brand loyalty, of course, we could just say "buy a third party product" and say it counts as whatever you say it does. But unlike, say, Cities of Sigmar, you're not as able to tap into the historical wargaming miniatures market for the really good deals. But there are plenty of companies putting out goblins, orcs, ogres, skeletons, ghouls, and ghosts. Although not all of them are quite as good looking (especially with the Nighthaunt, who are generally fantastic sculpts). It also matters what your gaming group considers acceptable practice for alternative models. Some people are just fanatically loyal to GW, and would never consider playing with or against off-brand models.

[At least till the new edition] if you have nothing (no dice, no models, no mat, etc) the cheapest way to get into warcry is to pick up the core book, the tomb of champions 2021, and the warrior starter set for age of Sigmar, that will give you two full warbands but it will also give you a game mat and (while not the best) something to use at terrain. So that is a good way to get started too.

Thorns of the Briar Queen has a banshee you could proxy as a Tomb Banshee or Myrmourn Banshee, several generic Chainrasps, and two bigger Chainrasps that could proxy in as a Dreadwarden. If you figure Dreadwarden + Myrmourn Banshee + 6 'rasps, that's just 775. If you call it Dreadwarden + Tomb Banshee (as a hero) + 6 'rasps--the most expensive configuration--that's only 870. However, the Briar Queen kit + either the ETB Banshees or ETB Glaivewraith Stalkers puts you well over 1,000 points, with the 80-point Chainrasps letting you hone in on 1000 pts pretty precisely--although you're still getting your leader by proxying, which might not fly at an "official" event.

Ogor Mawtribes - 1 Box of Leadbelchers. It is a 985 point ranged superiority list. 1 Thunderfist (leader/hero), 3 Leadbelchers, 1 Gnoblar.
The sprues come with 2-3 extra Gnoblars, but you need to provide bases. The other thing is last I checked those sprues also come with enough parts to build 2 Gluttons instead of 2 of the Leadbelchers if you really wanted (they're also big enough parts to magnetize honestly)... So then you could throw 2 Gnoblars in, giving you a 6 body team with a mix of melee and range.
Combat wise Gnoblars are garbage obviously, but at that point it's about having extra bodies on the field to jam something up for a round or two.

Awesome set of guides, though I think you missed a huge opportunity by not looking at any of the underworlds warbands as many of them have straight equivalents to the normal game. While not every warband (nor every model in some of the warbands) would work for this, there are quite a few that seem like they would really help get the costs of some of these warbands down. Came up with a few examples below, though definitely not all inclusive.
    Blades of khorne
    Garreks Reavers $25 (online only)
-3 bloodreavers with meatripper axes (OR) 2 bloodreavers with meatripper axes and one Chieftan 65 each and 140
-2 bloodreavers with reaver blades 65 points each

    Magores bloodfiends $25 (online only)
    -1 chaos champion
-2 blood warriors with goreaxe and gorefist 115 each (OR) 1 blood warriors with goreaxe and gorefist and 1 blood warrior champion 115 and 185
    -1 fleshhound 170 points each
If I'm not mistaken these 2 sets are enough to make a full warband for $50, though the online only is a bit hindering to it admittedly

    Stormcast eternals sacrosanct
    Stormsire's cursebreakers $25
    -1 knight incantor 245 (OR) 1 Evocator-Prime with Grandstave 240 (OR) 1 evocator with grandstave 180
-2 evocators with blade and stormstave 180 each(OR) 1 evocators with blade and stormstave, and 1 evocators-prime with blade and stormstave 180 and 240
This set plus an easy to build castigators with gryph hound OR easy to build sequitors should be enough to make a stormcast sacrosanct warband for $40. Plus there are quite a few older stormcast underworlds warbands that don’t have cards and so are cheaper that could be used for the other warbands as well.

    Nighthaunt
Thorns of the Briar Queen $25 (temp out of stock online)
    -1 Dreadwarden 150
    -5 chainrasps
-1 model with no equivalent (briarqueen) (though it could be argued that it could count as a chainghast or banshee, but that’d be up to your playgroup so I won’t count it here, awesome model regardless though)
This and a box of easy to build banshees could get you a warband with 985 points for $40, and that’s with the briarqueen herself and an extra banshee not even included. Glavewraiths could also work but the numbers don’t fit as well as the banshees to get to 985 points, though the numbers might change if you choose to use the briarqueen as a banshee or chainghast.
I could not find a good combination for any of the destruction warbands as the ironskullz boys (4 ardboys) and morgoks krushas (3 brutes) end up being more than a box of ardboys, plus I only have some of the points costs in front of me as I write this so I couldn’t tell you exactly which brutes the morgoks krushas could be used as. The Hrothgorns mantrappers could be another good one since I believe (could be wrong) that Hrothgorn himself is basically an updated model of an Icebrow hunter. Though Icebrow hunter as leaders specifically buff frost sabers and you only get one and the actual kit for frost sabres is online only and temp out of stock (though not gonna lie, making an ogor warband that is just a small hunting party sounds like fun)
I will say that I’m only currently researching stuff to get into Warhammer and haven't taken the plunge, so everything I’ve written is based on stuff I’ve found online so definitely double check everything I’ve written. Plus I am unsure on some of the warbands above on which models are leaders and which aren’t so that could also factor in case some of the warbands have multiple leaders and couldn’t be used together. Let me know if I have anything wrong here.
(EDIT: just came across that the leader for magores fiend can be used as a chaos champion, though unsure if he could be used as an exalted deathbringer or an aspiring deathbringer as well)

  • @ufig101

Similar to what others have said:
For ogors, the leadbelchers, ironguts and gluttons all have the same body sprue in common. Ironguts and leadbelchers just have their own "upgrade" sprues. As such, with a box of leadbelchers you could actually build a combination of Gluttons and Leadbelchers. As others have said, there are also Gnoblar included in this box. I'm fairly sure there are 2 Gnoblar models common to the three aforementioned kits, with an additional 2 or 3 Gnoblar unique to the Leadbelchers box.
So to sum up, a Leadbelchers box and some extra bases actually can give you 4 Gluttons/Leadbelchers (and their respective leader options) and 4 or 5 gnoblar, which is more than enough for a list :)

Easiest but NOT the cheapest way to get into Order and Death is to get Soul Wars! 51 out of the 52 miniatures can be used within the game(Unless you use the Celestar Ballista as a piece of terrian then win win 52 for 52). If you have the Sentinels of Order and the Bringers of Death books you will have 51 models full of leaders, heros and troops on both sides of the battle field for list building for days! Thanks for all the content love watching the show.

It is very important to understand that if youre getting into any of these skirmish games with the intention of trying to win games, following these "cheapest way" guides can really hurt you because often times these cheap 1 box guides will refer you to an army makeup that will make playing the game not fun at all because you'll get stomped. Nothing worse than spending 30+ hours as a newcomer building and painting an army and then as soon as you take it to the table all that work feels wasted because you really cant win with it as a beginner.

While not a budget option, with the bonereapers you can buy one box of mortek guard , one box of deathriders and one box of stalkers. You can make almost any list combination that's available in warcy.

It takes having an opponent that understands you are just getting into the game and isn't going to curb stomp you with some WAAC list. But it's at least a starting point to build up from.

For Nighthaunt, the Storm Strike set could also work. Your banshees and glaivewraith stalker easily add up to enough points, and with the spare scythe, you could make one of your banshees into a cairn wraith or just appoint her to be a tomb banshee. This also gives you a free Stormcast warband.

    • @JMcMillen

Or search around and see if someone still has the Warcry Nighthaunt Warband box still in stock. I originally grabbed one just for the variouss types of undead for other games, but now I might have to keep them together for Warcry since GW stopped selling it.

Easy to Build Myrmourn Banshees, Easy to Build Glaivewraith Stalkers, and 1/2 box of Grimghast Reapers. If you can find someone to split the box of Reapers with, it will end up costing you about the same as the warband box (minus the cards).

@@JMcMillen The warband boxes for the existing factions were really good deals while they lasted. I only wised up on that at the last minute, and managed to snag the Nighthaunt and Skaven Warcry boxes. About the only ones still available through third-party retailers online are FEC and Legions of Nagash...good deals, but old models. For Nagash, I'd wait for the Cursed City models to become available; it's easy to find affordable non-GW skellies to proxy in while you wait.

You can call the Briar Queen herself a Tomb Banshee or a Myrmourn Banshee, but she's noticeably bigger than the Tomb, and smaller than the Myrmourns; in any case, she doesn't have her own rules.

If I could suggest an alternative for the mawtribes. I went with the Hrothgorn's mantrappers and a box of frost sabres. Comes out to about 50 odd U.S freedom bucks but for that you get an Icebrow Hunter as your leader, three frost sabres and three gnobblars for 945 points. I also got another gnobblar from eBay for like two pounds to bring it to 990.

I made a similar comment on the video for Order warbands, but Nighthaunt have the same advantage in Warcry that the Stormcast Sacrosanct Chamber do: Easy-To-Build sets. You can get a box of Myrmourn Banshees and a box of Glaivewraith Stalkers for 10 dollars less than the ETB Chainrasps, or, for the same cost as the Chainrasps, get the Storm Strike box and either sell half or keep a serviceable Stormcast warband. You still have to buy a Cain Wraith (or Tomb Banshee if you prefer the stats or the sculpt) for your leader, but it's another option, probably about as good as the Chainrasps.
