I have had 3 vans now with this very same problem so I installed a line to each tank just as you have done but did not use a tap I used a one way check valve attached to a bracket on the van much easier than fiddling around with a tap, I have met several people with latter model vans complain about not being able to totally fill their water tanks this solves the problem
Totally un necessary .You should have just looked to see why the air bleed isn't working . Id say from my arm chair view the air bleed is to low it should be higher In fact what an horrid abortion of a set up is that how it left the factory ?????????????????
