This is the second time I've watched this video, to make sure I didn't forget something before I go ahead and get a pump in a box. Thank you very much for making this nicely detailed explanation. Much appreciated !!!
Hi Shaun thank you for your beautiful comments. It is so good to know that you were able to gain your own knowledge that will create a solution that is right for you It makes me so happy to know that I was able to help you Glenn and Nat
Hi there, thank you for watching our video and for your nice comments. We have used the bladder and pump so many times now. It’s so simple and it just works. No lifting, no back strains Glenn and Nat
Often thought about getting a spare 12v caravan water pump just in case the current one fails mid trip - you've given me an idea to mount the spare pump in a box just like you've got. thanks!
Hi and thank you for watching our video. What a great idea to not only to use the pump for transferring water from a bladder but also it’s available as a back up spare Brilliant Glenn and Nat
Thanks for sharing this video. I have been thinking about building my own pump in a box, but for 200 bucks, that premade one is probably going to save me 10 trips to bunnings and back. Appreciate the info!
Hi Andrew thank you for watching our video and you great feedback. Yes the “Pump in a Box” is an awesome solution. I’m glad I can assist in reducing the number of trips to Bunnings. Lol However a trip to Bunnings is certainly still a weekend destination. On a side note….I have made many trips to Bunnings in the past few months building some new solutions for the up and coming “Great Aussie Lap” Stay tuned….. Glenn and Nat
Love your video, great way to carry water for off grid refilling, incidentally I have purchased a number of items from kickass ,great products, nice company to deal with. 😀
Hi Remoteflyboy thank you for watching our video and for your kind words. It’s great that you can use the solution. Yes Kickass were good to buy from. Glenn and Nat
Thank you for showing this. Has filled my head with ideas. Also I realised after seeing you tow with the Ram that your typical 3.5t ute is not up to towing a large caravan over a long trip. I was always uneasy that my Ford Ranger just was too light and under powered for the task. After diving pass a Hilux on its roof towing a caravan, and all this on a straight part of the motorway I was greatly motivated to upgrade. I'm now a proud owner of a Dodge Ram and couldn't be happier. Tows without effort and is very comfortable on long trips. Looks great too.
Hi Rob thank you for watching our video and for your information. Yes I’m so excited with my new water solution. So much easier than my last idea of using 20 litre water containers. We are so happy with our RAM also. So capable and comfortable. Perfect for the big off-grid road trips Glenn and Nat
Hi Dave - thank you for watching our video and for your kind comments. We have used the solution so many times and it makes life much easier when off grid Glenn and Nat
Hi Kevin thank you for watching our video and your kind words. We really appreciate it. Yes you are correct in saying that power can be sorted. Before we started heading off in the van I was worried about how to source water. With this solution it makes life so much easier. Glenn& Nat
Hi Jason thank you for watching our video. That is great that you can use the idea. It will certainly save you a lot of work, especially if you were using Jerry cans Glenn and Nat
Hi Rolanda and thank you for watching our video. I suppose it could be, however it maybe best to contact Kickass and ask them. They may even have a total solution to suit your needs Glenn and Nat
That’s awesome. If the water bladder is close enough to the fresh water tank will the water bladder water gravity feed from hose to fresh water tank? Or is a 12v imperative?
Hi Lou thank you for watching our video Yes I would suggest that if you can position the bladder up above your tanks then gravity should de the trick. However the pump would certainly speed up the water transfer rate Glenn and Nat
Hi guys thank you for watching our video. Yes this is a simple and a great solution. We have used the bladder lots of time during our Lap as we have been base camping Glenn and Nat
Hi Shane and Suzy Thank you for watching our video and for your kind words. Yes it certainly simplifies the task of getting water while off grid. We hope you can use the idea. Glenn and Nat
Just a heads up that an eBay cheapie centrifugal pump ($20) is just as effective, uses far less power and is much quieter. Down side... it doesn't come in a fancy unnecessary box🤷♂ These diaphragm pumps are more designed where pressure is required. We just want good flow rate for this. Still the method used is bang on and very well explained.
Hi and thank you for watching our video. Also thank you for offering an alternative solution for our viewers. When we all band together and provide solutions, it empowers people with knowledge so they too feel confident to travel and enjoy this great country of ours. Glenn and Nat
Hi Michael thank you for watching our video. I hope it gave you some ideas for your solution. I basically leave it draining for a while in the sun. As we only use our tank water for washing and toilet flushing, it takes the issue away of ensuring that the bladder is properly dried. We always use bottled water for drinking Glenn and Nat
Hey guys, love your video - we’re definitely getting one of these (and the pump etc to go with it). We’re going up Bega way with our new van later in the year - curious to know the property your camped on - presume it was a farm-stay?
Hi Russell thank you for watching our video and your kind words. Yes the job of getting water while off grid is made easy with one of these setups. You will love Bega, it has so much to offer. We stayed at Kangarutha Farm. It is a Hipcamp a few kms from the historic town of Tathra. The Farm was perfect for a secluded getaway. If you are interested, it features in our video “NSW South Coast Road Trip - Episode 4” It might give you some ideas Glenn and Nat

Hi Jed thank you for watching our video. I basically put the filter in line with the fill hose. The flow was reduced however not by much. From memory it took about 10 minutes to fill. I assumed the filter was doing its job….. Glenn and Nat
Hi Shagradauyo thank you for watching our video and your kind words. The in line tap was actually part of the pump in a box kit. The items from Bunnings were the tap fitting, click connectors, and wing nut hose clamps. Hope this helps Glenn and Nat

Hi mate like the video i am thinking about upgrading my tow car to a ram, what is the fuel like when towing your van, did you do a upgrade to you ram to carry the weights my van is just under 3 ton we are going to do 12 months trip next year
Hi Glenn, thank you for watching our video. The RAM is amazing. I was totally blown away with is performance and capability. It was the perfect vehicle to tow a 3.5 ton caravan around Australia, especially on the rough roads. People talk about the reliability of certain makes. During the Trip, I spoke to a few people who were having mechanical issues with that particular make and surprisingly, they were having trouble sourcing parts. So don’t be put off with people talking about RAM reliability and part supply. In actual fact, I had the RAM serviced a few times during the trip, and I found that the service agents couldn’t do enough to help me. If you want a vehicle that is reliable, comfortable, powerful and relatively fuel efficient, it’s hard to find a better vehicle than the RAM. We averaged 22L/100km during our 27000km trip around Australia. We did endure some strong headwinds and we were running aggressive AT tyres on both the RAM and caravan which didn’t help the mileage. Some people talk about its payload. Please remember that a RAMs curb weight includes a full tank of fuel (121 litres) Most other vehicles have a curb weight that includes only 10 litres of fuel, therefore their payload isn’t as good as they believe. Also the 4.5 ton rated tow bar is already included in the payload weight. A couple features that I really like about the RAM is the Tow/Haul mode as well as the built in break controller. By the way, due to the RAMs 7237kg GCM, it is one of a very few vehicles that can tow a 3.5 ton caravan. Enjoy your RAM and enjoy your trip. You will have an amazing time. Glenn and Nat

Hi Russell Thank you for watching our video and your kind comments. It’s so good that we can share solutions that others can use. I have tried pumping from a river and it worked ok, however just keep in mind it’s only a small pump and it doesn’t have a powerful head, therefore you need to keep the bladder as close to the water level as possible. Possibly a bigger pump my be needed if you need to pump up a fair distance. Glenn and Nat
Hi Ua - thank you for watching our video. Of cause you need to store it in your grey water tank when in National Parks and other places with similar restrictions. I suppose you just need to use common sense when in other areas. Glenn and Nat

Basically always abide to the local regulations. If the local regulations don’t allow it, then maybe choose a different location for the stop over. Glenn and Nat
Hi Chris thank you for watching our video. I normally get 11 - 12 litres per hundred when doing my daily drive and 19 - 21 litres per hundred when towing the 3.5 ton van. We averaged 21 litres per hundred for our past to road trips. One over to the Eyre Peninsula and the other down the NSW South Coast. Very happy with that Glenn and Nat
Great video. Just noticed it looks like your stabiliser legs on your van are straight instead of angled. I assume you are aware the van has more stability if the legs are angled?
Hi Mark, thank you for watching our video and your comments. I have always wound the stabiliser legs straight down, unless due to uneven ground, I will then wind them down at an angle. When I do wind down at an angle, I find it seem to strain the stabilisers. Our van can be up at 3.5 ton and it seems better to have them straight down. Also with the independent off road suspension, the van is very stable to start with. I would suggest though if the van was lighter, then an angle may be better. It would be to hear from others about the angles they use… Glenn and Nat
Hi djh4wd thank you for watching our video. Yes I love the new system. You can transfer a lot of water without lifting anything heavy. Perfect for looking after your back Glenn and Nat
Hi Newy thank you for watching our video During our latest road trip I filled up 4 times So that equals 40 jerry cans lol It certainly would have been a back breaking job, however with the bladder and pump, it was so easy. Glenn and Nat
Hi Juda - thank you for watching our video. I actually purchased the complete solution from kickass. I suppose you could source the individual components and make it yourself, however it seemed a good price for the total solution. www.kickassproducts.com.au/buy/kickass-portable-pump-pack/KAPPUMPPK12L I just noticed that they are currently on sale and they are only $169.00 Glenn and Nat
Hi Mick thank you for watching our video. Yes a very good question……”Free Water” We are so used to paying for everything we do and receive these days, to actually obtain water for free is strange. Although when you think about it, the regional councils out in Australia need to be congratulated. They have realised that by building infrastructure such as Water Fill Stations and Dump Points, they tap into the exploding multi billion dollar caravanning industry. To have a draw card such as giving away 200 litres of water, worth say $2.00, they draw numerous traveler’s to their towns, who in turn purchased fuel, groceries, and other goods and services. The time that we spent in the Bega Shire, we would have spent hundreds of dollars. We even filled our gas bottle. All of this is a massive boost to these regional towns. “Free Water” mmm maybe, but the massive flow on benefits are enormous. Pardon the Pun. Glenn and Nat
You are filling using the wrong connector. You should fill through the bottom and have a hose on the top connector to allow the air to escape from the bladder.
Hi and thank you for watching our video. I suppose that is another option to filling the bladder via the bottom connector however it may not be obvious from the video of how large the diameter of the top filling hole actually is. It is certainly large enough to not only allow the filling hose to fit, but also large enough to allow air to escape. I have always used the bladder as you would a normal water tank where you fill it via the top. Glenn and Nat
Hi OzMick Thank you for watching our video. You can purchase the Pump in a Box from the Kick Ass website www.kickassproducts.com.au/buy/kickass-portable-pump-pack/KAPPUMPPK12L I actually just called their hotline 07 3063 4211 and inquired whether they still sold them….. Great news - yes they do and they have them in stock. Enjoy Glenn and Nat
Hi there Aphony, thank you for watching our video. Yes you certainly could fill the bag from the bottom, most of the time. That is as long as the head of the fill station is high enough to have enough pressure to fill the bag. One fill station that used during the Great Aussie Lap, was a simple water tank filled via a bore pump. The tank was not much higher up than the outlet, therefore no real gravitational feed. I was fortunate to even fill the bag from the top hole let alone attempting to fill from the bottom. Glenn and Nat
Hi Ali thank you for watching our video How old is your bladder???? Is it starting to perish, or due to another reason???? Does it need to be cleaned???? I have heard where caravan water tanks can be washed out with red mix up cordial to clean them…. Would that apply to bladders as well??? Just some thoughts Glenn and Nat
This is the second time I've watched this video, to make sure I didn't forget something before I go ahead and get a pump in a box.

Glenn and Nat
Extremely helpful mate appreciate it! When offgrid power can be sorted many ways , however water this solutions the best I reckon !
Hi Kevin thank you for watching our video and your kind words. We really appreciate it.

Nice video, thanks for sharing. How do you go about drying the bladder (internal) after use ?
Hi Michael thank you for watching our video. I hope it gave you some ideas for your solution.
I basically leave it draining for a while in the sun. As we only use our tank water for washing and toilet flushing, it takes the issue away of ensuring that the bladder is properly dried.
We always use bottled water for drinking
Glenn and Nat
Hey guys, love your video - we’re definitely getting one of these (and the pump etc to go with it). We’re going up Bega way with our new van later in the year - curious to know the property your camped on - presume it was a farm-stay?

Glenn and Nat
Great video, thanks.
Hi Rebecca
Thank you for watching our video and you kind words
Glenn and Nat
Thank you. What a great and simple set up. I reckon your system will be perfect for my needs.
Do you a strainer on the inlet if pumping from a river or lake??
A well thought out and produced video.
Thanks for sharing.
Hi David thank you for watching our video and for you kind words.
I have used the pump to take water from a river. I only used the carbon filter. I would suggest that your idea of using a strainer would have been a better idea as the pump was struggling a little while trying to suck thru the filter.
Thanks for the tip, I’ll certainly try using a strainer next time.
Glenn and Nat
How long did it take to fill the bag up? I had a look at the filter and it says the max flow is .8gpm. An hour to fill seems like ages. Or does it flow faster but not filter as well? Cheers
Hi Jed thank you for watching our video.
I basically put the filter in line with the fill hose. The flow was reduced however not by much. From memory it took about 10 minutes to fill.
I assumed the filter was doing its job…..
Glenn and Nat
Great video, thanks. Where in Bunnings did you find the in line tap for the outlet hose?
Hi Shagradauyo thank you for watching our video and your kind words.
The in line tap was actually part of the pump in a box kit.
The items from Bunnings were the tap fitting, click connectors, and wing nut hose clamps.
Hope this helps
Glenn and Nat
The tap is found in the garden irrigation section. They are often called something like an inline barbed tap or fitting.
Terrific solution.
Hi and thank you for watching our video.
Yes the solution works very well.
I hope you can get some ideas for a solution for you
Glenn and Nat
Thanks for sharing.
Hi Jatin thank you for watching our video.
We hope this solution is helpful for you
Glenn and Nat
G day Glenn just purchased this after watching your easy and clear video ,,just a question do you tie it down using the points mentioned and if yes how did they go,,,cheers Phil😊
Hi Phillip that is great news that you too now have a solution to transport water back to your off-grid without straining your back.
I don’t actually tie mine down. I have ribbed marine carpet in the tub which the bladder sits on. It doesn’t move around.
Glenn and Nat
@livinglife2themaxx148 Cheers Glenn and Nat, l ended up using a ryobi transfer pump ,uses half a 5amp battery ,,has your bladder water smell/ taste ,decreased over time or is there an additive you know off , l have a guzzle H20 water treatment system for our drinking water which is great but worried it won't deal with the strong water bladder smell I've flushed it 4 times and dried it out using a blower but still a strong odour ,,,cheers Phil
Hi Phil
That is great that you have sorted out your solution.
I normally try to dry out the bladder before rolling up and packing it away.
I haven’t noticed a smell from it as yet.
To be honest, I don’t drink from my bladder/tank water. We only use the water for showering, toilet flushing and washing up.
We always purchase bottled water for drinking. It may cost a little more, however it saves a lot of fuss trying to keep your tanks clean. It also saves picking up a bug while you are out and about. It would not be a pleasant experience.
Glenn and Nat
The only limitation of the RAM is its axel weight. A SCD Performance GVM upgrade assists in removing that limitation.
By the way, due to the RAMs 7237kg GCM, it is one of a very few vehicles that can tow a 3.5 ton caravan.
Enjoy your RAM and enjoy your trip. You will have an amazing time.
Glenn and Nat
Hi guys, thanks to your advice we’re about to invest in a slight variation of the gear you have in your rig (we’re getting a 125 litre transmission hump bladder to go behind the front seats of our Disco 4). Just a question - is the pump kit you use also suitable to pull water our of a river or stream or will we need another pump / filter setup for that? Thanks & Cheers 😊
Hi Russell
Thank you for watching our video and your kind comments.
Awesome idea 👍
Hi Geoff thank you for watching our video.
It certainly makes the task of getting water very easy.
Glenn and Nat
Is that the 12lpm water pump or the smaller one from Kickass?
Hi thank you for watching our video
Yes it is the 12lpm
part no KAPPUMPPK1
Glenn and Nat
Do you have a solution for grey water tank emptying. As somewhere it is not suitable to empty the grey water tank
Hi Ua - thank you for watching our video.
Of cause you need to store it in your grey water tank when in National Parks and other places with similar restrictions.
I suppose you just need to use common sense when in other areas.
Glenn and Nat
@@livinglife2themaxx148 i mean , do you have a solution for extra grey water tank which is located at the pick-up
Not as yet, however I’m open for any suggestions.
Thoughts……
They work a treat friends of ours has one filled both vans when we free camped
Hi Alan thank you for watching our video. It certainly makes life easy.
Glenn and Nat
Thanks but how do you empty the gray water tank
Hi and thank you for watching our video.
Yes the emptying of one’s grey water tank is always a contentious topic.
It all depends where you are. As we know it varies from location to location.
Basically always abide to the local regulations. If the local regulations don’t allow it, then maybe choose a different location for the stop over.
Glenn and Nat
I am wondering for fuel economy you get traveling at 100K for a few hours.
Very happy with that
Glenn and Nat
Great video. Just noticed it looks like your stabiliser legs on your van are straight instead of angled. I assume you are aware the van has more stability if the legs are angled?
Pretty sure our instructions say straight has more strength
Hi Mark, thank you for watching our video and your comments.
I have always wound the stabiliser legs straight down, unless due to uneven ground, I will then wind them down at an angle.
When I do wind down at an angle, I find it seem to strain the stabilisers.
Our van can be up at 3.5 ton and it seems better to have them straight down. Also with the independent off road suspension, the van is very stable to start with.
I would suggest though if the van was lighter, then an angle may be better.
It would be to hear from others about the angles they use…
Glenn and Nat
How good is that 👌
Hi djh4wd thank you for watching our video.
Yes I love the new system. You can transfer a lot of water without lifting anything heavy.
Perfect for looking after your back
Glenn and Nat
Yeah that's sure better then wresting 20 litre jerry cans....10 jerry cans = one 200 bladder.🤔
Hi Newy thank you for watching our video
During our latest road trip I filled up 4 times
So that equals 40 jerry cans lol
It certainly would have been a back breaking job, however with the bladder and pump, it was so easy.
Glenn and Nat
How you make de the case pump? And the pump details please
Hi Juda - thank you for watching our video.
I actually purchased the complete solution from kickass.
I suppose you could source the individual components and make it yourself, however it seemed a good price for the total solution.

Informed video . How does the council charge to " take" their water?but cant get over your sunnies.
Hi Mick thank you for watching our video.
Yes a very good question……”Free Water”
We are so used to paying for everything we do and receive these days, to actually obtain water for free is strange.

I would bottom fill that bag instead
Hi there Aphony, thank you for watching our video.
Yes you certainly could fill the bag from the bottom, most of the time.
That is as long as the head of the fill station is high enough to have enough pressure to fill the bag.
One fill station that used during the Great Aussie Lap, was a simple water tank filled via a bore pump. The tank was not much higher up than the outlet, therefore no real gravitational feed.
I was fortunate to even fill the bag from the top hole let alone attempting to fill from the bottom.

I have one but are getting a bad taste from it.
Hi Ali thank you for watching our video
How old is your bladder????
Is it starting to perish, or due to another reason????
Does it need to be cleaned????
I have heard where caravan water tanks can be washed out with red mix up cordial to clean them….
Would that apply to bladders as well???
Just some thoughts
