  • In a perfect world 🤔Builders, Mason's and Electrician would know where the Meter sockets would land on a house that hasn't been built yet. Well we're not in that world, but I wished we were!
If your planning on building a house and have a sight plan drawn up. Talk to one of the utility companies sight engineer's to come up with a game plan on which side to bring the power in on. Then talk to the electrician about the best location for the meter socket and the load center in the residents ( before any concrete is poured in the footer.) This will save you some money and frustration to planning ahead for your next build.
I hope you liked 👍🏻 the video and thought it was helpful and informative.
Electricians, Mason's,Building inspectors and Excavation contractors please leave your comments on this debated topic. I would like for all of us to come up with better ways in communicating together about topics like this. God bless you all!

I am working with an EMC on a job. Those guys are great. You can call and they actually have someone that answers the phone. Then you get with the field guy and he is like 'Let me know when its convenient to meet'. They told me to set my backboard and let them know. They will come and run the power from the transformer on the pole underground(currently over head) to the new backboard with the meter can. It is about 100' and they said $500. Next county over is Georgia Power and that would be $3000 + and 6 weeks. EMC said they are running about 2 weeks but can come sooner if needed.

Wow, that's awesome to have a utility company that's willing to work with you. Delmar power and light used to be much better to work with before they were bought out. 😟

Delmarva north we direct bury a lot. So we don’t have that issue. I guess two reasons. One we have basements, so the footer is much deeper. And also with direct bury we would just cut the riser conduit short and lay the secondaries over the obstruction lol.

Thanks for the comment John. I understand your situation and that makes sense. So many basement on the Eastern Shore have flooded being so close to the water table here that most people won't build a basement now. I have seen a few new homes built on a hillside with garage/ basement. Have a blessed day my brother 🙏

Hey brother I just wanted to mention I don't know if you figured out the good solution to this problem by now or not I figured you may have because you're a very crafty guy just like myself very driven and skilled tradesman. I appreciate your videos and I want to share this with you. On job sites in the past on commercial sites as well as on residential sites they have allowed us to take styrofoam block outs and tape them up well with duct tape and then use strapping usually a couple of screws inside of the form for the footer with a piece of tie wire tightly bound across them to hold the block in place while they pour the concrete around it and then when the concrete settles even after the ground is filled you can just uncover it and knock the styrofoam block out of the area you need to run you need to run your pipe up the block. Hope that's helpful let me know if I can offer any more clarity if you don't understand something thanks buddy I appreciate everything you do.

Wow that power company is tough. Won’t let you do an offset on an oversized conduit?? Ridiculous imho.

Thanks for watching and commenting. I'm said to say, but no. Utility companies seem to have double standard. They won't let us do it, but they'll do it in a heartbeat.
