- My husband, Jerry and I hiked to Mt. LeConte in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park starting on the Boulevard trail and hiking down Alum Cave trail. Although the day started cloudy, it finally cleared and we got some beautiful mountain views coming down Alum Cave trail. We made a stop at The Jumpoff, but no views again for me. We hiked 16 miles on this trip.

AWSOME trek ! ❤🎉Happy Trails !!
That was awesome
At 22:07,. Same here. Thank you for letting taking a road trip trip in the fall of 2020.
Beautiful
You will hike great trails...
Hi Braids! I just did this route on Monday and stayed at the Lodge. The view from the Jumpoff was incredible and walking the Boulevard reminded me of being in an enchanted forest. I’m enjoying following your AT journey, you are truly an inspiration! 💚
Be great if you could show on a map exactly your course... there's so many trails there.
Mt. Leconte and the lodge are still on my to do list for the Smokies, so cool to see them in your vid. How awesome to get to meet members of your hiking group as well. Thanks for sharing! 🐿
I enjoyed watching your videos and I loved it when you and your husband was singing and I enjoyed the view that your husband shared and the trail that you guys were on is beautiful keep up the good work. looking forward to the next video on the Appalachian Trail.
Cool video. That was awesome that you met some new friends on the mountain. I didn’t know all that stuff was up there. Especially a store. Lol. Thanks for sharing I enjoyed it. 😃😃👍👍
Backpacking With Jason you can also buy specially designed shirts they make for each year. It’s like a collectors item. You’re welcome glad you liked it! 🙂
That guy your hiking with is a 'Hoot', so are you with the 'middle finger' lol, So good to see this trail again since 20 years ago, ty, ty.
That was very cool. I live in Ohio so nothing here like that view or trails. Your so lucky. Very nice. Jim
neo57611 i do feel very blessed to live so close to a National Park. Ohio isn’t too much of a drive lol
This is amazing!!! Thank you for making me happy! I would love to meet you some day😅
Thanks Ava!! Glad you enjoyed the video!! ☺️
Great video
Great video!😎⛰😀
Great to hear about your trip out west. Will you drive or fly? As far as pack weight goes just "let" Jerry carry everything for you. I'm sure after carrying around your stuff for awhile he will spring for a new Zpacks or HMG pack for you this Christmas. You got to know how to work him. The views turned out to be fantastic. Thanks for taking us along.
Richard Jones we’re planning to drive so it’ll definitely be an adventure! Lol thanks for the advice - I’m gonna tell him you said he should carry all my stuff! I think it’s a great idea lol!! 😂
Please do tell him what I said. You might want to remind him that he is the luckiest man alive because he is married to you!!!!
I definitely will! ☺️
The spine where the eye of the needle is located is known as Peregrine Ridge -- also Little Duck Hawk. I believe they banned off-trail hiking there because it's the habitat of the endangered peregrine falcon. I remember my friend Jenny Bennett talked about hiking that. In some places it's only about a foot wide!
kjhack yes that’s it! Oh wow thanks for the additional info too!! I read about things in the Park and then completely forget what I read lol. 🙄
How long did this hike take you from start to finish? When did you park and begin? Thanks!
Thanks for the vid; you may have said (I jumped around a bit) but would you say it is an easier hike than Alum Cave up and back down? We will be doing this in October; have done Alum twice so we wanted to do something different and I prefer this kind of higher elevation anyway.
The Boulevard isn’t easier than Alum. Alum is the easiest trail going to Mt. LeConte because of the distance. It’s roughly 10 miles of up and down on Boulevard but it’s a very nice trail and plenty of shade.
Thanks for the reply...personally I would rather do a longer hike that isn't basically a continuous climb like Alum Cave is...I'd much rather go longer and more undulating than shorter and on average steeper. I did Yosemite Falls one day and then up to the top of half dome the next day last year....Yosemite Falls was less climb and much shorter but I felt so much harder.
I can't wait till we get up there in Sept...doing Gregory Bald via Pearson's branch Friday, Lower Mt. Cammerer/AT/Low Gap loop Saturday and Boulevard to LeConte Sunday, camping in Elkmont. Should be awesome.
I’m right there with you! Those are both really great trails so you’ll have a great time!
Boulevard starts higher but is longer and has several ups and downs. Alum Cave is shorter but goes straight up. Rainbow Falls is the one that wears me out the most. That last stretch seems to go up forever over the rocks!
Great video. We are going to Mt LeConte vis Alum cave trail next month.
Hilarious! Love you guys!
Hey Gretchen! Loved this video. We are staying at the lodge next fall and plan to take Boulevard this time. What is the app you were using? That would be very handy for knowing where we are on the trail and what is ahead.
Hi Missy! I use the REI Hiking Project app. It’s free and I think works well. I love it! You can see exactly where you are on the trail at all times in AIRPLANE mode. It’s always been very accurate and I’ve been using it for almost 2 years now.
@@HikingwithBraids Thank you! We just completed the Boulevard on 10/30/19. The app and your video were very helpful. You had clouds, we had rain... ALL day. No views for us and the trail was a river. Still a good day on the trail. :)
At 4:35 hilarious!!!
😂😂 that’s our sense of humor!
My husband and I have hiked Alum to Leconte. This year we want to hike the Boulevard to leconte and then down ALum... Just as you did :) I just have a couple of questions.... We are staying in Gatlinburg... If we start at Newfound Gap and end at Alum or vice versa, is it possible to get a ride back to our car. Also, approx how long did it take you to hike this route?
It’s possible but not necessarily easy. AT Thru hikers usually can get rides during the spring and early summer so you might be able to get a ride too. I’d recommend carrying a piece of cardboard or something written in black sharpie that reads “ Hikers to Alum Cave” or “Hikers to Newfound Gap” - I’d plan to try to get a ride as early as possible and I’d try to get a ride going rather than we you get off the trail. That way you don’t have to worry about your time. I honestly can’t remember now but it is an all day hike around 14 miles. So I’d allow at least 8 hours of hiking minimum. I hope that helps! 🙂
@@HikingwithBraids thank you thank you thank you!!! I truly appreciate it. I am doing much research and can not wait to get out on the trails this spring :)
Song at the beginning of the video?
Zein I’m sorry I don’t remember which one I used off the app I edit with. 😕
Just curious do you carry any emergency equipment with you to communicate like emergency transponder called Spot
neo57611 we don’t have one yet but I would like to get one for solo backpacking trips.
Hiking with Braids awesome these are a good item to have in the pack. My sense of direction is good but if exhaustion sets in so does confusion. Lol stay hydrated Jim
Looks like I might be close to Pisgah National forest...looks nice.
If not might be a good idea...I'm going to purchase one on amazon
You were there about 1 week before our group of 24 stayed at LeConte.
❤️👍🏻
Great photo bomb - “not this chick”.
