This video made it look like Cuban Casino dancing is all about dancing in circles (Rueda de Casino). This is just one of the many styles of Cuban dancing. Cubans have been dancing and playing so called Salsa music way before the name "Salsa" or "Timba" became the norm.
For all the new people that want to start dacing salsa, here in the normal parties in latinoamerica we don’t do those turns every second. You just flow with the song doing the basics and start the turnings when the song advance and we do a littles turns. Not exagerated shit right here. I mean he explain it in the “social salsa”
Yeah but women like salsa on2 and la style more. As a guy women get over seeing our patterns and ditch their husbands to dance with us. And that’s what danced everywhere else on the planet.
@@fernandoluis53 ......trust me man they don't. They like it because it looks cool....I've seen girls dance that type of Salsa only to walk out with sore ankles and feet. I have also seen guys just walking in circles....literally just walking and turning the girl a million times. so i look at it and ask myself so when does the dancing come in?..... I am not trying to be a hater but I am explaining to you what I've seen with Salsa on 1. The turns are complicated and people lose the rhythm when dancing to Salsa.....i prefer dancing to Salsa and feel the music than doing a million turns going around in circles....
Caleño style is what I'm learning right now to deep in my relationship to my Colombian roots! You really don't have to get crazy with the footwork. You just have to know how to lead with turns and, if you can make the basic step look cool, you will stand out regardless!
Great video, I stick to the social dance salsa style because I enjoy the music more instead of looking to mechanical and robotic like the styles 1-4. To each his or her own, but I like to enjoy the music instead of putting up a show. I am about dancing to the beat of the drumbs, congas, bongos, and the clave.
All of them do what you say you look for. Some are harder and take more effort. You're free to choose which one it is for you. I prefer Cuban for pairs and Cali style for solo dancing at home or whatever.
Gracias Lucio! Finally I got it what’s the Salsa on two or on one. Many times I was asked what style I dance. My answer was “ street salsa”. I didn’t t know there is such name but I am glad I did it right. Great video !!
Hi interesting video. I start learn salsa cubana years ago, now I found mostly LA courses and I feel confused 'cause the teacher want literally "clean me up from cuban style" and is a bit frustrating....
Might not be tha best teacher. Might be better to find a teacher who respects your Cuban Style influences so that you can enjoy the class. That’s the whole point of dancing; socializing and pleasure, not tyranny.
Excellent Video man. I just taught my students this today and linked your video although I hadnt ever watched it. Its amazing how its like we were reading out of the same script.
This is very nice!! What happens if you are in a club and the guy dances one style but he ends up inviting a girl to dance who usually dances in different style - can they get the timing to match up somehow?
Nice video guy. For me salsa portoricano ist just a marketing name. Salsa new york style, L A style, cuban styke, salsa calena can be clearly differenciate from the other in tge basic steps. But just the way you moove during the music can not make a clear difference with the other dance. This will meant depending on how creative you are during the Dance, you can have a mix of everthing
What is the music video we see at 5:34 to 5:44 where people are dancing a rudea around a whole block/ building?? It looks cool but i cant find the original video for the life of me
the cross body lead is a movement in the basic where the man opens his left side to allow the lady to pass in front of him on the back break of the basic. No! They called it Salsa simply because it was a mix of an amount types of different music genre (firstly music, only after it becomes dance): Cuban, Jazz, Rock, Afro, Funky, etc...
Not sure about the origins of Cali style, but according to the sources that I've read, North American salsa did not evolve from Casino. Instead they both have common ancestor - Son Cubano.
Cuban style is the best , let’s link our favorite style RUclips video . I’ll go first with Cuban salsa ruclips.net/video/mCWw7a4GRuM/видео.html , I like it when Afro Cuban salsa dancers add rumba to it
Unfortunately there are some dances which are better than others.... And if you don't like one dance you wouldn't accept it being called the best !!!! What we can agree on though is that salsa calenia is highly impressive, whenever and wherever you dance it... be it in the streets or in a cabaret or during a demonstration or during a competition.... You’re right… but salsa styles are not just about the counting difference… bodymovement and presentation of dancers is little bit different in Cuban salsa and on1 salsa
@@terezahouskova4806 truste I know. My salsa is ugly but my casino is uglier. My Havana teacher told me that. And my other teacher called me torso because of my lack of.it. ballroom dancers dance both mambo and salsa. Mambo must break on two but the "slow" step is on four, holding one. New York salsa the break is also on two but the weight change is on one and the four is held. Salsa is danced on one or two depending on the regional trends. In judging I see most of the couples breaking on one in salsa.
Yeah he covered it pretty well. LA is the second style featured where the guy break forward on the 1 and you dance in a line or slot. The popular social style is what people dance having learned from their abuelas in backyard bbq's consisting mostly of lateral rocks with simplistic patterns.
@@AndyTargaryen I did not picked this up as a kid because there was not a lot of salsa playing in the house. How can you pick up the street style. Since learning on 2 and going to the club does not work.
Main difference is the count and linear movements. LA style the man steps back on the one count, popular style the man steps forward on the one count. LA style is more linear in the shines and figures made with a partner, the popular style doesn't follow this linear structures and it's more erratic on the floor. LA style is also more complex while the popular style is more simple with a heavy dose of Rumba moves. I live in Puerto Rico and I can tell you that the popular style is what most people dance on the streets, festivals, concerts, etc, specially older generations. The Puerto Rican style mentioned in the video is mostly what is taught in dance schools, individual instructors, etc and what younger generations have learned. I learned to dance both on1 and on2 and like the popular social style, all are good as long as you get along well with your partner.
probably referring to solo dancing or "shine" which can be done facing partner or side by side. Often multiple dancers will dance this way with a leader picking the "shine" and others following and the same shine will be repeated a few times. Performers show this side by side and often in clubs a whole group will follow the steps of those in front.
Why social salsa on 1 is called in Europe especially in Germany (in many dance schools) "New York style"? (The real New York style is something else, it is very typically salsa on 2!)
Casino is not rueda only. It’s wrong what this video says. Puerto Rican way of dancing is just copycat of the Cuban ways of dancing. At least, Colombian adds something that you don’t find in Cuba ways of dancing Cuban music.
You are completely incorrect. Go anywhere in USA, Asia or Europe. La style and on2 are the most popular. No one knows street salsa there because they haven’t learned it outside studios
