The regiment im aspiring to join will be present during the operation, and my training should be completed end of this year/first month of next year so hopefully i get to take part in this operation.
So a Calvary regiment reduced to being light infantry that says it all to the state of the British military as a whole. Dragoon regiments historically were the heavy Calvary of the British army.

But I’ll say it again pre deployment training for Mali takes place over 6 months on exercises in Kenya or sometimes Cyprus. It’s unlikely you even have an infantry battalion as your local camp and even more unlikely that it’s one of the few infantry battalions being deployed to Mali this year. The odds just aren’t in favour of your assumption. But tell me your local camp I could be wrong.
Lets hope all the expected deaths will make a difference, we have not been efficient in may years of actually helping anyone. UN has been useless. Being ex military myself, would be jumping for joy to get involved though and would want to go there. But we never seem to actually help anyone, and as we know have only made things worse for the people living there.
If it weren't for french intervention in Mali some years ago, Mali would probably be under rule of the islamists. Preventing them from that is a pretty good win if you ask me.

All infantry Battalion will rotate around Mali most likely. Although there is talks of 2 Mercian being disbanded because its a light role battalion. Maybe 1 Mercian will deploy to Mali at some point. Rifles battalions too will most likely deploy in a rotation.
