    That was so much fun, thank you ladies! :D Good old times, isn't it? :D
    My comments about Hungarian schools (in the '80s-'90s):
    No uniform, makeup and hair dyeing wasn't really allowed, but some kids still did it. Not too much makeup was acceptable in high school.
    After school clubs were mostly sports (optional, not compulsory), also some choir singing. In Hungary we have separate music schools where you can go in the afternoon or on Saturdays.
    All schools do lunch, but it's optional. You can take your packed lunch or your parents can sign you up for school lunch. However food is usually not that brilliant in the canteen, so I always preferred my mum's packed lunch.
    We didn't change shoes but it would have been better, especially in winter. The school floor was absolutely disgusting in autumn and winter, when we walked around in muddy shoes. We didn't clean the school, there were cleaners who did the job. However, once in a year we did a deep cleaning, usually near the end of the academic year.
    My school didn't have a swimming pool but my parents took me to another school for swimming lessons. Only posh schools had swimming pools. :D

    I love listening to casual conversations with Japanese subs, it's so great! Makes it much easier for me to look up words I don't know outright, even if I think I have it through context. Also the subject matter was great! Re: hair dyeing, I had never heard of certifying hair color before, but I feel like I've heard that some schools would force kids w/ naturally brown hair to dye it black, do you know if that's true? Thanks again for the content, it was awesome to listen to a conversation about Japanese school culture I'm mostly familiar w/ from anime and movies XD

    Awesome podcast! Listening to a real conversation adds depth to mastering the Japanese language as I start to hear new words I never heard of. It’s also great way to learn the common terms of responding in a Japanese conversation! Thank you both for making it more fun and less daunting to continue learning the beautiful japanese language. You go girls !!

  • @ceciler.5671
    @ceciler.5671 2 года назад +12

    Thank you Miku Sensei for the video. You asked for some comments about what is different in other countries, so here goes:
    Schools in France, Germany and USA serve lunches at all grades levels. However, in the US, if your kids just don't like the school food or have special dietary needs (medical or religious) they can bring their own boxed lunch instead. In France lunch breaks are long enough for some kids to go home for a family lunch if they live close enough, then return for afternoon classes.
    Middle schools and high schools do have club activities after class for kids who are interested. There is not a lot of pressure, though, if kids aren't interested. Dress codes vary a lot by school district and can be very strict in some places and less so in others.
    Some schools do ban unnatural hair colors (e.g. blue or pink) but that's rare. Because the population is more diverse ethnically, no one bothers finding out if your hair color is natural to you, so long as it could be natural. Also parents would think the school may be racially prejudiced if it favored a color over another.
    Also, some schools try to punish girls who wear short skirts "because it distracts boys from studying". Which is nonsense. The very existence of girls is enough to distract teenage boys, no matter what they are wearing. It's not women's job to help men control their own impulses, and it's wrong to teach boys that if they misbehave it's somehow girls' fault for tempting them. So there is more and more backlash against that kind of rule.

      as a germam i can say that most schools don`t serve lunch or have asspeachly long luchbrakes. this might be changing at least vor primary schools. do to system change. as for dresscode as far as I know there is non. at least not in public school. in my school atleast we had a lot of goths and punks emus hippis and hippsters which was all fine.

    Sometimes you hit a point when you think that it's just impossible to learn Japanese. I have quit several times and stopped learning for a very long time. However when you can get the gist of a conversation it does put a smile on your face. As a very casual student you might think that I have no interest in Japanese , but you are wrong. The fact is I have no interest in old fashioned methods and especially apps that claim to teach you while at the same time as trying to sell you something . These two ladies have nailed it, to learn Japanese you need to live and breathe Japanese.

    • @JTSoftware
      @JTSoftware 2 года назад +1

      For the best Language Reactor experience, it would be great to have real English subtitles, as the auto-subs are terrible. It would also be great to ditch the hard subs, which make it hard to read the Language Reactor or soft subs. I almost never find hard subs useful, as you can't copy words to look them up, nor use a reader helper like Rikaikun. Thanks, Miku, for your wonderful content. I'm on my second pass through your full podcast package, which has been an immense help.

    In Brazil, girls can wear make-up and dye their hair as they want. Piercings are also allowed, and some schools don't ever have uniform clothing as a rule. 絶対に厳しいじゃない😅🥶
    We also call some of our teachers by their first name, and teachers sometimes get disrespected because of politics or students argue with teachers. I don't like it much...
    But a few schools are ok, at least.

    Excellent conversations! In case of Nepal, there are two types of schools viz complete governmental and private boarding schools. Rules are almost similar however private boarding schools are strict regarding rules comparing to government ones. Long hair for boys, coloring hair for both girls and boys, cosmetics for both is strictly prohibited. Skirts of girls should at least be longer below knees. Generally, hair cut is not preferred for girls.

    In answer to whether high school kids can have makeup (sorry I can understand Japanese well but can't write well😂). It depends on the school but I think girls can have some makeup. I used to put sparkly makeup on my eyelids when I was at highschool (this was in about 2001-2002 though 😆). Nowadays I think some girls are very serious about their makeup (like a full face of makeup!) And some aren't. So we are allowed it though some strict, private schools might now allow it. ビデオをありがとうございます♪。楽しく拝見させて頂きました。
    自己紹介します。ヨーロッパのオーストリアの者です。50代の男性です。日本人と結婚しています。12年間日本の企業で働いていました。翻訳がほとんどでした。
    娘はハーフで日本で学校に行っていました。金髪でしたが、多分妻のサインをもらったと思います。テニス部に行っていました。キャップをするのは火曜日だけだと先生に言われたそうですので、びっくりしました。娘は真っ赤な顔をして帰って来たんですね。納得いかなかったですので、その先生に電話して、他の日もキャップをするようお願いしました。少し怒っていたかもしれません。その話しをつい最近娘としましたが、娘は電話の後が変な雰囲気になったと言いました。
    私が高校生だった頃、お掃除は専門スタフがやっていました。日本の制度の方が良いと思います。色々学べるので、ヨーロッパでも導入した方が良いと思います。
    高等学校は私服でした。お金持ちの子は良いお洋服を着るので、しっとしました。その点で、制服は良いと思います。
    それでは、次のビデオを楽しみにしています。

    i find it annoying how i can understand what they say most of the time but there's some words i don't know which ruins the entirety of the message. if i was to jump into the conversation i wouldn't be fast enough to put words together. i think im turning out to be one of those people that understand Japanese but can't speak it. :(

      I'm uploading a video about it pretty soon💓 I hope it will help! Believe me, I was the same with English at first. But I started to do something and my English significantly improved!

    Japanese is really hard to learn...... I get confused sometimes whenever the hiragana is repeated over again. Like whenever "すす" is present, do i say "su-su" or say "ssu" instead?
    I love learning, but the small nuances of the language are what make it truly difficult.

    • @BanBanChi
      @BanBanChi 2 года назад

      In that case it's "su-su" or "sus" depending on where in Japan the speaker is from.

      We don't usually pronounce "U" strongly, So it sounds like SuSki :) It's the same when you say Arigatougozaimasu this last U doesn't have to be so strong!

    What's the difference between "kudasai" and "onagaishimasu"?(I hope that's the correct spelling) Please take a short for this Sayaka🙏

    • @onelapvideo
      @onelapvideo Год назад

      it is nearly correct - Onegaishimasu - which is more formal than Kudasai. The way I understand it, you would use the former when talking to a superior or an equal in a formal setting, but kudasai in a more everyday situation (like at a resturant, or with friends or equals at work) - but I welcome anyone more versed in the nuance of the language to clarify when one would be more appropriate than the other

    最近、女子学生は化粧して学校に行っていることは普通になりました。パンデミックの前はだめだったけど、禁止されていました。たぶん、中学生、高校生の精神的な健康は大変になったので、今許すことになったかなと思います。

    Maybe the WORST out of hundreds of Japanese conversations I have seen. I have one of the latest Apple 携帯電話. They said to push the subtitle button so to read it in Japanese. But in fact you can’t. That was THEIR responsibility to set that up.
    So she comes across as deceptive. I suspect though there was a miscommunication here. And I am so completely in love with the Japanese language that I will gladly pay the $7/ month for assistance in learning.

      Yes you can press the subtitle button and see the Japanese subtitles:)
      If you think it’s the worst, you’re welcome to stop the subscription:)
