Well, it looks like they managed to put the issues in the wrong order too. Don't they get bonus points for that? #5-6 take place after #8. #7 continues *directly* from the end of #4. There’s a page from issue 2 that’s missing all dialogue. I’ve been hoping someone could post a video or picture of the omni page and the floppy or tpb page so I can see just what is missing.
@@PizzaParty83 It's at the 6:16 mark of Omar's video above (and yes, I appreciate the irony of that time mark :)). I've also noticed a smaller omission in one panel two pages earlier where Superman's cape doesn't include the Superman symbol. Everything else seems fine on that page, but there's possibly errors in other other pages.
Another good looking omni I'll pick up. Though it is weird to me that the book collects Action Comics but is named Superman. Kinda wish the stuck with the real name but not a big deal. Here's hoping this sells well and DC does omnis for the full New52 Action Comics run. I also like that it is a thinner omni. I know you like them "thicker than a snickers" but I find the thinner omnis a bit easier to read when sitting back on my couch. Also I agree with your "interesting move comment" about the cover. Then bleeding cool did an article on it and then DC decided to make a recall. That’s cause and effect :) I’ll probably keep my copy. Not the biggest deal to me for just one page.
@@NearMintCondition i also noticed the same issue with Green Lantern by Geoff Johns book 3 in the spread page where Hal chains up Professor Zoom (Hunter Zolomon), there should be monologue boxes of Hal explaining that he misses the X-Files and why Earth gets all the attention from evil beings in the GL by Johns book 3, that isn't there
Hey Omar, was your copy also missing text from the second issue? I'm worried about forking out cash for this and for there to be some serious printing errors.
I've heard some less than great things about this Omnibus. Reviews I've seen include missing word bubbles on one page in issue 2, it’s not printed in the proper reading order per Grant Morrison. Issues four and five were meant to be read after issue eight which is how they were collected in the trades. For $50 that's kind of a deal killer. I hope DC fixes this. Writer name, page numbers, word bubbles are must fix.
@@NearMintCondition thoughts on later resale value for unopen misprint vs dismember the misprint and replace with non-misprint for later resale(later meaning yrs from now) / note: dcbs is allowing a photo of the removed cover/paper with name/order # for replacement vs mailing back cover
I'll get myself a copy but it baffles me that this was printed before any Superman by Geoff Johns omni. Or the Batwoman big book that got pushed over several months from now. DC needs some serious improvement.
Not really but that may be because despite being a longtime Superman fan (Post Crisis) I didn't really enjoy Morrisons run. But your sensibilities may differ from mine so this is just my personal opinion. Byrnes superman would be a good Jumping on point If I were to be objective.
I am not sure others would agree with me but if I had to pick one, I'd recommend All Star Superman also by Morrison as a starting point. If you don't mind big books, I would recommend the Absolute All Star Superman. I am no Morrison fan but All star Superman is a solid run and you can read it without any knowledge of Superman.
The Man of Steel standard sized hardcovers by John Byrne would be a good start. Though if you want more modern art, the Tomasi and Gleason run during Rebirth would also be good. There’s deluxe editions that collect everything, but later on, there’s going to be an omnibus with just the Tomasi/Gleason stuff. Other than those, if those are a bit expensive and you just want some random fun stories, the trade paperback called The Power Within was always a good read, imo, but that may just be me.
Adding to what the others said, this was indeed intended as the new (2011 new) starting point for the character. Trying to start with Rebirth would be confusing because you need too go back to several new 52 stories to understand what's goimg on.
The DC QC on these omnibus editions are just atrocious. The misspelling of the writers last name when it’s repeated throughout the printed material is just peak sloppiness. Then there’s the table of contents but no page numbers. That’s pathetic but really funny actually. Embarrassed for this long standing comics company.
@@NearMintCondition is Justice league New 52 omnibus best way to catch up on the DC universe as a starting point? I’ve always read marvel besides the Batman floppy’s that I want to catch up. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing more Superman Omnibus's as it would be fantastic, but maybe there could have titled this Omnibus-"Superman: Parallel Universere's" just to prevent some confusion about the various changes to the actual Superman character and the actual storylines themselves-Im just saying......
FYI, Chris at comicreleases.com just mentioned on Jess’s March must-have releases episode yesterday that this edition contains a misprint page missing all of the dialogue. (If I find out which I’ll follow up with the info.)
Rich has since picked it up here bleedingcool.com/comics/sholly-fisch-missing-words-grant-morrison-superman-omnibus/ and commenter notes that Supes' cape is misprinted in at least one panel.
No page numbers on the actual pages. So you count to get to the issue at page 487? 😂 Bookmarks won't help if you're looking for a specific issue within the book.
Its a great looking omnibus but DC is just flabbergasting in terms of their carelessness putting together such premium collected editions: Misspelling Sholly Fisch's name, having a table of contents but no page number, and really - the omnibus should be called Superman: Action Comics by Grant Morrison and Sholly Fisch. A good chunk of the content is written by Fisch (and not Finch, lmao). Seems like an easy skip and I'll stick to the three standard sized HCs that at least don't have blunders like this. Thank God they didn't mess up the Morrison Batman omnibus like this. Morrison, Fisch, Morales and the other creators involved deserve better for such a radical and creative reimagining of Superman that harkens back to his Golden Age roots in a modern setting.

in the spread page where Hal chains up Professor Zoom (Hunter Zolomon), there should be monologue boxes of Hal explaining that he misses the X-Files and why Earth gets all the attention from evil beings
in the GL by Johns book 3, that isn't there
Hey Omar, was your copy also missing text from the second issue? I'm worried about forking out cash for this and for there to be some serious printing errors.
It got reprinted
I've heard some less than great things about this Omnibus. Reviews I've seen include missing word bubbles on one page in issue 2, it’s not printed in the proper reading order per Grant Morrison. Issues four and five were meant to be read after issue eight which is how they were collected in the trades.
For $50 that's kind of a deal killer. I hope DC fixes this. Writer name, page numbers, word bubbles are must fix.
Is this worth reading even though it’s technically not the Superman in rebirth continuity?
Yes. Don't let that stop you.
I wish the Sideways Annual Morrison wrote in this annual. He put this Superman in a pocket universe to save him from Geoff Johns touching him.
Just read the news letter from IST to cut the cover off of this omni because of misprints to get a replacement in June
I feel so weird doing that.
Never read Superman, would y’all recommend it as a starting point?
2:04 "Our red sun"? Don't you mean yellow sun?
Good review, love your analysis! I remember trying to read this run, and it was meh. Still just waiting on that Tomasi Gleason Omni........
I think that’s the word I would use to describe it.
What’s the best Superman omnibus for a read?
Superman by Tomasi coming out soon.
@@NearMintCondition is Justice league New 52 omnibus best way to catch up on the DC universe as a starting point? I’ve always read marvel besides the Batman floppy’s that I want to catch up. I’m for sure grabbing the Tomasi Omni but would you suggest the JL new 52 as a starting point for DC universe
Why in the world dc added an index to a book without number?
I have a Spider-Man Omnibus that, according to the dust jacket, was drawn by Steve Dikto.
I'm wondering which one you have.
It’s the first one with all the Ditko material, first printing.
I've read a lot of Superman and I think this is the best outside of All-Star
I’m torn. I love All Star Superman but I’m not sure about this. I’ll probably...pick this up. Thanks for the review Ole’ Uncanny One!
I see what you mean.
It does, but not all copies, sadly. Hit and miss.....DC.
@@NearMintCondition Thank you, that’s the first I’ve heard that it isn’t every copy. Where did you hear it from?
@@nextimaginaut A couple of my viewers heard about this and emailed me.
@@NearMintCondition Right on, and thank you again for following up.
I just heard there is a page with missing dialogue. Is this true
Page 8 of issue 2. I just checked. I honestly didn't notice when doing the overview as I wasn't rereading the book. Just the first issue.
Will there be another omnibus that collects the remaining issues you think?
It depends on the sales
No page numbers on the actual pages. So you count to get to the issue at page 487? 😂 Bookmarks won't help if you're looking for a specific issue within the book.
They do have the issue titles... so although page numbers would be great, it isn't that hard to find specific issues
Morrison, Fisch, Morales and the other creators involved deserve better for such a radical and creative reimagining of Superman that harkens back to his Golden Age roots in a modern setting.
great overview!
Is this already OOP? I can't find it anywhere.
It was recalled and will be back.
@@NearMintCondition oh nice!
