Dave Chappelle is, in my opinion, the greatest American comedian ever for his ability to incorporate real issues affecting America, & not only make you laugh hysterically, but leave you pondering as well as reflecting. In the end you learn just as much as you laugh.

They said she probably didn’t know she was kidnapped 8 miles away from her house. If you’re 15 and you don’t recognize where you’re at only 8 miles from your house you have to be one of the most socially and geographically unaware humans to ever exist in my opinion. Also they said she may have been aware of the consequences if she left. What’s more threatening? Staying in the place you where you were kidnapped or attempting to run way? The latter clearly makes more sense because if they wanted to kill her they would’ve done it already, they’d kidnapped you obviously to do something to you so even if they did find out you were gone and came after her they wouldn’t try to kill her anyway because that would have defeated the whole point of kidnapping her in the first place. Great reaction but also those couples of points they pointed out didn’t appear to make as much sense

Also , the age of consent in America is I believe to be 18. Although you can be prosecuted as an adult at the age of 13 and up in most states. It really depends on the severity of the crime and whether the prosecutor feels it should be juvenile court or due to the severity of the crime (like murder) to "wave" it to adult court. In the US if you are under 18 you can't be sentenced to life without parole without having a special hearing first. I do know that in Kentucky for instance the age of consent is 16, so it can be different in each state

‘The age of consent’ differs depending on what is being consented to - in all states. BTW, the term is ‘waived’, not ‘waved’. A juvenile court judge can ‘waive jurisdiction’ to criminal court for certain offenses that are named in a state’s ‘waiver statute’ in its juvenile code.

Here's something to consider: when I was seventeen and my friends were sixteen and all white, we all burned down a portable toilet in the school yard. It was dumb.
My family had money for an attorney. Theirs didn't. I, being older, was charged as a juvenile and they as adults, even though I was the one who actually lit it.
The legal system is not fair. One of those same friends was in my car and I was dropping him off. As he got out and began walking to his door, a cop pulled up behind me. They told him to walk backwards to them. He asked if he could just go home, but complied. They tackled him and sprayed him with pepper spray (violation of Nuremberg code) and arrested him for literally nothing.
Meanwhile I had an oz of cannabis and numerous pipes in my car, and got to drive away with no charges.
Not only were his charges not dropped, but he was convicted even though I tried to testify that he literally did everything they asked.
He didn't even have any weed on him at all and he didn't resist. I don't like him at all, but that's repugnant and I feel really bad for him.

Also he was released early and continued committing crimes. Lionel tate
I dont know, some people just have this evil inside Them. Same cases with 7 year old kid who brutally stabbed his playmate, and I think it was an 10 year old kid who beat his younger brother with a baseball bat.

This same issue is reflected across the US culture again, right now. Not about "is 15 old enough to be expected to act like an adult" but "is 18 (the current age of majority) old enough to be expected to be responsible with a firearm?" And this isn't the only disconnect in the US as far as age goes, either. We can draft 18 year olds to fight in a world war, but deny them the right to buy alcohol until 21. Meanwhile, age 18 is the *oldest* point at which a citizen can be denied a vote, with some jurisdictions that allow as young as 16 year olds to vote in some local elections. All these ages are legal compromises, between groups that fundamentally believe that the age of majority should be higher, and those that think it should be lower; but as Dave points out, these are inconsistent across both states and whatever legal question is being discussed.

Careful, don't want you making any life-altering mistakes. Age of consent in the US can be 16, 17, or 18 depending on the state. You can go to prison for 30 years or more as a convicted pedophile for sexual relations with a girl who is 17 years 11 months and 30 days old in one state but drive less than a mile into another state and legally have sex with a 16-year-old girl. Our laws about what age is old enough to be responsible are all over the charts. An 18-year-old is responsible enough to sign a contract with the government and fight in wars for our country, handle firearms, and risk their lives for 4 years before they're legally able to be old enough to buy a beer or cigarettes at age 21. And now the government wants to push the legal age of tobacco and alcohol even higher.... insane.

So we are raising our teens to be mature and responsible, and be in good practice for when they are adults.

Well if you take 10,000 15 year olds there's going to be a huge difference in maturity levels. One 15 year old could be obsessed with comics while the other is studying to walk in the footsteps of their favorite role model. One could be still be giving wedgies while the other is running for class president. The polarization of maturity level is huuuuge at 15. You can't just look at the top 5% of them who are well beyond their years and just assume the rest of that age group only has a + or - two degree in mental comparativeness.
If you take a study of 10,000 25 year olds...yeah you're going to most likely have a vastly more narrow margine of difference. THAT is the point that's considered when society deems what age should a person be considered an adult.
Should they relook at this? Yes. Imo 18 isn't old enough anymore. 200 years ago an 18 year old had to deal with a lot more responsibility than an 18 year of today. I think adult status should really be risen to the age of 23 - 25. But I suppose the problem is a womans biological clock. Mother nature doens't have the time to stand around and wait for todays overly protected generations to get their shit together and realize they're about to have priorities to be responsible for.

In the US there have been children of all races that have committed horrible crimes and were tried as adults, in the past there were also kids that received the death penalty! On another note, Dave Chappelle is funny though..

The joke is it is always in the eye's of the people who are going to judge. A woman can have an abortion at 3 weeks no one cares. 2 woman fight and one miss carrys her 3 week pregnantcy. And their are charges of murder and the news will cry about the loss of the baby.

You haven’t really thought that one through too well. It’s not up to someone else to decide whether or not a woman’s pregnancy is terminated.

At 15yo, you're kinda screwed, too old for somethings but not old enough for other things you want to do.
The one bright side is that you can get a learner's permit for driving in many states.... But the bad thing about that is mom or dad have to be with you.
It stinks as my youngest (now 19) used to say.

In the current era, us Westerners are very illogical when it comes to age and consent. This new trend started a few decades ago where we get extremely uncomfortable discussing it because its become so easy to be labeled as a pervert just for bringing it up in our culture. As a result, perfectly sensible things are illegal and nobody is bold enough to mention it publicly.

I think Dave Chappelle is funny but please don't get your facts from a comedy bit. Elizabeth Smart was 14 yrs old, taken by knife point up into the mountains, shackled to a tree with a metal cable and raped multiple times a day. She was forced to drink alcohol and take drugs to keep her weak and compliant and told if she tried to escape, they would kill her family. She was taken from Utah to California (not 8 miles away on the same bus route) and only once coming back to Utah was she recognized and rescued. Kinda changes your point of view if you know what she actually went through.

The discrepancy is real, but it's not necessarily due to race. He compared two completely different situations and uses logical fallacy to correlate them, and that's dishonest.
He's comparing the treatment of a victim to the treatment of a taker of life. Some (myself included) could argue that the boy was indeed a victim, as well, but that's an emotional response. He is, for all intents and purposes, a taker of life in that instance.
Those two can't be compared in regards to outcome of treatment.
An adult who got kidnapped like either of those kids would have been treated the same way, and an adult who piledrove his friend and killed him would get life.
So it's not age or race when it comes to those two examples.
I do agree with his premise. A fifteen year old is definitely capable of knowing whether or not she wants someone to piss on her.

    Lol. Adult humor for sure.
15 yr old children can vary in their maturity levels. The boy shouldn't have gotten life for mimicking a wrestling move
