  • Working on Axel and double jumps (Toe Loop, Salchow, Loop and Flip) and improving my spins. This is the second part of my progress and journey as a newcomer to figure skating as an adult. It has been between two and three years of progression and a timeline full of new achievements. My jump progression has always been better than my spin progression, but the spins are slowly catching up as I get to harder jumps like double Axel and triple Salchow.
    Regular off ice training helped my jump rotation a lot. Stay tuned for an off ice video back from April.

    omg you're absolutely amazing!! progressing that much that quickly, in just a few short years you could be doing triples and maybe even quads I'm sure! at my rink we- or moreso Im- not allowed to do jumps anymore because having our blade above our knee is apparently a safety hazard even when no one else is on the ice 🥲 i wish i could practice the rest of my singles. haven't gotten lessons yet but besides jumps i managed to learn my scratch forward and back, then forward layback and forward sit spin, but I don't think I can do much more without lessons now lol. watching this video made me that much more determined to make it some day, its so inspiring! thank you for sharing

      @@MartinJaehnSkating Thanks!!! It honestly depends, if it’s an axel, double salchow, double toe, or double loop, I prefer doing double loops off of them. However, if its a double flip or lutz I prefer doing double toes off of them!

    Not bad at all. You're making excellent progress. Clearly you prefer jumping over any other skill 😂
    My advice, jump from your rib cage and keep stretching even through the landing. I noticed in all your jumps you relax your core every time which makes you bend at the waist when you land.

    • @MartinJaehnSkating
      @MartinJaehnSkating  3 года назад +1

      Yep, that's correct :D however, I've been working a lot on spins lately. The bending at the waist also became less of an issue (well done noticing that!). You can see both in my latest video: ruclips.net/video/14RVXHSvlj0/видео.html

    How many times a week do you practice on and off ice ?

    • @MartinJaehnSkating
      @MartinJaehnSkating  3 года назад +5

      4 times a week on ice (about 8 hours in total) during the summer and 5 times a week (about 12 hours in total) during the season.
      I usually just do some off ice as warmup for my on ice sessions, so that would be around 15 minutes each time. I guess that makes it to around 1 hour per week. Sometimes, especially in summer, I do extra off ice sessions which are around 45-60 minutes.
      I'm also stretching about 15-30 minutes every day and I occasionally do some strength training.

    This is your 2 years progression of axel and other double jumps right? You didn't start 2 years ago and already learnt double axel? I started 2 weeks ago and got my first figure skates last saturday and finally the ice rinks are open for public in Bern! But first I have to learn the basics in the right way. In which city do you live and do you speak (Swiss) German?

    How do you suggest getting started? I’m 16 and figure skating has always interested me, but I’m not even sure where to start learning

    • @JustinPageSlayer
      @JustinPageSlayer 3 года назад +1

      Hey, I'm 16 and taking up artistic skating (figure skating but on wheels)! If you have a rink near you, it'll definitely have a learn to skate program, if you're Canadian it'll probably be called Can Skate but in America and Australia it's usually called Learn To Skate. Just talk to your rink and they'll tell you all about it. Once you've mastered your balance, mowhawk turns, two foot spins, two foot jumps, spread eagle etc you can talk to your rink and see if they have group figure skating lessons, or private lessons if you can afford it. I take artistic skating because the nearest ice rink is an hour and 40 minutes away, GOOD LUCK! If you wanna talk further about the process, just reply and I can answer any questions you have to the best of my ability as I too am just starting out. As a beginner myself, I know its scary to start, but starting is the only way to actually achieve anything

    • @MartinJaehnSkating
      @MartinJaehnSkating  3 года назад +1

      I was still kinda thinking about this question, but Justin answered that really well. Best way is probably to just talk to your closest rink if they have any learn to skate programs or group lessons. I personally started by taking private lessons and practicing in public sessions. As time went on, I joined group lessons while maintaining my private lessons and went to freestyle sessions to practice instead of public sessions.
