Nice
Im agreeing with Kenny. Mako was clearly uncomfortable when Asami kissed him. He was just trying to be nice to somebody who has done so much for him and his brother in the past.
I’m very late to the party, but yeah I agree. He was a bit weirded out by it. I think he was throwing himself into proving his hunch and is just thinking irrationally after the breakup. Helping asami is just something he wanted to do. He didn’t plan on this.
I also just vehemently disagree with Montana’s stance about Asami being somehow off limits for Mako. Like this isn’t middle school. If people like each other, let them be together. If you’re broken up with someone, you don’t control their life or who they can be with. And you don’t control your friends lives and who they can be with. If you’re jealous then obviously you didn’t want to break up in the first place. But the Korra-Mako breakup was mutual and honestly necessary. I see no reason why they can’t both date whoever makes them happy. I think they both deserve that. The controlling ex girlfriend energy isn’t a good look.
I agree with Kenny on his POV about Mako. Honestly this season was the beginning of Mako’s redemption arc for me (I legit despised him on season 1). His breakup with Korra makes complete sense because they were both toxic to each other (and imo Korra was a lot more over the line than Mako sometimes) and this episode Asami kissed him and he clearly felt uncomfy. I hope this was also the beginning of Mako’s redemption on Kenny’s eyes, but Montana will hopefully come around during season 3.
I honestly don't know why that hate him, they think the avatar is over everyone and uses that as a excuse for her to know everything, when it has never been that way.
@@jylgeekd2498 I do understand them tho because I also hated Mako on my first viewing. It’s just that watching them react to Korra is like my 4th time watching the show and now I can see that all 3 parts of the triangle (Korra, Mako and Asami) were in the wrong at some point

Some of the best episodes in the franchise
Mako isn't to be blamed for being kissed by Asami, I completely agree with Kenny. Mako couldn't have seen that kiss coming. SHE kissed him, not the other way around.
they keep blaming mako for when people kiss him
Montanna: Could be my anxiety gurlfriend thing
Kenny: *nervous laughter*
Today's episode is about: the concept of war profiteering
Gotta teach the kids about the military-industrial complex.
Oh yeah priorities
Kenny was such a bolin for him to not recognise the tension between mako and asami
Even Bolin does in the next episode💀
Who's gonna fight for friends and freedom?
Nuktuk.
He's the biggest, baddest, bendingest man I know.
Who protects the icy tundra?
Nuktuk.
Battling Northies out there in the snow.
When Unalaq starts trouble, he'll punch him in the mouth.
He's Nuktuk, the hero of the South.
The kiss was 100% Asami, I know it's easy to blame Mako for everything but he literally just stands there and even acts uncomfortable after, of course he says that he's not giving up on her, she's his ex girlfriend and he still cares about her
Whole situation could have been avoided if he said “I’m not giving up on a friend” 🥲

@@emersonperez6125 Ginger didn't pull away either. I guess she half asked for it eh. Premium victim blaming.
@@terencebc okay karen, nobody was even talking about Ginger
I honestly agree with Kenny. Mako seemed uncomfortable when Asami kissed him, and tried to change the subject.
Mako was so ready to help Asami because he’s trying to prove he can be an effective detective, and following his instincts to try and do what’s right.
His relationship with Korra always functioned better as friends and they both honestly needed to focus on different things to grow as people. Definitely not the best but also not the worst
Their argument about Asami and Mako has WE WERE ON A BREAK energy
Mako didn’t kiss her back. He was still because he was shocked and confused.
I’m also excited that you guys are about to watch the backstory of the Avatar!!! Can’t wait
Well he should of pushed her back, not continue to kiss her. Sorry Mako is a piece of crap
@@watsupdoc Freezing up like that is a common reaction in that kind of situation, especially if it's someone you're close with. you don't reciprocate because it makes you uncomfortable but you don't pull back because you don't want to hurt their feelings. so you just stand there. Don't get me wrong, Mako's a dickhead, but i don't think he did anything wrong in that moment.
@@watsupdoc he is a human, humans take time to process things ,he was taken by surprise so he froze up like any human would ,soo he could not have pushed her off when he was in shock
@@watsupdoc So you would blame Ginger for not pushing Bolin out of his sexual agression? Because that's a one to one comparison. Asami kissed him without his consent. Unless you wanna do some victim blaming, side with Mako on this one and STFU.
Not "driver's license" playing in the background while mako's looking at an old pic of him and korra😭
I starting dying of laughter 😂
PLS that was so funny 😭😭😭
*_Kenny: Mako not too bad Counter: +2_*
- Asami leaned into / initiated the kiss - closed her eyes.
- Mako was surprised and stayed still - kept his eyes open.
I have to agree, Mako did okay (for this episode at least).
The scene when Bolin kisses Ginger is so uncomfortable. Atleast the fandom always hated that scene when it aired in 2013 and we hate it now. The lack of consent... far too much
@@controlman7490 more like sexual harassment. But people’s reaction to his actions is completely justified because kissing someone without consent is not okay.
@@controlman7490 the fact that you're trying to justify actual non consensual sexual harassment makes it seems like you approve of that. This is a big deal, kissing someone without their consent is wrong, remove your rose tinted glasses for Bolin

Montana: You just aren’t getting any bad vibes this whole EPISODE
LMAOO DAMNNNN MONTANA 😂
Kenny pointed something interesting. Mako really was more up to help Asami than help Korra.
I think people blame Mako for the love triangle mess because he just don't know what he wanted, since book 1 he is confuse over stuff and feelings. And different from Korra and Asami, who express their feelings and thoughts a lot, he hide them
But personally I think Mako, Asami and Korra where just vulnerable when it comes to feelings and ended up confusing things and they all got messy
Great way of putting it. I’d also like to add that, with mako and korra, mako knew korra was wrong about who attacked the cultural center and that sending the troops was the wrong idea. So he was really doing the right thing there
@@aaronreed2424 i agree but he should have shown more empathy and more care more about it. I know that Korra was being difficult and all but still.
People in a relationship have to have patience and Mako and Korra's didn't have any with each other
@@alexlannister950 Mako did try to be patient with her, but she was constantly rebuffing him and accusing him of taking sides/working against her/etc. I'd get sick of that too.

@@cheeseburger442 I hope we are thinking of the same one 😂
“He incites rebellions between the water tribes and he’s a generally shady dude, but you never suspect him because of his goofy exterior.”
Mako has no been inconsistent at all. He didn’t betray the avatar on a whim. He did it because he believed she was wrong about who attacked them. She very quickly jumped to conclusions and blamed the north. Mako didn’t believe it so he had to trust his gut and stop her from doing something wrong.
And this time while yes he messed up, he did it doing what he believed was right.
THANK U!
sure, but rather than talk to her about it, he went behind her back. also, like a week after korra and him break up, he gets back with asami. also, (SPOILERS) he doesn't tell korra about it when she looses her memory until she remembers herself. not to say asami's not in the wrong too. she shouldn't have kissed him.
@@itilosi9929 If Mako talked to her she would not listen and she would get hella mad and probably do it anyway lol
@@adriaandejager8877 probably but he didn't even try. I really dislike season 2 of korra. I hate the love triangle in s1 and s2 but s1 has emon to offset the terrible and s2 doesn't have a good villain. I really hate love triangles, they're so stupid.
@@itilosi9929 THANK YOU! i hate how a week after korra and him break up he just dates asami quickly. like even bolin wasn’t happy that they started dating right away ( i agree that him and asami were both in the wrong during this episode though). also the fact he was dating korra when he got with asami for the second time was wrong, in my opinion he could’ve pulled korra to the side to tell her about their break up instead of keeping it a secret until she remembered on her own.
i’m telling you.... us girls know when the vibe is off and people are getting closer, montana is our spokesperson
Montana has some serious facial journeys this episode and I loved every second of it.
asami started that kiss, mako barely kissed her back and clearly felt awkward afterwards. idk why mako is an easy character to villanize for a lot of people, the hate he gets is weird imo. he's done nothing but trust his instincts all season so far, and the only thing i disagree with him on so far in the season was trusting the triads. like, why are we mad that he didn't want Korra to blindly incite a civil war?? why can't we understand the perspectives of all the characters and just trust that, at the end, their individual actions will lead to the ideal resolution
To be fair, It was Asami who kissed Mako first, but everyone always blames Mako for everything!
Residue from his mess in S1 I guess.
It's like how when Manga/Anime protagonists slip and fall onto a girl's chest or walk in on someone changing and get bludgeoned half to death.
Like. It was an accident! He did not intend on doing it! Why is everyone okay with him being punched silly.
I love the twist in the episode, season 2 is amazing
“Also there was already a Twelve-Toed Ping on the south side.”
Underrated joke.
It's pretty cool to consider that with animation every single thing about the way two characters interact is very deliberate (without being overt) and Montana picking up on some chemistry and Kenny being absolutely confused about it means that the animators did amazing with adding a hint of weird chemistry in there. So cool! Montana genius counter remains unmatched!
I am *certain* that within five years of the introduction of Varrick's 'Movers', the Ember Island Players become a movie production company.
Their movies are terrible, but extremely successful.
I always had a theory that if Nick didn't screw this series around and just let Bryke do their thing like they did with ATLA, we would've had a proper recap episode called "Ember Island Movers".
tell me why i snorted when you guys edited driver's license over the photo scene HAHAHAHAHHAHA
Mako didn’t kiss Asami, he had no intention on kissing her, he just wanted to protect her because he cares about her 🥺 Asami was the one who misunderstood the situation
The eyebrow raise from Montana 🤣🤣🤣
Honestly Mako and Asami aren’t even a bad couple, they’re low key great together, the problem is Mako just isn’t good in a relationship, he’s not ready or mature enough for it. I’m glad he got better in the future
Kenny in the Nuktuk costume would radiate a Himbo energy that I don't know if I could be strong enough to withstand.... I support it!!
I'm with Kenny on this one concerning Mako. I get what Montana means with "I'm not giving up on you" but you gotta remember she's his ex-girlfriend and a dear friend too. However Asami clearly went in for the Kiss and we can see Mako being clearly uncomfortable in that moment, his face screams "Uh what?". He just shouldn't have said "It's alright" after the kiss, but yeah .. he is clumsy when it comes to that, as we've seen before too in season 1, when he was dating Asami and rejecting Korra "I like you too, things are complicated"
Also his scene watching the picture of him and Korra also shows that while he broke up, it's not because he doesn't care about her anymore. We've all seen them clashing a lot and their relationship being under a lot of strain. It's not that uncommon for couples to have break-ups/make-up phases. Althou i do agree that him and Korra doesn't really work out.
Without spoiling, you're in for a wild ride with the next few episodes :D
I will keep saying it till y’all give my boy his credit😂 he’s crazy with the editing skills. Great vid again love the content.
Very close on the Varrick motives only after a re-watch did I realized that he had two goals one was to get republic city to join the war effort but at the same time he was also being selfish by using the war to turn his business into a monopoly by taking over Asami’s company
My friend makes the cutest appa bucket hats and she’s making one for me!!!
I want to see it.
You two are one of the few you tubers I am just excited for every week.
It makes me so happy to see how professional their setup is now, when I started watching in season one of avatar on tiktok, they were just filming on their phone, before they got youtube. I’m happy for them
It's really refreshing having so many of the shady characters come from groups outside of the Fire Nation in LOK. We spent so much time seeing the Fire Nation as the bad guys in ATLA, so it's cool that they balanced it out by showing the fire nation in a good light for so much of LOK and showing darker sides of the other elements and their nations.
LMAO NOT THE DRIVERS LISCENCE CLIP WITH MAKO & KORRA SKHSKJHLJH 👀
I think these guys are being extra hard on Mako, and if this was asami making these moves everyone would be like "yes queen 💅 "

Me - Oh you sweet summer children...
I mean...
What I love is how smart varrick actually is most of the funny business he has is just a front
Y’all are in for a wild ride the next few episodes. One of the high points of the series
I feel like the thing with Mako is that he fucked something up so then he's thinking ok I messed up and thinks maybe the police aren't always right and tries to go against them to do what he felt was right to fix that he messed up before thus making him mess up more.
This whole season shows everyone messed in in different ways showing how they aren't just perfect heros and the struggles of trying to live up to that past feelings they ended with in season 1!
Kenny: talking to someone in the spirit portal
Me: *smilling*
Kenny: some sell your soul to the devil
Me: haha just you wait to the season finale
Jalen: Thinks what they're doing isn't spoilers.
Me: How hard is it to not do this.
Mako being okay with the sting operation makes sense to me, he saw what happened when he followed the rules too much and it cost him Korra's trust and their relationship. Now he knows it's not the right way to go, so it makes sense for him to be okay with the sting operation, because it happened *after* he ratted Korra out to the President.
EDIT: Also, to explain Mako's reasoning for ratting Korra out: If the president found out Mako was lying to him, what do you think would have happened? Lying to the president to his face in regards to a matter bordering on insurrection is grounds for *way worse* than losing his job.
8:02 not the driver's license while mako is looking at the picture 💀

I don’t know why I found that so hilarious. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
This is exactly why I HATE when either Asami or Korra are in relationships with Mako. It feels like their characters are weakened so much. Mako is not at fault.
EDIT: I initially worded this incorrectly. Apologies.
What has Mako to do with this?? Both Asami and Korra were also responsible for the messy love triangle. Homeboy is just breathing and they go for it.
basiclly it wasn't Mako's fault at all. It was an unlucky situation
@@lolgamer4265 I agree it's not his fault. I just don't like how Asami and Korra seem to weaken as characters when they enter relationships with him. I think worded this wrong. Sorry.

Mako is in the clear, kiss wise.
OK I'm not Mako's biggest fan but yall really put all of his and Korra's relationship on him. Yes he is not the best but Korra was also very toxic too. he gets a little too much hate for that relationship
Same, Mako was always just eh for me and they were just bad for each other. They both have strong personalities and neither one of them ever really bothered with compromise. That said, Korra was usually the unreasonable one in the relationship, often asking for Makos “honest” opinion and then getting upset when he actually makes sense rather than just siding with her on issues that affect the world
That's what I'm saying, they really just be hyping up Korra, but her headstrong arrogant nature cause her to make horrible decisions often, and he's expected to just stand by all of them. I'm sorry, but that's silly. I genuinely think Mako has done nothing wrong since they got back to republic City.

This is the only reason I look forward towards Thursday’s’.
there should be "It's fucking verick" counter
As you said, Mako isn‘t always the best character, but we have to say that he‘s an extremely powerful bender! I rate him even over Zuko cause he‘s more acrobatic, his fighting style is more adapted to fighting, he has a lot of experience and he‘s the only bender, besides iroh able to generate AND redirect lightning!! also as you said, he was the only person besides korra able to break free from amon‘s grid and hit him with lightning, only moving one finger!!! But all of this is just my opinion so Zuko stans don‘t come after me😅
Mako's mindset has nothing to do with "Go along with the law". He told Raiko about what Korra wants to do not because it's "illegal", but because he wanted to save Korra from a potentially extremely bad situation, whe she - as the avatar - is in a serious conflict with one of the nations. He doesn't have any problems crossing the law, he grew up on the streets, was stealing to survive as a child, and was a member of the triads. That's why there is no contradiction and inconsistencies between what he did behind Korra's back and what he did against Lin's wishes. These are completely different things. He didn't have anything to gain or lose from telling/not telling Raiko, he didn't have anything to gain or lose by refusing to help Asami. But by helping her he could easily lose his job or even end up in jail. Even with all his flaws Mako's key character trait in these situations is the desire to help and protect from harm people he cares about. Even if the way he does it and sees things contradicts with opinions of the people he cares about, because Korra definitely wouldn't care about a conflict with Raiko, and helping her tribe is number one priority for her. I guess it's my weird way to say that Mako is overprotective. Which goes alongbwith his character, you know, being an older brother, carrying Bolin and himself, saving his brother from stupid situations and so on.
00:00 Cut to Bolin's "SHE'S ONLY BEEN GONE 3 DAYS/ KORRA JUST LEFT 3 DAYS AGO"

I’m enjoying this journey with you guys. I feel like I’ve bonded with you guys. That’s why I subbed.
I agree with Kenny. Mako didn’t lean in and Asami kissed him. He definitely gets better throughout the show
This was a messy episode (at least relationship-wise), I think arguments can be made on all sides of things. But I do agree with you guys around the hypocrisy of Mako's actions this episode in going behind his police oath when it suits his agenda.
I came back to rewatch all this every time it surprises me how good and how perfect their predictions are I am in shock every time😭😂
Kenny, you are a genius, I won't tell you what you predicted, but you are a GENIUS
Yea I think that was 100% intended to be the big reveal that Varick was a villain, semi-villain
And as for Mako and how he threw his girlfriend under the bus that wasn't police business, finding the people that attacked the building was in fact police business so it was 100% in character for him
Not really a vilain, but both a shady business man AND a genius. Varrick is a very good strategist, especially when it comes to hostile take over and generating money. The guy singlehandedly - mostly, sorry Zhu li ! - invented movies to create propaganda to generate a war to profit from; all while blindsinding one of his biggest new competitor to acquire it before it threatened his business. All while looking like a goofy dude.
Not gonna lie I was watching this during class, and we were taking about migration and I thought I heard my teacher say fire nation lol
That kiss was 100% Asami 0% Mako. She kissed HIM he did not kiss back. Yes I know they just broke up, they don’t know she’s kidnapped, and ASAMI is kissing her ex boyfriend who happens to have broken up with her female best friend.
Mako is innocent. Justice for Mako.
Thats why he stayed with their lips connected
#justiceformako!! He’s right about everything!
@@BARALover96 he literally was shocked and awkward after.
Spoiler: Maybe in this episode, but not in future episodes.
I think we shouldn‘t blame asami due to her just losing literally anything. She was in emotional distress and her ex war right there, saying he was here for her. I would have budged
Since y'all asked for thoughts on the Makosami moment in the comments, I consider Mako to be frustrating and without much of a backbone but not malicious. He does actually care about his friends, including Asami and Korra. In this instance he's genuinely trying to be a good friend with the "I won't give up on you" stuff with Asami. However, Asami is at such a low point now with recently losing her dad, her home, her fortune and taking over Future Industries and trying to make it okay despite the most likely negative publicity the company name has with Sato's being aligned with the bad guys. Asami is in a vulnerable place and looks to the one person comforting her who broke up with her so badly to kind of find comfort. Mako really should have been a decisive no at this point because he isn't actually feeling it but doesn't seem to want to reject her.
I'm convinced Mako's whole problem is that he doesn't want to let anyone down so he just goes along with things even if they're not what he wants to do and it results in bad decisions. He's not malicious, though, just misguided and emotionally immature but they're late teens so that kind of makes sense.
I agree with Kenny. Mako did nothing wrong in that situation
I've been waiting for all of book 2 to come out to watch them back to back! I will watch every ad to support you guys. Been following since tik tok
Mako is definitely in the wrong. Though he has a certain level of trust with the triple threats. Due to the fact they helped raise him and Bolin.
In the wrong regarding the kiss??
@@fabiancardona6240 he's in the wrong regarding who he goes to and how he goes about presenting evidence(shouldn't enter an interrogation and spew evidence randomly). With the kiss, that was both of them. The way Mako stated 'i won't give up on you' unwittingly gave invitation to Asami; who's in a vulnerable state. Though Asami shouldn't kiss when its not mutually wanted(its similar to Bolin with Ginger). It really boils down to variance in their maturity and experience level, on both ends.
@@jonathanjohnson6727 I see, I get the evidence thing, even tho if I don’t think it’s a big deal, he’s actually doing a good job unlike the rest of the cops, so it doesn’t matter and I don’t think he should worry about presenting evidence correctly, at least imo it doesn’t matter. Regarding the kiss, saying I’m not giving up on you I don’t think invites a kiss, that does not mean kiss me, I don’t think mako was in the wrong by any means, really just asami. Still love her tho
Asami: "just the two of us"
Montana: Chemistry senses activated
The next 2 episodes are some of my favorites in either series. Can’t wait!
Going behind Lin's back? Hiring the triads? Yup, pretty dumb stuff. All the stuff with Asami? Don't think that's on him. If he had planned to get with her, there's no point in hiding his breakup from her. He didn't go in for a kiss, was clearly uncomfortable about the whole thing, and there's nothing wrong with being there for a good friend, especially when helping her also helps him solve the case he's become obsessed with. Gotta go with Kenny on this one.
I screemed when they played drivers license😂👄
Sweet sweet Asami... Mako doesn't deserve her
Nah bru, she fked up to

@@olatundeakala152 kissed him like Korra did. When Mako is a centimeter away from Korra, Asami slides in thos dm's
@@adriaandejager8877 That just goes to show all the bottled up feelings she's had since the last season
@@olatundeakala152 dont know about that, to me she seems very hungry for romance. My op.
