Can I beat Pokémon X with only Shiny Pokémon using Hardcore Nuzlocke Rules?
Note: Shiny odds have been increased to 1 in 50 (ish)!
Normal Nuzlocke Ruleset:
1. Fainting = Death
2. Can only catch the first shiny Pokémon on each route (Species clause applies).
3. Nickname Pokémon
Hardcore Nuzlocke Ruleset:
4. No items in battle (held items okay)
5. No leveling past the next gym leader/E4 (at the START of the battle)
6. Play on "Set" battle mode
Additional Kalos Ruleset:
7. Anime Rule - Must match the party size of the gym leader and E4 members
8. No stat boosting moves

Love the dichotomy between Basalt's peaceful Queendom in the PC while Tourmaline is to waste away in the very same digital space. That's the quality HG content I sign up for. Also, Beedrill's shiny is really underrated, the deep green really works for it.

I think its cool that scraggy killed the amaura and tyrunt in the 2nd gym, and then killed the aurorus and tyrantrum in the champion battle.

@@aubarlowe i have tried other nuzlockers but flygonHG's narration and persistent injokes (like nosey, puppet battles, ect), and overall energy/vibe are what set him above the rest.
Although bloody is pretty fun to watch to. (She did a soul link with him and now has done some individual nuzlockes including a blind white 2 run)
I love all your video ideas, but honestly I really enjoyed the shiny only theme here, I'd love to see that in another game too.
Also side note: taking a bite out of "gourgeist" to symbolize crunch in the champion fight literally had me wheezing, that was brilliant
Not only is Flygonhg the best Pokémon nuzloke streamer, but he’s honestly made me enjoy Pokémon again. His casual commentary, attention to detail, and comedy makes for an entertaining listen. His Pokémon knowledge is so vast and he explains his strategies so well that he’s legitimately got me into Pokémon. Witnessing actual challenge in the games and the enjoyment of creating strategies has inspired me to try my own nuzlokes and more difficult Roms. Flygon, if you’re reading this I want you to know that you have inspired me and countless others to enjoy and engage with Pokémon again. Thank you!!
How about this for a playthrough idea: Alphabet challenge
At any given moment, you can only have one Pokemon that begins with each letter (this includes in your party AND in your box). A for Abra, B for Blastoise, so on.
However, if your Pokemon evolves or if you catch a new one, you have to make room for them. E.g. your Abra evolves into Kadabra, but you already have a Kabuto. You'd have to release either the Kabuto or the Kadabra, since you can only have one "K" Pokemon.
You could also give yourself a goal of having one of each lettered Pokemon before the Champion. I think this is possible in HG/SS. Zubat, Yanma, Xatu, Umbreon, Quagsire, just to name some of the rarer letters.

Alphabet Locke is a good challenge. I think every gym badge the order rotates between Species and Dex qualification. I did one in heart gold and it was a lot of fun

Adding "here are the rules" to the beginning of your video is perfect. Makes things short and sweet and cuts down on long videos even if it's just a minute. As always, your masterpiece of a puppet show is always great. Taking a bite out of Gourgeist the sweet potato was priceless haha.

The moment I saw an X nuzlocke... I manifested two things: (1) a Carbink, and (2) the puppet Diantha fight. Needless to say, I am as heartbroken as you are to see a shiny Mime Jr. while also belly laughing once again at the sweet potato Gourgeist. It will always be my favorite thing on your channel. It will never get old.
At this rate, you will have no choice but to run a solo Carbink (or 6 Carbink only) Kalos run.

I remember seeing your first nuzlocke, and though the quality was good back then as well, you have clearly come a long way and improving with every upload. I'm glad you're with us ☺️
Here's an idea, Alphabet Nuzlocke. Exactly what it sounds like, you can only catch pokemon that start with the current letter in the alphabet (starting with A, then B, etc.).
So if you were doing a Gen 4 run, you could use, Abra, Budew, Caterpie, etc.
Once the pokemon is caught, nickname them the letter they represent.
You can evolve your pokemon but to make this somewhat difficult, if you enter a grass patch on a route and don't catch a pokemon, the route is permanently closed off once you leave the route (I.e. If you do a Gen 4 run, you would automatically lose the first two routes because you wouldn't be able to catch a Pokemon starting with the letter A, but would need to enter the grass to progress).
The channel Rylockes does this, they're really entertaining

I like how you're using the anime rule, because it makes fights in most Pokemon games feel much harder and you have to kind of team build a bit even if you're only using a full team of 6. I use it in my casual runs and monotype runs to spice them up a bit, cool to see someone else implementing it too occasionally.
I tried to do anime rules in my first challenge run of X and just.. honestly every leader after Grant being capped at 3 made me give up since it was lame having a good chunk of my mons constantly sitting out meant they somehow were underleveled.. in Kalos... but maybe that was because I also turned off the exp share.. which btw makes Kalos brutal since it is not balanced around not having it on.. but surprisingly if you are rotating your team roster the exp share kinda works as intended
@@BaconNuke That is true, I had the EXP share off until training for the E4 in my X Ghost only run recently. I got pretty underlevelled and it was more of a tedious training thing if anything. But I had a blast team building for each gym, I also used level caps but I just don't enjoy nuzlocking personally anymore (done too many, it got boring for me to play) so it's a good replacement for that. I like watching challenge runs though, it's fun to see other people doing it. I don't lock myself out of using megas though, I find that to be unfun and the whole point of even playing XY is to make use of them. I do wish more megas were used by the AI though, similarly to how Z-Moves were implemented in Gen 7 for all the Kahunas and Rival Battles.

I'm surprised that he didn't also adjust it somehow to ensure his starter was always shiny.
I definitely support healthy work/life/health balances and was curious how he was going to get his shinies. (My first shiny was a zubat in Pearl probably 10years after starting to play Pokemon with Saphire, full odds is a treat and hunting shouldn't be done under those conditions. His 2% odds were atleast reasonable even if still grindy.)

SO many incredible moments in this challenge. The Froakie backstory, the Mime Jr segment, the shiny paper dolls... Incredible work. BUT WHO TOOK A BITE OUT OF THE GOURGEIST POTATO?? I love that you did some teambuilding and Elite Four strategizing on stream--I'll definitely be taking a look at that soon.

Hey Dr Flygon! I am an engineering student like you were and I like Pokémon for the strategy as well. Watching your videos inspired me to try a hardcore nuzlocke for the first time. I had almost a full box of deaths, mainly from impatience when grinding but I beat Cynthia first attempt with a variation of some strategies I’ve seen you use before. Your videos have stretched my brain into thinking differently about Pokémon and I think it’s helping in my work as well. 24:57 I remember playing a nuzlocke of Y and finding a trevenant in the same forest. I also had a shiny greninja. It was an actual copy of the game, too.

Ive been playing through Kalos again after loosing my old cart about 6 years ago and missing it dearly, and I gotta say it is a pretty fantastic generation. obv it can use some better gym teams but the variety of pokemon, as well as Pokemon Amie, Fairy types, etr. it comes together super well! also my first encounter on route 4 was a shiny budew :)
my Team is Pyro (Delphox), Siena (Raichu), Mallow (Roserade☆), Slice (Doublade), Basil (Vaporeon), and Glacier (Amourus(idk how to spell it rip))
and its one of the most not "everyone uses that team in that game" teams Ive used and I love them all :)
Bit of a con with odds of 1/50 for a shiny encounter… takes away the whole challenge that a “shiny nuzlocke” holds 🤧
