  • The Glacier View Car Jump…A perfect way to celebrate 4th of July in Alaska! The 2.5 hour drive from Anchorage was beautiful, traffic didn’t back up until a few miles before the turnoff around 8:00am. For 2024, tickets were $20/person at the gate, they took cash or credit (cash line was faster). We saw campers for miles boondocking plus many more in nearby campgrounds including the Glacier View River Retreat where some of our family and friends stayed. They are concerned this may be the last year because the river is eroding away the spectator area at an increased speed. Fingers crossed we get to attend another year!

    -Cash for Vendors (some did take cards)

    -Coolers & Wagons - only if they are easy to pull, larger wheels to pull over rocky areas and you have patience to drag the thru the crowd or wait until it clears out a bit.
    -Dogs and Kids - all are welcome, some didn’t handle the noise as well and again, the crowd gets thick at times so best to go early, stay late and let the crowd lighten up before trudging your poor family thru the mass of people (who were all great and courteous!)

    OMG, the cold in Alaska must be affecting your minds (in a good way)
    I am so in. I want to go to Alaska so bad, stuff like this just makes me really want to go.
    That Class C motorhome was the best. A little scary really, the way it just imploded.
    Looking forward to some bus videos, hopefully you can trace that offending wire down soon.

      Thank you! Yes, the elusive “green & yellow” wire has to be in there somewhere!
      If not, maybe we’ll be filming how well a Wanderlodge fares in next-years event 😜
      We’ve gotta say the tradition of fireworks has its place, but this form of community really feels more “American” (even for gearheads like us who really had a crush on some of the vehicles like the Barbie Corvette & Fall Guy truck❤️‍🩹)

    Absolute 2025 destination! The CG C-130 should have put itself closer to the deck!

      @Buoy4AK  3 месяца назад

      Yes, we hope you make it up!
      C-130 raised the hard deck due to very high drone traffic (ours was not one of them 😎). Realistically a TFR & NOTAM might be justified with this many people & manned aircraft (although no part of this entire evolution is what you might call “safe” 😉)

    Thank you. I was wondering if I could get up closer with my scooter. I don't think my scooter and the battery would last on that long of a trip. Been disabled for many years and with out it I'm done. Now I know 👍🏻
    The only thing I saw that bothered me was people go up the hill to pull stuuf off the cars that didn't make it to the bottom. They could have easily broke one loose causing it to roll down and over people at the bottom. I was a Firefighter/EMT for many yrs and that did not look safe. See y'all next year 🇺🇸

      You’re more than welcome! And yes, there was an ambulance standing by. Besides the danger of falling cars/debris on the hill/cliff, that raging river behind us was no joke! That, & just that many people in one place, seemed ripe with opportunity for a medical emergency of some kind. Thankfully, the ambulance crew had nothing to do but enjoy the show 😉
      Solid maybe on the scooter. The ground was firm with about an inch of glacial rock flour (“silt” with a consistency of talc & sticks to everything). If your scooter had tires 6” or bigger, I’d bet you could make it. If it was raining, well, that might make things pretty slick. Either way, there’s only really one way to find out 👍

    Nice: 2 questions: 1- How long is the walk from the parking lot to the watching area? 1/4 mile - 1/2 mile. 2- You didn't document the launching of the cars: I'm guessing a hydraulic catapult, like jets off a carrier. A cannon, like in the movie Grand Prix? and lastly: what's the criteria for winning and the prize money? Safe Travels!
