When Entwistle was “lead guitarist”, eg at Live at Leeds, I’d say that PT was the greatest rhythm player I’ve ever heard. I LOVE his rhythm playing. The extended parts of My Gen and Magic Bus are unbelievable.
@@lastmanstanding9389 I love Pete as much as a fan can, honestly. He's one of my earliest heroes. But let's be reasonable. The only thing he learned from Pete was that HI-WATT amps are great and how visually interesting it is to destroy your instrument. He sure as hell did not learn how to play guitar from Pete. Pete and Clapton and other white brits playing the blues were terrified of Hendrix and with reason.
I respect this guy so much...he is my fav rythym guitar player ever.....and I love how he always sings John's praises....cuz john entwhistle was such a powerhouse. But as confident as pete is...hes really honest and somewhat humble
Pete is a fantastic live guitar player, love his playing, all of it. Only recently did I realize how important John's playing is to the sound, a lot of neat stuff is John too for sure.
I would love to see again an 80s interview with Townshend by Barbara Waters. As I recall he got fed up and chastised her a bit, "Boy you're a real media person aren't you?" I don't even remember the question now. He also talks about the 60s not being as full of peace and love as everyone like to remember. I gained a lot of respect for him then, and have even more now after reading "Who I Am."
Read his autobiography “who am I”. Painfully honest. Shows he is a highly intelligent & complex man with a sharp tongue, at times. A musical genius, as if we didn’t know. He likes to be known today as a composer, but for me, he will always be a truly amazing guitarist. One of the best, ever.
Igor Stravinskys wrote his classical symphony firebird at 27 based on a fairytale and choreography the correlation Sir Peter Townsend wrote his rock opera quadrophenia at 29. Cheers beloved and respected stoic philosopher with sophisticated wit and introspective ruminations.
@Pundan Re: your statement to Korgi about vacuum tubes. You need to go back and reread his statement. It seems to me that you misunderstood his point. By the way, because you don't agree with something that someone says, is it really necessary to be vulgar? Does it not occur to you to be civil to others in your use of language?
In rock ‘n’ roll we do use the term “power chord,” (not that any double stop is a power cord… The power cord is you know, the root and the fifth) and yes you are correct. But his whole point was about the harmonics and all of that…
@@JohnnyArtPavlou I know what he was trying to say..what he said was something along the lines of playing 2 notes at the same time and that it was a chord which it isn`t until you add the 3rd note

The master of distortion speaks the truth...
Thank you, Mr. Townsend, for putting a guitar in my hands and a dream in my head.
Me to
People talk about Hendrix, Cream and Zepplin, but nobody moved guitar based rock forward more than Pete Townsend and The Who
After all, Hendrix was only copying The Who went he burnt his guitar.
@@OlafProt Ummm, I think Hendrix's guitar work speaks for itself.
@@peterjonas4971 Hendrix was an unknown blues guitarist until the Who took him under their wing and he learnt from Pete..

God bless Pete Townsend. If it weren't for him, Rock music would be a dream. Long LIVE ROCK
He knows so much about the intricacies of music and orchestration.
He should be in a band.
Always love listening to Pete. I always come away with something rewarding for my time spent.

Cool comment
Nice interview
What a national treasure Pete Townshend USA USA USA
In the end the WHO is the only band that really matters. Thank god for the WHO. The world would only rotate 3/4 of the way without Pete Townsend.

Pete wrote Tommy when he was 23-24, amazing
Pete Townsend on music theory. Yeah, that’s a winner.
Pete Townshend is the ORIGINAL Guitar Hero... (Imho)

Is that eel pie studio?
Frequency domain analysis. Not many players would go that far in search of the truth.

yeah... it was

there`s no such thing as a 2 note chord Pete..that`s an interval..in bluegrass we call it a double stop..a chord has to have at least 3 notes
