    I have found feeding sinking food rather than floating has been making my kois really bulky and great growth. It also helps my koi from gulping air. I feed 5 times a day, my taniguchi tosai went from 20cm to 70cm nisai.

      Very nice results. You can find that with sinking food for various reasons but to also takes more management.

    What is the difference between the Saki-hikari growth & the hikari growth in the red bag?

    • @KoiWholesale
      @KoiWholesale  3 месяца назад +1

      It's like they're made by 2 different companies. Not only does Saki have the patented Hikari Germ but it also just a much higher quality.

    Good explanation of this subject. But , even with very good water control, is it possible to overfeed the koi?

    • @KoiWholesale
      @KoiWholesale  Год назад +1

      Yes it is possible this is where skill and experience comes in. Trying to feed the maximum without going too far.

    • @Samp2503
      @Samp2503 Год назад

      Look at the poo for signs of overfeeding. I was overfeeding mine In summer which I could see because of diarrhoea from some fish. I adjusted the time between feeds until the diarrhoea stopped and then stuck with that and saw better growth.

    So when spring starts how do you start feeding the koi I know you wait for 50% so the food doesn’t rot in there stomach what’s your advice thanks western Washington

    • @KoiWholesale
      @KoiWholesale  Год назад

      Just start with a very small fixed amount, consistently each day. Slowly build it up based on your water parameters.

    Great attention to detail Ricky. When you say allow them to rest over winter, is it a case of dropping your temperature to 15/16 c or do you go lower? Thanks for your help so far.

    • @KoiWholesale
      @KoiWholesale  Год назад

      Lower, I really don’t like 15-16c. For winter you want to go 8-12c

    Hi Ricky very interesting topic and one I love. Please could you explain you yearly temperature guide ? and feeding in a bit more detail. So in summer you maintain 24c for 6 months and feed every two hours. But how do you lower the temperature and feeding to 12C what sort of temperature loss is safe for the koi and how do you adjust the feeding to the lower temperature? Like wise in early summer you raise the Temp and feed what is a good guide to go by?

    • @KoiWholesale
      @KoiWholesale  Год назад

      In lower temperatures I really don’t feed a lot. Just a couple of time of times a day manually.

      @@KoiWholesale Cheers Many Thanks for your reply. It was managing the transitional changes from 24C to 12C and the reverse 12C to 24C and how you adjust the feeding to match the temperature? What is a safe temperature a day adjustment? All the best Great content and brilliant magazine.

    Great explanation as per. Would it work just to give small fish a boost to have them in a holding net in your main pond , so you can make sure there getting plenty of food without being bullied off by the bigger koi, if you haven’t got a separate pond for them? Cheers Ricky 👍

    • @KoiWholesale
      @KoiWholesale  Год назад

      Not really because living in the net would be stressful and potentially damaging.

      @Richard Brunton it's tricky that one I liked your question because when I buy fry each year I have to have them in a floating net in my grow pond. otherwise, they go down the bottom drain and when they're big enough I release them into the pond. Thinking about it now maybe that's the reason for so many deformities like Ricky mentioned can damage the fish. Might have to have a rethink on what I can do with the bottom drain maybe remove the spindrifter part and get a stainless perforated plate made but then could cause issues with flow🤔

    Hi Ricky, very interesting, what are your thoughts on pond size v growth? Does pond size limit the growth potential, or will regular small water changes compensate for this to some degree?

    • @KoiWholesale
      @KoiWholesale  Год назад

      I believe pond size eventually effects the volume that can be gained. I’ve seen big koi raise in small ponds and although they get volume it’s not to the extent I’ve seen in Japan. Volume makes a big difference.
