    @ 7:40. The Red Baron’s replacement after he was killed in action in WW1, as the leader of the squadron, was none other than the earlier seen Goering. He was a recognised flying ace in his own right. Although much slimmer in those days.

    1:45 Wait a minute. You're saying that a tortoise from 1885 is still alive today? How can that be?

    • @tohaason
      @tohaason Год назад +1

      The giant tortoises can get very old. That particular one was probably hatched in 1832 (according to Wikipedia, there's more written elsewhere and there's always some uncertainty). As they can probably live to 200 or more he may still have some time left.

    • @watchman1178

      @@tohaason Wow, 200 years? I knew they lived a long time, but I had no idea they got that old.

    • @tohaason
      @tohaason Год назад +3

      @@watchman1178 They get old. There's an unverified account of one who allegedly lived to 255, but Jonathan's case is better documented. Turns out that the latest possible year he was hatched was 1832, it's possible he was hatched earlier (and is therefore even older), it's just that in 1886 he was fully mature and that means he was hatched *at the latest* in 1832 - they aren't getting to full maturity until they reach around 50 (unlike humans, us men in particular.. we never mature, it's just that our toys get more expensive).

    • @watchman1178
      @watchman1178 Год назад

      @@tohaason 😃 Thanks for the information. I'm still blown away that any species lives to be over 200 years old. That's amazing.

    • @tohaason

      @@watchman1178 Bowhead whales can live past 200 as well. This was first suspected when living specimens were found with embedded harpoons which could be age determined. Since verified by other scientific techniques. Of course this is a much larger animal, but it's also a mammal unlike slow-growing reptiles.
