"The Man Who Refused to Salute" received so many comments that a separate deeper delve video into the story was warranted. FYI, I had mistakenly labeled him as a soldier, when in fact he was a naval yard worker. His identity is disputed and it could have been either of two men working that day. They both had a story. Watch to the end and then you decide for yourself:

My favourite was the man refusing to salute. It makes me wonder what was going through his mind and why he refused.......I'd like to think that he knew it was wrong, he hated Hitler and everything about him, and didn't want to join Hitler's army and serve under his commands.
Isn't that the crazy thing about these photos ? We have no idea of knowing what was going on in their mind. What if he was checking his mobile phone at the time and just missed the salute ???? .... (p.s. I'm aware mobile phones hadn't been invented yet, but it makes you think)
@@AmazingHistoricalPhotos lol, that would have been epic if that were the case. So many funny things going through my head now at your theory 😂🤣
@@amandafazio2494 I have a long list of strange things that it could’ve been … each sillier than the last. Too many years of watching Monty Python i’m afraid 🤣😃
@@AmazingHistoricalPhotos 😂🤣 I made a comment on a funny animal video in reference to the French guy yelling about farting in King Arthur's general direction because of a clip I saw. But my thoughts about the soldier and ignoring the salute due to a cell phone isn't so innocent 😅
@@amandafazio2494 You are talking to someone who flew from North America to Scotland just to visit Doune Castle, where they filmed that scene !!!! LMAO.
The photo "escaping the death train". They look absolutely giddy. Imagine the relief. Then all that was lost. Great format and accompanying music. Thanks.
Thank you for watching, and for your feedback.
I was so impressed with the one soldier who did not salute. Great photos!
His name was August Landmesser.
@@marcberard9173 so were they all civilians at one of Hitler's rallies or something?? How do we know his name and who he married and if he had a daughter and if he was executed because of the photo??
@@marcberard9173 im pretty sure it was that his jewish wife was sent to a camp and after he did that he was forced to join the army or face jail time or worse and after ww2 he was pronounced MIA
@@heyjude6680 his name was August Landmesser
He's just feeling cold or just sleeping
One of my favourites is Harold Whittles hearing for the first time. The look on his face is priceless.
All these pictures are truly amazing. Thanks for posting them and I look forward to seeing more 😮
Thank you for watching ... and for your support.
It’s so fascinating to learn about history outside of school. Simply because school takes all the fun out of learning things
100 % agree with this. I learned considerably more after I left school than while I was attending.
Same. I love history though sometimes I hate how I have to study the same thing for school. I got bored when my teacher was teaching about medieval times, which sucks since the medieval times were very interesting to me and I loved learning about, and my teacher took all the fun away 🥲.
depends on the teacher , I hated school but was lucky to have a great history teacher , he was 25 and just out of oxford university ,he used to take us on trips in his own time ,we had loads of fun we went to Bath ,Stonehenge and a couple of other places .
@@philipchurchill6508 Dang. I wish my history teachers were like that. I wish they took us to the actual places instead of just making us read off of textbooks and photos on the website.
True
100 years. Let's applaud to the generation of hardships, dedication & perseverance. 👏
2:54 I love this photo seeing Einstein smile is so heart warming!
The music was perfect for this slide show. Not too melancholy or too upbeat, just right! Thank you.
Thank you for your kind feedback. Glad you enjoy my music also
Great montage. The survivors from the Titanic boarding the Carpathia. The young boy's expression after hearing for the first time.
Photos always captures a whole story around them , photography is one of the best inventions to this date
I was born in 1980. I think seeing these pictures is very cool. Hope to see more. Thank you.
Hi Chris. Please pass along this website to all your friends and acquaintances. If we don't learn from history we are doomed to repeat it. We all learn something from these historical photos.
Glad you enjoyed it. When I was young I didn't appreciate history or what people like my grandparents went through during the war. By the time I fully understood their sacrifice and that of their generation, it was too late to say thank you. It warms my soul that this channel is reaching all ages.
@@AmazingHistoricalPhotosSo your grandparents saw war in real life?
@@AmazingHistoricalPhotos i was born in 2011 and these are some really interesting pieces of history..keep up with these videos!😄
@@AmazingHistoricalPhotos as a kid, it makes sense. Many people like history and some don't. Many times kids being...well, kids don't get this. But for the ones who understood, they probably either learn it for school, or personal intrest. In personal interest, some learnt it as theh find history intresting, like, how civilization happened, how it ended, kingdoms, so on. Then, the others are the type who want to know how past is related to the present and future, eg. Russia and us hated eachother since..i think the cold war (?) And still do.
Yes, i wrote an essay.
An excellent video of important people, events, and moments in time. Thanks!
Thank you for watching and for your feedback.
Same!!!!!!!!!!!!! Btw keep it up
Great time capsule of how much the world has changed in a little over a century.
The image of Lewis Payne is so clear. He looks young and idealist.
Could be from a hundred years later.
That's exactly what I thought when I saw it - he could be a modern-day fashion model with that hair 😲😲😲
He was young he was only 21 when he was executed.
He looks like a movie star.
he WAS young and idealist. unfortunately for the side that lost
Fascinating. I wonder if future generations will feel the same way about our times.
I think it's part of Human evolution to do so. Much of what we have, language, government structures etc. came from the Romans. The Romans learned directly from the Greeks, who were heavily influenced by the Egyptians. Most of what we and they did was built upon the pillars of the past !
Great set of pics you really have a great collection enjoy your videos very much thanks for posting. There were so many good ones in this video
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching
Great pictures (and music). Thank you!
Glad you enjoy them! The original music is by self taught composer Mark Bulmer. (markbulmer.com) ... Thank you for the feedback.
This collection of yours is a excellent piece of work. Two thumbs up.
Thank you very much for your kind words. Much appreciated.
0:42 Something about this simple image is so striking to me. I've seen pictures of the Mona Lisa nearly ad nauseum since birth, but to think that same painting has been through so many wars. SO MANY. Still, she survives. She will very likely have to go through more, and people will have to pack her away again just like this. Then those of us who survive will see her brought out to the light of day again. A sad life for a painting if you ask me.
Agreed, and it is sad. But how powerful is it that through the generations there exists different people willing to protect such a beautiful word of art ?
History is so young. These were taking just yesterday 😢😊
Amazing photos. Thank you!
Many thanks!
Great channel! Thank you!
Thank you too! Appreciate the support.
If you were ever to publish a book I would be first in line to buy a few copies. Thank you for the effort on what you giving us. True pleasure!

Stunning moments. A trip down memory lane with some, and a real education with others. Thank you for this!

These pictures make me feel really emotional, pinpointing things to my own family in that they were either alive or not long born, an times that will simply never be again 😔

@@AmazingHistoricalPhotosThank you again. May you happy old day. It's already 12 days from New Year day. Scary indeed.😂
@@ounkwon6442 Time sure does fly !!
It is honestly amazing how one click and a snap has preserved the suffering and joy humanity went through during the hundred-ish years the camera was invented.
One day WE will be the new nostalgia
I doubt it
@@debbieschultz9768 Yes, we will be, some day in a hundred years from now, the world will have thousands of problems and the people will just think about how good was the world in the beggining of the 2000's.
@@PelinalWhitestrake9147not necessarily. Even in these days, many ppl (including myself) look at the past and think that life was horrible back then or that neither now or then was a good time to live in so I highly doubt ppl from the future will think of the 21st century as a good time
I liked the photo from Sweden where we change driving from left to right I am from Sweden and remember the day becuse we where out driving like many others , I was 7 years old 😊.
Greatings from Sweden, Gothenburg 🤗🇸🇪
When I see old photos in black and white, sometimes I think of the song _Memories,_ as sung by the long retired songstress Barbara Streisand.

respect to the german soldier a very brave man refusing to salute
Indeed.
once my brother did the nazi salute
@@AlfredFJones-USA76 I guess me and him have some lthing in co-*FBI OPEN UP*
Fun fact, That soldier was married to a Jew, So he didn't wanna salute.
He wasn't actually a soldier, he was a ship worker, I made an error in the video. But he was indeed married to a jew.
i love the chaos on the roads after changeing drive in the right side lol
Not true. The photo shows the actual switch over to the other side. Not traffic morning after.
Loved this. Thank you!

7:17 look at that beautiful woman's face. Imagine thinking your life and your child's life was over and being spared
Chaplin was so cool in so many ways.
The photo of the people getting on the other boat after Titanic and the last prisoners leaving Alcatraz makes me wonder how they were going to renter the world after those events
It has all been very interesting 👍
Glad you think so!
bro i thought the protestant and catholic graves were their real arms. it gave me great relief when i realized they weren't
Me too 😂
The power emotional of this beautiful art who is the photography.
Refusing to salute. A terrific photo.
This is such a popular photo that I just made a separate video sharing the story. My caption is actually incorrect in that he was not a soldier, he was actually a worker at the Shipyard where this photo was taken. Anyway, his incredible and touching story can be found here: ruclips.net/video/6N7A7CAOQS8/видео.html
Being fined if you're bathing suit was too short, now these days we have suits that is basically a string lol
8:25 is truly incredible
That is what they f*cking get for supporting the country of Israel in the Asian continent.
Very true, folks.
At 1:42 it is not a soldier, but a shipyard worker. It is August Landmesser or Gustav Wegert in the photograph taken on 13 June 1936, which was published in 1991 in Die Zeit. It shows a large gathering of workers at the Blohm+Voss shipyard in Hamburg for the launching of the navy training ship Horst Wessel.
Thank you but this has already been noted in the description

Had seen all of these before but I still find them interesting.
Having researched for so long after a while I feel like I’ve seen them all. Every now and then I get something new. Either way I don’t mind. It’s good to be reminded and I have found the majority of folks who watch these haven’t seen as many as some of us. Thank you for the feedback.
😂😂 sure
I think the picture of Queen Elizabeth should have been titled Princess Elizabeth as she did not become Queen until 1952.
Everyone seeing the Hindenburg disaster: “Oh the humanity!”
Led Zeppelin: “Great idea for an album cover!”
I thought the same thing ... lol
The American gothic photo terrified me as a little girl. It was interesting to see the models. Thx.
That was amazing
10:00 really got me
Love these photos. "Job Hunting" just got to me. I think many of us can relate in some way.
God Bless the Queen of England. Working as a mechanic during WW 2, what a Queen and what a woman. 👏🏼
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Yeah, and FDR was a ballroom dance teacher! 😆😂🤣
What a racist pos lol
yes indeed. tea anyonw☕️

My favorite is the second one, partly because it's an impressive rescue, but also because the Titanic disaster took place during the presidency of William Taft, with whom I have a mini obsession.
Very good 👍🏾
Thank you! Cheers!
If they measured bathing suits today, everyone would be paying fines.
7:52 actually made me tear up...such a shame that now all you see is people wanting/expecting handouts.
It’s sad to think that that man who didn’t salute was probably never heard from again.

Forever young.
Can we just appreciate the fact that hundreds survived over an hour in the freezing Atlantic waiting for the Carpathia
Why are you asking permission?
Film Leo's roar is all they did. The roar we hear was a tiger's dubbed over the lion. Apparently lions didn't sound enough like lions back then as far as the film industry was concerned🙄
Yeah. A lion’s roar is pretty deep and gruff. Not like what people expect thanks to movies.

Everybody is talking about that one soldier, but nobody has really mentioned the chad that took the picture at 5:48....its so clear and everything.

The last one will make you laugh’ 😂
The young Hitler photo had the mustache added in. He would have been either clean shaven or had a handlebar mustache before he had to trim it after he found out the hard way that has masks don’t work with any other facial hair.
8:34-8:38 sounds like the beginning of Poirot tv series lol

That picture of Winston Churchill in 1895. Imagine growing up riding horses for transportation. Then in your 30s they invent the car
8:00 My mum told me how she went out with her dad during the night of switching from the left side to the right. I think it was about three in the morning when cars started to switch and my mum got to experience it first hand. She was seven at the time.
Shame about the typographical error on the Marilyn Munroe picture. Great job with all the pictures and information, tasteful music too
