Just the fact how fast they left the airship is impressive.... Within probably 10 seconds, Vax grows wings and picks up keyleth, just to drop a huge rock seconds later, Scanlan polymorphs Grog into a giant eagle that immediately darts off and Vex jumps off the ships deck, pulling out a broom, flying off and Percy just shoots a guy in the head That has to be fucking impressive for the crew
Ì don't know why, but for some reason, I just imagined everyone jumping of and percy jist standing on the ship, and randomly shooting a crew member in the head

Honestly in a way Keyleth’s comment that “you’re not THAT ugly” is more scathing than Vex’s original “you’re ugly” comment because Vex is obviously just trash talking, but Keyleth is being honest and trying to be nice but still doesn’t deny that she’s at least somewhat ugly
In my campaign I accidentally ran a situation similar to season 2 circus. My party let the devil live. Note in my campaign the devil was purely their to just make a show and escape his responsibilities in the nine hells. They burned the poor devils circus down and the devil is after my party. Reoccurring villains is so fun to manipulate and use mainly when they are able to be anywhere and everywhere without the party knowing.

When I saw that pop up on the video, my immediate reaction was: "It's so cheesy! Please tell me that Taliesin didn't make that up. It's worse than 'life needs things to live.'" xD
It's pretty cool how when Sam read that the ship was named "The Shrew" Laura nudged Liam there and they shared a grin as it seemingly was a little bit of a nod to the one shot that he did.
@@whiteamericanmale7392 Take it easy man. These have been out for years. I'm watching for the first time through myself. Word of advice...don't read the comments until after the episode and watch everything in order including the one shots. Campaign one is all well past the standard spoiler rule.
Well, you can't really call it a spoiler. The name of the boat was known from another episodes already and in the oneshot it's one of the first things you learn about their mission 😅

She's easily the most powerful member of Vox Machina, and had she been on her game more often she probably would have carried them through the entire campaign. As it happened though she ended up just turning into beasts most of the time.
Im only 30 min in right now, but I don't think she realizes how fast her wind walk spell is... 300 feet every 6 seconds (not including dash) = 50 feet per second = 3000 feet per min = Thats basically 34 miles an hour, in 8 hours they can travel almost 275 miles in a day... Dnd says you can travel 24 miles in a day (8 hours of actual travel) If they can make the mountain in two days they could mist form there in like 5 hours... They could probably easily mist form to the island of glass in 8 hours...
I gave a little smile when I realized the little halfling in the crew was the one that Vox Machina let live from the raiding party all those years ago. I say years, but actually I saw that episode less than a month ago.
@@rudewalrus5636 but after that they just did the trails take, and whitestone and shiat went dwon with dragons... I would incline myself to think at most 4-5 months passed.
Keyleth can sometimes seem not so powerful in battles, but this is truly her episode. She's controlling storms, making the airship go faster, becoming a keytheor, waterskiing... Love to see how awesome druids can be
Sam/Scandlan's story in this 'arc' has been a master class in giving a player/character a failure by letting them succeed. Sam didn't role low at any point during his 'drug deal', but still all that success was for nought, and lead him down a story progression that worked with his character. At any point he could have corrected it himself. He could have started by looking for it in the normal market, but no, he went in on the impression that it was a drug, and got player tunnel vision which Mat exploited. The Higher Sam rolled, the more confident he got, which sucked him in more and more. His tunnel vision clouded any sense of misgivings, and then blam! He's out of 400 gold, and the con men got their easy mark. Sam's rolls of Over 30s on some of his checks should have meant he was going to be walking away smug and pretty, but DM just let player be player, and twisted that success into glorious failure.
Scanlan succeeded very very well at what he was TRYING to do, buy some Fusaka from shady characters. And Sam was great at keeping the player knowledge of "this is probably not a drug" out of play. Because heck, the 400 gold is just a number on a piece of paper, and it's very funny to his friends and viewers if Scanlan gets totally scammed.
My favorite part about going back and watching these episodes over and over again is seeing the exact points in the past that informed the characters they would create in future campaigns.
I was pulling pallets at work and started laughing at that comment. Couldn't properly explain the comment and laughing to my co-workers and looked really weird.
A little late but If I had to GM a game with this much travel. I would go insane. The whole reason that I slow down travel in my games is to give myself at least a moment to prepare. Even if they change directions mid travel I'd still get at least 20/30 minutes of minor prep instead of 10 minutes of no prep. Honestly I'm impressed that he's able to keep up.
Throw in the game cheats called Dust of Tracelessness in infinite supply, and Rope of Infinity or whatever it's exactly called. Only thing they both do is make players lazy and unresourseful.
I think that the most balanced method of instant travel is the wizard's teleportation circle and the spell teleportation because it can easily go wrong even with a scry. And teleportation circle is limited to usually highly developed city areas so the party may be able to get closer instantly for one slot less. It still affords the dm prep time.
Watching Matt listen to the party hash out their different options is amazing. Hes like a super computer running variables trying (and succeeding) to plan out how their decisions will impact them now and in the future.
Honestly I think it is funny. Because compared to a wand of magic missile Percy's gun is not that dangerous. One wand of magic missile can clear an entire room of commoners in seconds. Guns are not that great of a threat compared to your average wizard too. Like "this creation will end so many lives" while wizards are like "lmao let's make this stick explode people you point it at"
@@wizardswordfish5875 Yes, but the issue with guns, even in a fantasy world, is that ANYONE can use one and it IS deadly weapon against other common people. He basically made a a weaker wand of missiles, but rather than just powerful spellcasters using them, it's EVERYONE.
I love how Grog is the least intelligent character but always has the most common sense; “how will we tell where she is relative to us in a giant body of water?”
It is interesting, specially when the group comes with convoluted ideas and he just throws the simplest ideas that works and people are like 'damn Grog, that's pretty smart'.
The thing is that Travis has a decent sense of the game overall. Probably the best of the group, at least from what I'm seeing in season 1. It's just that he's playing a barely sapient character, so he doesn't have much he can contribute aside from the occassional common sense when the group is overcomplicating something very simple.
“VOX MACHINA, ROLL OUT!” Percy shouts, setting up Bad News over the side of the ship. Trinket stands up behind him in full battle armor and roars. Vex, wooping and running towards the side of the ship, pokes Trinket with her necklace, throws her broom out in front of her, then leaps off the side of the ship, pulls out her witch hat, and holds it onto her head with one hand as she lands on the broom and takes off. At the same time, Grog responds to Trinket’s roar with one of his own, then he and Scanlan (best friends forever), smiling broadly, sprint towards the side of the ship. Grog, faster than Scanlan, gets there first and gives a mighty leap. As he does so, Scanlan snaps his fingers, and in mid-leap Grog turns into a giant eagle, giving a piercing eagle battle cry. Scanlan gives a hearty laugh as he leaps off the side of the ship, landing on Grog’s eagle form, and they take off. Meanwhile, Keyleth wraps her arms around Vax. He grins at her over his shoulder like the cool guy he is, and then PHOOMF! The black raven wings furl out to their full wingspan, in all their impressive glory. Keyleth gives Vax a peck on the cheek, and they take off. This is just the scene that I played out in my head after taking liberties with their descriptions of what was going on :) I love the Avengers feel. Imagine multiple camera angles, some from below the ship, as everyone is wooping and hollering and haphazardly jumping off the side of the ship. SUCH AN AWESOME EPISODE/SHOW!
Poisonous* - "Venom" is when the harmful substance is delivered via fangs, stingers or such. "Poison" is when it's inhaled, ingested, absorbed or such.
Funny thing, if you go back and watch that scene, Percy and Vex mime drinking the tea they prepared. I think Matt just didn't notice, but it would have been hillarious.
For anyone wondering, when vax is flying hasted, and takes a triple dash, he moves at a total (120 feet x 3 dash "actions" in a turn). 60 feet per second. (360 feet over 6 seconds) This maths out to roughly *40 miles per hour.* (65.8 kph). He has become bullet.
Dont forget that he can use the extra action he gets from Haste to Dash as well, for a quadruple dash, making it a ridiculous 480 ft in 6 seconds, or roughly 55 mph. Gotta go fast 😂
(Reaction thread) Honestly, Grog-and-Scanlan adventures are some of my favourite parts of this series. Of COURSE Grog couldn't resist ringing the bell, even when it was clear they had someone's attention already.
This is an interesting side to Percy as an inventor. I think a lot of innovators struggle with the idea that their work can be used for evil, as well as good.
I love how comfortable Keyleth seems with her and Vax's relationship now; how easily she seems to have fit into it. Grabbing onto him when the ship lists, blowing him a kiss before going Keyteor. They're really frickin' cute.
The image of them approaching the beach/trees - Grog the eagle carrying Scanlan, Vex in her witch hat, Vax speeding through the air carrying Percy, and Keyleth coming up like a water skier with no boat - is really entertaining.

My opinion of Keyleth keeps improving. She seems to be using her full caster spellcasting more effectively ever since they stopped using her 4th level spell slots to get a bear around.
I know I am replying to an old comment, but I totally agree. I also appreciate (even when she messes up) she she tries to use her spells in creative (positive creative, not game-breaking) ways. It has inspired me to super learn my own spells to try to think of fun & helpful ways to use them.

I think with Keyleth's scry on a storm lashed Ripley, the magical parting of the thunderheads for the airships safe passage, and the epic destruction of Ripely's ship, this was one of the most cinematic episodes yet! I absolutely love the way Matt weaves these stories. Also, Keyleth for MVP!

I love seeing consequences for allowing a villain to live rather than killing them. It makes the story and stakes more realistic
In my campaign I accidentally ran a situation similar to season 2 circus. My party let the devil live. Note in my campaign the devil was purely their to just make a show and escape his responsibilities in the nine hells. They burned the poor devils circus down and the devil is after my party.
This is what happens when your deception abilities get to high. Even you begin to believe your own stories.

Transport via plants + scry seems to have broken the game, Mercer is sending them to every treeless terrain he can think of: tundra, desert, ocean.
They could've used plain shift to go to Syngorn on the Feywild. Then used plane shift once more to go to Isle of Glintshore on the Material Plane.
I think that the most balanced method of instant travel is the wizard's teleportation circle and the spell teleportation because it can easily go wrong even with a scry. And teleportation circle is limited to usually highly developed city areas so the party may be able to get closer instantly for one slot less. It still affords the dm prep time.
@@theprisonerofthegoldenhead4030 Transport via plants as well actually as you have to see the tree in person to normally use it.

Somethign something simplest option is the answer?
He is not smart enough to over think a problem or idea

First Vax and Kashaw, now Vex and Damon. Scanlan is clearly the best matchmaker, who knows /exactly/ what his friends and allies want.

Art Against Anxiety except I'm pretty sure he didn't change it he usually says if he does. Matt usually follows the spells as written. But Marisha mixes up spells partly because druids have alot of them and Matt tries not to penalize her for messing them up
Whatever you guys do, no reading comments next episode. Just... don't.
Canadian Ninja seconded!!!
Thanks for the heads up
Are they anti-Keyleth comments, or spoilers?
Canadian Ninja thanks!
I'll take your word for it and I thank you.
That smile of Matt's @32:47 when Percy says "I made a terrible trade, I made the wrong trade." Is solid gold. That's 30 episodes of buildup right there :)
This whole entire battle was so epic. Vax flying with Keyleth and Percy with his gun and Vex with her broom and just HELL YES
For the entire first part, every time Matt says "secret tunnel" I start singing... in the mountain secret secret secret secret tunnel! Yeah!
justmemy1banana I just hear the lady from Nacho Libre.
"I forrrgive you."
Always, always, always.
you... are what is known to me as a quality human! very nice!
side note: "oh i remembered that part of the song, '*strum* and DIIIIIIIIIIEE"
"Nobody react to what i'm about to say... But i think that boy might be the avatar!"
*"facepalm"*
I felt for Matt, he probably spent ages making those other games and really wanted them to try them in the Casino
Nah there's a treasure trove of resources of games people have made. You just pick your faves and adjust a little bit.
@@laurens.6940 Cee Lo would be a really fun game to add to your dnd casino. It's rounds are like a minute long and you only need three d6.
You should check it out, a surprisingly fun game.
The entire time near the end I was totally on edge. Things were just going to well for them, I couldn't believe that things were working that well for them. This was a fantastic episode but I can't remember a single time in the entire history of the show that things have actually gone according to plan. Can't wait until next episode so I can finally relax!
Liam O'Brien's reactions and sound effects just make this video. The energy he exudes is so palpable and it makes everyone else's performance more exciting.
32:34 "Are You genuinely... afraid of her?" " YES. Very much so." "...Oh." That exchange with Gog really started to drive home to me how bad the next episodes might get for everyone. That woman really was up there with all the dragon confrontations.
And there was a wonderful whisper moment months beforehand when they were in Vasselheim and Percy went to Victor's, learned that Victor sold a dozen barrels of gunpowder, and then went to the Raven Queen.
"You're not that ugly, she just said that to hurt your feelings." Keyleth is sweet, literally to a fault.
She still called Ripley a POS though
@@unicornburger16 Yeah,s o there's that! XD
You don't have to be ugly to be ugly
"It's like Hannibal and Mr.T" OMG that was amazing!
Zakary He
"Can I just make, sort of a physiological check of his mouth shape?" - Died of laughter watching that!
3:25:15
Druids keep their mental stats (INT, WIS, CHA) when they use beast shape.
You know a mercs guild is powerful when they have a mysterious, cloaked, silent type as their... Errands boy.
I'm betting its a war forged.
2:07:12 Vex looking at Scanlan, seeing the pain in his eyes and immediately going soft gives me life
They tried to poison those Feywild pixies by accident. Talk about a diplomatic incident! 😂
HOW did Matt keep a straight face?
Certainly explains why that negotiation went south so quickly!
Also if they would have drunk it would have been brilliant... it might harm people, but it probably would kill a pixie
"Trust her she's crazy." ~Percival 2:52:37
Just another reason I love Taliesin.
I’m still cracking up at “The Meat Man Cometh”
Thank you Kyshakk for compiling this. It makes it so much easier when re-watching the episode. I wish I could pin this so that it would always be at the top.

1:15:00 The Deera?! That's the exact same one they took to Vasselheim from Emon! Yay for chance reunions with old acquaintances! xD
I love the quotes by the characters promoting the sponsor.
I know the airship has been a long time coming, but it has exceeded all my expectations for sheer awesomeness. So much great Mercering here.
'it wasn't me! It was a one-armed woman!' damn...the things D&D can make come to life xD is why i love this game
The amount of flirting between Laura and Travis in this episode is insane. I love them so much.
They obviously has themselves a good time that afternoon (Travis's comment at the beginning about Vex being to sleep with barbarians whenever she wants says enough) and it just spilled over into the game. Honestly, don't mind it at all lol.
Laura is so cute (physically and personality). Travis is so lucky
I swear, watching Liam react to Matt's new characters is the purest thing on earth 1:50:13
Ah thank you for this timestamp, I'm on ep 88 right now and Matt makes a face that reminds me of this character so I've been searching through the episodes cause its been one of my absolute favorite minor npcs. Cheers!!
VM: "Tera, you killed anyone yet?"
Tera shakes her head
M9: *shakes their head in future disappointment*
So... A month ago I was checking out what had top viewers on Twitch and I came across these guys.
Have never played D&D, had a really bad idea of what playing this meant. Today I caught up with the first episode I saw live and I'm trying to find people to play some RPG with me in Colombia.
I binged the shit out of this. Love these guys!
No puedo creerlo. Misma percepción y descubrirnquebhay gente de colombia me alegra montones
It's a bird! It's a plane! No! It's... A giant, flaming earth elemental? What the... BOOM!!! 💥
I love the concept of the elves of Syngorn being gifted a tea set creating poisonous tea by a diplomatic "ally" only to be like "meh, throw it in the closet".
I thought that Vox Machina obtained the poisoning teaset via General Kreig's basement scrounging?
@@Tombr4mb4they did in the basement.
So now it's time for that part in every JRPG where you finally get the Airship. Time to go backtracking and doing sidequests!
No time! This is a timed quest and if they wait too long they will lose one of their alliances!
I know this is old; I'm writing this for new readers.
lol saw the new sticker on the bottom of Sam's stein "You, spice?". lol
2:43:11 Holy shit. That was Liam as Grog. I thought it was an audio error when I heard grog's voice but Travis wasnt talking . shook.
I was looking at something else at this point & didn't know it wasn't Travis until I saw this comment.
Voice actors; right?
i aboslutely love how off the rails things go when scanlan and grog go off on thier own for a few min
the way Matt kept a straight face through the "Scrying Eyes" Accapella session shows how long this bunch have been together lmao.
