If there's a sale on cutting mats at your store, buy a smaller one too like a 10"x12" or 10"x 14". They're great for cutting out smaller pieces for quilting. They're WAY cheaper than rotating mats. Any mat that you can turn is a rotating mat. That way you won't be cutting in weird directions, like towards your body. Even the most experienced people still have the cutter veer away or slip over the ruler.
You can now also get mini rotatory cutters and mats from the dollar tree! I love the mini mats as they're super convenient for small quick cuts and are great for on the go travel sewing!
I like a 24” ruler because I can cut the width of quilting cotton without moving the ruler. A rotating mat is a great tool to keep you from twisting and turning or having to move the piece you are cutting. Great video! The 28 mm cutters are great for cutting curves.
You are always so very informative, one can definitely get cut very badly with a rotary cutter in just a second, if it slips SO PLEASE BE SAFE ALWAYS!!
7:32 Make sure that you pick up only ONE blade. The biggest mistake people make is to put 2 blades stuck together in the cutter. You'll learn fast that your cutter won't work.
Thank you so much for your videos! I am so excited to get my machine out and start trying some things with some more confidence thanks to your videos! Question: is there a top/bottom to the blade, when your changing it does one side need to face in/out? Suggestion: would you be able to explain other sewing tools and notions? First one that comes to mind is a finger presser and I have also seen a "rolling seam presser"...Do I need one or the other and how do I use it??
they make a spray called “Grippy” nonslip coating by odif. this product, sprayed on the bottom of acrylic rulers prevents them from slipping. making them similar to the quilter select rulers. it is amazing!
Thank you so much for the tutorial, I sliced 2 of my fingers recently with a rotary cutter, I didn't respect the blade and was rushing. I have found that I need to press down quite hard on my rotary cutter into my cutting board, is this normal?
Did you know there are electric rotary cutters? I was interested because of my shoulder replacement surgery last June. It is yet to arrive, but the replacement blades did and they Aren’t Round! I may regret the purchase!
I have been scared to death of a rotary cutter. Thank you for doing this.
Thank you for this. I never thought of saving the dull blades to use for paper or to use tweezers to pick up a new blade. 💡great ideas!
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you! Even though I have used those things before, I still learned a bunch!
Glad it was helpful!

It’s an omnigrid! Here’s the link! amzn.to/47qtu1s
How do you always keep it sharp! Mine never cuts completely even after a couple cuts of new one! Help!
Which one is best for left handed?
Very helpful! I wish I had seen something like this back when I was making masks during Covid.
Glad it was helpful!
What table do you use yo cut on?

I would say firmly but not too hard as you can lose control. You might try changing the blade if you’re pressing super hard.
@shesewsseams I will get some new blades, it was brand new though.

Is there a left hand rotary cutter? I would imagine that the blade needs to be facing a certain way to make it safe?
Could you please show me how to cut a LONG CUT ❓
😢 Don't have good luck at all❗
I ALWAYS wind up moving the ruler while I'm cutting 🥴
My rotary cutters never cuts all the way. New or not. Even different brands. I gave up.
🤗💕💞
My favorite rotary cutter has the quick change blade...less blade handling.
