  • In this episode our carport frame was delivered. Yes we plan on building a tiny house out of a carport frame. It is unconventional housing, and that is right up our alley. After all, we currently live in a converted School Bus, aka Skoolie! Minimalism is becoming a thing of the future and we are on board.

    Well I guess crazy is all perspective. To me living in a small apartment in a big building surrounded by other big buildings full of small apartments in the heart of some big city is crazy. Personally I lean towards country creativity over Babylon crazy every time. Just driving through the middle of skyscrapers gives me mild anxiety. Thanks for sharing your journey.

    Very attainable plan.I have looked for the cheapest way to build one also.If metal studding was used to frame out each side bay, landscape timbers could be used vertially to make the walls.A couple of small lenths of angle iron scibed in and screwed would insure a straight wall.Put in windows,doors,electric and plumling,sceen both sides and stucco with aircrete to finish.The ends,ceiling and even the floor over a crawl space could be done this way.Good luck.

    Genius. I’ve had the idea for 5 years wish full thinking.. now I have a 18x21 enclosed carport on the way hopefully installed in the next few weeks for my horses.. after I buy my own land to start my own homestead I will probably get a bigger carport for the horses and use the one on its way as my first tiny home cabin office 🤠

    I’m super excited for you guys! Nothing about it is weird or crazy!! 12 years ago before the “Tiny House fad” kicked in I was researching ideas on how to convert a shed into a mother-in-law quarters! I sure got some weird looks back then lol! Now me and Keith’s goal is to grow old in a tiny out too! It is an economical and FREEING lifestyle!! Can’t wait to watch the build!

    I just ordered my carport I getting the 30 by 18 with two 12 foot lean to well over 1200 square feet for 15900 can get much cheaper then that for a house will have 30 thousand in 10 acres and a 1200 square foot house can’t be that price in my book more people should think of this option I’m a bit lucky have already have a large concrete slab but for the same size to be build would be about 8 thousand hear

    Gr8 Idea...how's your house coming...can we have an update? I'm interested cuz I'm thinking about building a garage/ conversion house on my retirement bay property in Texas. I specked out a 22x56 9 foot high hurricane certified garage. including 1, 8x9 role up garage door, 2 30x80 entry doors, and 6. 30x 36 windows, with a 26 gauge vertical eve roof deliver and installed for under $15K. That's about $25K less than roofing and framing. I'll put it on a slab, and spray foam the ceiling and walls, and add 2x4 studs to add additional strength, and a surface to add more insulation and interior walls. Like to see how yours is coming.

    What the heck, I don't think living in the *Farm Bus* or a carport is crazy.
    In fact I lived in a 35 ft. travel trailer for several years back in the nineties, and being single, I had plenty of room. Whenever I needed to move, I just leveled it up on blocks and put the skirting back on, and there I was, home again.
    I also spent several years basically living in a Road Tractor, for some time, I didn't even have a "House". I even met one young couple that was Team Driving, and had their two children with them. They lived, and Home-Schooled the kids right there in the truck, while going down the road. So your idea is definitely not crazy.
    I've seen people living in tents, and even in those 8 X 8 metal storage sheds before. So either of your living quarters would be miles ahead of that.
    Welding the joints is a great idea, but I am curious how you intend to anchor it down. Possibly bolt it to a concrete foundation? You're gonna need some kind of a Sill Plate to keep those narrow bottom runners from settling into the ground. Especially once you start adding the weight of walls and interior fixtures. What are you planning for roofing material?
    I trust you will have the cameras running and be sharing the construction with all of us. At least I hope so. That way, if you get stuck on something, you will have us to possibly help find the best solution. At least it should be interesting reading the suggestions. Might even be entertaining. ;-)
    Have you considered a Storm/Root Cellar? I'm guessing you will be pouring some kind of concrete foundation, (though maybe not), and if you do, you might want to make it accessible from inside the mini-mansion.
    So many ideas, this is really going to be fun to see. Thanks for sharing.

    • @FarmAlarm
      @FarmAlarm  6 лет назад +1

      LOL thanks David. We don't think it's crazy either :-) yeah I remember you telling me that you had lived in a travel trailer, and yep if it's time to move just hit you up and go down the road. Man living in a road tractor sure sounds cramped. But it would also be a way to make the living! We plan on pouring a pad with a proper footing as well. And yes it will be bolted to the concrete with anchors. We share hope to document the entire process. And yes you are correct I'm sure we will have plenty of entertaining comments LOL. I would love to build a basement under it but that probably won't be happening. But a root cellar would be amazing. Thanks for watching and as always thanks for the great comment. *Mini* *Mansion* I love it!
