I've been suffering with reflux for a year now. My stories aren't as bad as you guys but I am still suffering. But I realize stress had ALOT to do with mine especially since I'm in college. So if anyone is like me and they have stress or anxiety issues that have not really been diagnosed just take time out for yourself treat yourself good. Take walks in the park if you can, buy candles, drink lots of water, become vegetarian lol I did, and just think happy thoughts even though your body isn't. I'm praying for all you guys and hoping it gets better for each and everyone of you.

I never felt an upset stomach, I did have burping. I had pain in the chest and constricted esophagus, very painful. I also had terrible muscle ache in the legs and cramps in fingers and toes. I stopped eating sugar first, the cramps stopped, a month later quit gluten, the leg pain stopped. Now if I get heart burn, I take a probiotic, mag. and an enzyme, and I use potassium. I am feeling fantastic. BP has gone down to 107/77, and I am back exercising again. Not bad for 72 and no meds.

Try eating red apples for your acid reflux. Apples are known to have alkaline effects which neutralizes acid in your stomach and esophagus. Use a fully ripe apple and make sure you remove the skin before eating it. 10 years ago I used to suffer from severe acid reflux and I don't suffer no more since I started eating red apples. It worked for me, my family, friends and co-workers.

Excellent advice! True “Healthcare” needs “Functional Medicine” physicians (Cause finders) … versus what we have today which is “Sick-care” with “Average physicians (Symptom fixers) … So, people are Sicker now than ever before! The Average physician helps make more “Customers” (stop calling them “patients”, do Plumbers have “patients”!) This ensures more profits for the sick-care Industry. Learn to heal yourself!

My doc put me on Prilosec when I was 20, then Nexium at 30 (when the Prilosec seemed to not work anymore). At 42, I discovered that I wasn't supposed to be on these type of meds for this long of a time...those are 6-week medications to help you ease some heartburn and get started on a healthier lifestyle, but sadly, most people I know, (like myself bk then) take them daily for years! I have never been so sick as when I got off of them, but I'm so glad I changed my lifestyle and my eating habits. I now take licorice tablets and they work wonders!! So do yourself a favor & get off the prescriptions, I promise it's worth it!

    1) Don't overeat.
    2) Don't drink water during reflux. Remember in high school chemistry what happened when you added water to acid?
    3) I take a cup of 2% milk to bed with me every night. If reflux strikes, a few sips will put it out. Dunno if it's the calcium in the milk or the 2% fat acting as a stomach-coating buffer - maybe both. Note: I've tried soy or almond milk that is advertised as having more calcium than dairy milk, but they do not work, so I tend to think milkfat helps.

I have been working on getting off the nexium for quite some time. I have tried apple cider vinegar with honey before my meal DGL tablets and digestive enzymes. For years I eat very bland baked or steamed foods fish and lots of veggies; kale, spinach, broccoli, brussel sprouts, cauliflower are my daily foods. I drink only water, green tea and 1 small coffee in the morning (my treat). I work out for 30 years and am my ideal weight for my height. I have been meditating since the 70's and am a past life regression therapist, medium and grief educator.
I am going to try all the products you suggest and will be sharing healing results. You do not mention elevating one's bed. I stop eating between 6-7 pm and only have some warm almond milk or water after that. I go to bed around 11:30-12 and sleep 8-9 hrs. These elevating products can be expensive but, would try anything to get off these drugs. what is your opinion on these elevating products and when trying all of your recommended products do I cold turkey stop the Nexium or do every other day? please advise
    Thank you
    Judy

20+ years of using Omeprazole: I'm on day 11 of quitting cold turkey. Last night I tried DGL Licorice for the first time, and had no pain. I couldn't believe it. I also began taking digestive enzymes and HCL before each meal, I'm on a low-carb diet, and I stopped drinking beer which is my biggest trigger. I am extremely optimistic that I can finally beat this. I have dealt with it since I was a child.

Dr Hyman ..I just love listening to you talk..regarding the acid reflux I do not feel any burning or any sensation whatsoever but my doctor diagnosed me with acid reflux...I explained to him that I had no symptoms whatsoever but he advised me that sometimes you don't feel any of the symptoms but can still have acid reflux? The reason I went to see him was because I had a dry cough and a wheezing sound which seemed to be coming from my throat or around my bronchial area. It always woke me up and then I couldn't get to sleep so of course I would have to stay for up for hours. Can you please tell me how to figure out this problem so I can fix it? Thank you so much!

I have tried using Protonix with Natures Lining (Zinc Carnosine) and it helps a lot. I recently started using DGL tablets and so far it helps with reducing acid reflux. I avoid coffee now (loved it miss it) and chocolate. I avoid any citrus fruits or fruits that are acidic. Raspberries are terrible for me but blueberries are great. I don't eat red tomato sauces but raw tomatoes are fine. Vinegar with salads is fine. Overly salty is a big no no. Spicy foods that are mild don't affect me at all which is weird. Spicy foods kinda help. Oatmeal is really bad for me. Gluten free bread helps but its too crumbly. I HAD A REALLY BAD HABIT OF LYING DOWN AFTER EATING. NOW I WAIT THREE HOURS. I try really hard to not skip meals. In the past I could but I cant do that anymore.

I had really bad gas pain from the gas building up in my chest. At one point doctors thought the pain might be from a heart attack. I had a nuclear stress test and they found no problems with my heart. (THANK GOD!!!) The diagnosis was acid reflux. On my way home I stopped by my health food store to ask what to do for reflux. They asked about the water I was drinking. All I drank was distilled & purified water. NOT EVEN ONE gas attack after adding minerals to my water or drinking artesian water!

So what can you eat? I don't eat fried food. I only have 1 can of soda a day now.
I love tomatoes and tomato based and spicy food. After eliminating food with any taste at all and no coffee, no citrus, what is left? Could you give me some examples? I need help bad. I've had very bad dermatitis on my face arms and legs ever since that I have been taking Prilosec and now Protonix for 2 years. I have to get off this junk! It seems like everything causes me to get bad reflux including water and I have to get it out of my stomach to get relief.

This was very helpful. I have had acid reflux for as long as I could remember. I have tried digestive enzymes and vinegar and they seem to make the situation worst. The only things that worked for me were Prilosac and Nexium. However, I will go on the diet you recommended in the video.

From what I hear digestive enzymes will burn temoarly depending how much damage was cause reflux. Enzymes make your stomach more acidic and help food break down.

I had my first acid reflux problem about 3 mos. ago- had too much saucy spaghetti- have even had some regurgitation at night, since then been very careful with what I eat- very bland food now. But still don’t feel I have my normal appetite...lost 10 lbs. by eating less and no soda or fatty foods like pizza, but why don’t I have my normal appetite?

According to my Dr the LES (Lower Oesophagial Sphincter) can soften too much due to excessive coughing or straining when lifting heavy objects perhaps when younger. seems to effect individuals differently. Sliding Hiatal Hernia's also complicate this condition so it's not strictly diet. PPI's are dangerous and don't necessarily work for everyone but do give relief. Some Drs belief that low stomach acid causes the LES to malfunction too by opening spontaneously and releasing acidity into the Oesophagus which is abnormal and recommend Betaine Hydrochloride Acid tablets for this condition. I wish that there were exact answers on the correct way to resolve this problem once and for all! There probably are but the medical profession are not sharing them 🤷🏻‍♀

I am vegetarian, eat very clean (no processed or fried food), I don’t eat at least 4 hours before bed, I’m healthy weight, take all of the supplements and probiotics recommended for reflex, I exercise, I’ve been tested for parasites and h-pylori and I’m negative, don’t drink or smoke and I’ve been on a bland diet for over a month. I still suffer from reflux every day. I truly don’t know what else that I can do at this point. I’m sure that there are others like me who do everything humanly possible to prevent reflux but it still happens. Sometimes there are physiological problems that cause it.

I also have Lyme Disease. I tried all the different GERD drugs and they actually made my symptoms worse and had the worst cramping on them than off. I also regurgitated most foods and drinks. I was so bad I ended up having a Fundoplocation surgery. It worked for many many years but has now recently and is even worse. Most times it feels like my stomach is full of acid and is felt right up my throat and alot of time is nausea. Also at times it feels like a fetus is pushing right up high in my chest. The other night the acid feeling felt like it was all in my whole torso, and I felt like I was gonna drown. Weird sensation that was. Pretty much anything triggers it now, even heat rubs and essential oils. I temporarily stopped my Ceylon Tea and just having Rooibos now. Yesterday I started Digestive Enzymes and whether coincidental or not, I am feeling a little better.

I do every thing right with food and life style, But did not realize that I was too much anxious about getting few things done without my knowledge. I just have reflex for the first time in life for three days continuously with hiccups. Little bit of raw sugar helped get rid of Hiccups if they prolonged for more than an hour. Reflux got better slowly after I learnt to deal with anxious taking deep relaxed conscious easy breaths. Also check your mood while eating you should fell like eating food and be there with you mind while eating. Little bit of practice is needed.

just remember acid reflux is triggered by different acidic foods, not all will trigger it, go cold turkey for the first month cutting out all acidic food then add in slowly those you cut out and see what triggers. I have LPR and I did it like this and found that garlic, cold water and caffine were causing flare ups.. but still need to take some antacid as its not fully cured.

thanks for the info ...but most videos on acid reflux forgot the most important step which is: DONT DRINK WATER 30min BEFORE OR DURING OR 30min AFTER A MEAL...cuz water dilutes the acid in the stomach.. this great advice is from Dr.John Bergman ...checkout his videos :)

I use to do this, not drink with meals, on the advise of a NP Doctor. I never had GERD until within this last year, I started to drink before, after and during meals. I forgot or didn't remember why. Now I truly understand why. I was just diagnosed today but refused a prescription that took four weeks to see results, suppressed stomach acids, effects the Kidneys and would have a bad effect if discontinued. There is a lot of good info on RUclips to try before any RX. Thank you for this reminder Firas. Peace

No mention of Apple Cider Vinegar here. Does that mean its not good to take when you have acid reflux?

    • @Spats2Bats
      @Spats2Bats 6 лет назад +2

Apple cider vinegar helps those with too little acid in their stomach but if you find yourself burping after a minute or even less than it might be from having too much acid. I thought it would help me as well so I bought some to try out. Only took one shot glass of it before I felt burning and burping. Needless to say I was very confused but figured out that it might be from abnormal amounts of acid. Best not to try it if you don't know what level you have, unless for a test purpose in which case use VERY small amounts.
