Superman is a fictional superhero appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics. The character was created by writer Jerry Siegel and artist Joe Shuster, high school students living in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1933.
Best way to put it. Superman is the swiss army knife when it comes to superpowers. Someone like the flash is a scalpel being more skilled and precise with his speed. This analogy was used in a comic before just can't remember when.
Superman isn't a swiss-army knive, he's a military grade multi-tool and each tool cost $1 billion in R&D to develop. Dude's just too OP please nerf.

That was the perfect panel to use to illustrate how the flash began to be portrayed as faster than Superman. He basically tells Kal-El that he wasn't taking their previous races seriously - and then blasts off and leaves Superman in the dust.

I think what they might have meant by outrunning infinity is that superman flew so fast that he went faster then the rate of expansion of the universe. The universe is not physically infinite but it is expanding so quickly that it's rate of expansion is faster than light. If you were able to move faster than that, you could theoretically reach the edge. Just a thought :D

Not intending to contradict you, but afterwards the flash spoke to green lantern about the race telling him that he hated how superman felt the need to hold back during their race and that he should let loose once in a while. His words not mine. Im not implying that superman is faster or even the same speed, but he isn't endlessly slower like you suggest

Superman has no known limits, he always gets the job done and is crucial to the multiverse, He is beyond mind bending.
Superman flew from Vega to Earth, which is 25 light years away, in a span of 10 or 15 minutes, which means that mathematically flew about 52 million times faster than the Light.
It flew from the limit of the universe to the earth in 60 days, without sunlight, which means that it only used power reserves, it is basically far from being its limit, and as it has been confirmed that a DC universe has hundreds of trillions of years diameter light, then Superman easily flew thousands of quintillions of times faster than light.
Even Superman can react faster than an attosecond, which is crazy since an attosecond is 1 trillion times faster than a second.

Wally outran instant teleportation across the universe with a boost from earth and kwyzz. Barry and Wally having a race almost destroyed the Multiverse because of the energy they produced.
Wally OUTRAN THE SPEEDFORCE, literally outran the source of all kinetic energy in the entire Multiverse combined, basically outran infinite speed in a higher dimension.

There was something about superman and shazam destroying reality blitzing missiles in the time it takes for a single human heartbeat, i think they basically spent the whole comic in slow motion i think, i can be very wrong though.
Superman also once went so fast that he travelled to the 5th dimension to stop 5th dimensional imps from fighting, superboy prime did something similar too.
Superman also went through like 9+ stars then went so fast that he gathered up enough force to basically one shot the World Forger (which was apparently the fastest he ever went according to the comic), the artwork, story and thought put into that part of the comic was probably one of my favorites.
My dad (born 1948) was into comics as a kid. He said that in one of his comics, they explained that The Flash was faster because when Superman reached a certain velocity, he would begin to travel back in time. The Flash could exceed this velocity and choose to not to.
I'm sure this has been retconned to heck and back, but I think that's an interesting limitation.

I would love to see a video on this, too.
I can give you a general idea.
White Lanterns have the power of all the other Lantern colors. They can make things out of solid Light, as strong as whatever emotion they use.
Most Lantern colors have a special power. White Lanters can use all of them. Red Rage can shoot plasma out of their mouths, and their constructs melt the other colors' contructs. Orange Lanterns can create copies of people they kill that mostly think on their own. Blue Lanterns can power up Green Lanterns, and can shut down Red rings safely. Indigo can use other nearby colors and teleport. Violet can link people in love, and have Crystal constructs.
White Lantern feats are the feats of other Corps. Powering a star for 8 Billion years, traveling 80% light speed and trough wormholes, etc.
Kyle Rayner recently gained the power of the Life Equation, the source of all life in the universe and one third of DC Comics' God.
However, he recently lost all of that White power in Rebirth. Whatever Doctor Manhattan is doing to keep the universe how it is, it's stronger than a White Lantern.

No, Superman isn't a Speedster.
Speedster are technically speed magicians, literally requiring a pseudo-magical force to go fast. Superman is just built to move fast with no Speed Force enhancements.
But it'd be both stupid and cool if Superman was endowed with the Speed Force.
I mean normies already think Superman is OP, but imagine him endowned with a potential to outrun death, at least an aspect of it.

Are they lovers? We don't know. If I had to fancy a guess, it would probably be that they both sit and watch as creation and the people in it happen but we know by Rob's videos that the anti-monitor takes a more "hands on" approach than the monitor.

my favorite moment was in flash rebirth when they were racing and supes stating he's won races with flash and barry just rebuking him by saying "those were for charity clark" and leaving him in the dust to the point that supes just gave up

Even though the Flash will always be faster Superman can run and fly at similar speeds but since he isn't protected by the speed force, the force of running at that speed would end up destroying things as he runs which is why superman always rises up when flying so he can go at full speed without destroying anything. The speed force protects speedsters so that air friction wouldn't effect them and it always protects what they run on and the people being held.

Several questions about who could possibly tap into the Speed Force.
What would happen if characters that could copy, steal or mimic powers or abilities like Parasite or Amazo did so to the Flash? Would they be able to tap into The Speed Force as well or is it exclusive to the Flash family? Also what about the villain Everyman, he can transform into a perfect copy of someone, he even once tricked Hal Jordan's Green Lanterns ring once. Could he, if he transformed into the Flash also tap into the speed force? Also what about Reality Warping characters like Mister Mxyzptlk, could they just snap their fingers and tap into, control or just will the Speed Force out of existence?
Any helpful answers will help, thanks.

It does make sense, superman is not an earthling. The word "man" is used to describe a human male. So when they describe flash as the fastest man alive its technically correct. Even if superman was/is faster. Superman was named before he was introduced as an alien. So now as and alien he could be the fastest being in the universe or fastest being alive. He is not limited by the word man. Even though is in is hero name.
His first appearance was in 1938 as Super"MAN" and also as the "MAN" of steel 1986 . The actual creator choosed to named him as the Super"MAN" and the"MAN"of steel , not super-being/alien or the being/alien of steel . Ofc we know that he is extraterrestrial , but creator referred to him as the super MAN , and that being said the flash is the fastest MAN alive and superMAN is included in the word man . Short version of this goes like this : the half of his title is the word "man" ( and btw flash can outrun death when superman cant [ read "final crises 2of7" ] )

I was always confident that to be classified as a Speedster you had to tap into the Speed Force but man did not know it's history.

To me a speedster is someone who's primary ability is super speed or anything related to super speed, this term doesn't just apply to the flash but anyone who can move super fast: Quicksilver, Daphne Millbrook, Danny hilltop, Edgar and Peter Patrelli. The flash's primary ability is super speed and all of his sub powers are derived from his ability to access the speed force and harness the energy it provides him for various (usually speed based) effects. A person like Daphne however doesn't use the speed force to run fast, rather her body is naturally adapted for super speed, I use the term "natural speedster", to describe any speedster who's body is naturally enhanced to suit the needs of their abilities. The Flash family (with the exception of the original Jay Garrick) are not natural speedsters since they derive their powers from an outside source. normal speedsters are biologically enhanced while speed force speedsters are enhanced by the speed force.

I started reading the Flash and Superman in the late 1950s. It seems like they have slowed down and dumb downed both of my hero's thru the years. It seems like they have gone from close to the speed of light to barely faster than a speeding bullet, and probably not even that fast. I wish I still had my comics from the 50's and early 60's but my mom gave them away when I left home. Thanks for sharing.

Someone having more strength doesn't always mean that that someone will 100% win.
For example, Thor repeatedly pounding Hulk's kneecaps or breaking the ground so that he falls down or flying him into the sky and throwing him into space etc.

Superman is a character that can practically do anything if pushed. If everything was put on the line the practical becomes reality. so if it was on the line that he had to beat flash in speed he would if it was to save lives.

You sound as stupid as Han Solo saying he did the Kessel Run in 12 parsecs (hint parsec is a measure of distance, not time). You might as well be saying that I'm faster than a year, that makes no sense. So now that we got that out of the way. Of course we can comprehend how fast the flash is. It's called math and physics. You merely take a segment of time, and the distance traveled during that time. From there it would be easy to convert that to miles per hour or kilometers per hour. Though in the flash's case, he covers so much ground we may need convert that to astronomical units per hour or even light years per hour.
Someone did the math of the issue where he made that quote, I believe and calculated that the Flash traveled 2,482,669,000,000,000,000 miles per second. Just a reminder that the speed of light is "only" 186,00 miles per second. Which would put the flash at 422,962 light years per second. So within .25 of a second, Flash could run across the entire milky way.
To put it another way, assuming the universe is expanding at the speed of light, that would mean that it would be 27.64 billion light years across. So it'd take the flash 65,301 seconds to cross the universe. Or just over 18 hours.
Impressive for sure. Incomprehensible? Hardly.

I think you talked about doing something like this before but I would love to see more vids like this where you discuss powers in depth (like this vid or the ones on the ImaginaryAxis youtube channel) or specific characters or maybe even more obscure characters (like the omega level vids, mind blown by the info on Gambit btw) or even conceptual stuff like history within comics (like iconic writers or artists and their work over the years or general history within different comics universes). You could even throw this stuff under a playlist called something like RobKnows or Comics101 (I'm bad at naming stuff but you get my point lol). Just throwing some ideas out there but I'm down for whatever when it comes to comics and games, keep up the great work man!

The stories of Superman and the Flash were continually changed in order to “make” a choice between the two. Any true DC fan knows that no one will ever be above Superman. Everything past silver age Superman became unbelievably slower and less powerful. That’s why the original writers were fired because they made Superman unbeatable. So when you go by the original intent of Superman. He is the fastest and just the best in general. But do to story changes the flash has become faster. So really the argument holds no water because the story needed to be changed in order to make an argument. Nothing will ever beat Silver age Superman and back. Comics have just gone way too far away from the original content and intent.

Rob, the Real answer should have been no one really knows because if Flash gets his speed from the speed force and Superman doesn’t then Superman’s speed must come from his strength or from the same place Gladiator (from Marvel Comics) gets his capabilities from (which is psionic)... therefore, if Superman is basically always holding back and has no limit to his strength and endurance (writers can write his limit to fit any calamity) then if he needed to save the universe and that required that he must do a feat that required him to be faster than Wally West or Barry Allen then he can... he is the first superhero so that’s respect. I remember on Smallville when lex made Flash run in circles and only Clark was able to catch him to save him. I really want to see a crisis in a story arc in comics that required Superman to fight an ultimate champion for the sake of the universe and of course Earth, or win a decathlon or something... and the entire Justice League had to pick Superman to represent our Champion, but because he always hold back or always uses his powers in ways we are accustomed to seeing, the writers make it such so that he is trained by each Justice League member to use his abilities to the Max... so, Flash would train Superman to use his super speed better (like become intangible by vibrating better, better flurries from all directions and by momentum building from circling the earth in seconds with each flurry punch, train with Martian Manhunter to understand his super mind psionic abilities and telepathy like he did in “Superman vs the Elite”... work out with Wonder Woman and Batman to increase combat skills... work out methods to increase strength and zantana and dr fate to learn counter measures to magic because really, Dr. Strange is just a man who studied magic to be come the best so any man could do that including Superman... this scenario would produce a comic that may finally show Superman as truly the most powerful superhero of all time!
I always figured Superman could fly through space faster than Flash can run, but on foot across the ground Flash would win hands down. I liked that one time Superman brought up all the times where they tied or Superman almost won, and Flash was just like, "Yeah, Clark that was just for charity..."
As literally stated by one of the writers, paraphrasing: "Superman is not meant to lose, because he is an idea. Therefore he will always be as powerful as he needs to be, to defeat his opponent. The challenge for Superman was never about winning, that part is given. His challenge was _how_ he won, can he win without sacrificing the ideals he stand for?" It basically means that Superman will always win if that is what he needs to do. So no matter how strong his opponent is, he will somehow rise to the occasion and overcome that opponent. In other words: The Flash probably is faster than Superman if they ran against other people, or alone. However if they raced against each other... Make no mistake about it, Superman _will_ win that race, every time.

Space/distance was the variable that was often left out of those previous races between Flash and Superman, which why they tied quite often. Given a far enough distance, Flash would have beaten Superman easily then, just as he can now. But you're right: DC wanted Superman to always be at the top of the pyramid. It's why my personal nickname for him has always been Mr. PIS. Lately, though, Batman is vying strongly for that title. Every time I see a Batman vs. Superman fight I shake my head. With Clark's speed he literally could crush Batman's skull in a fraction of a hummingbird's heartbeat. But.... comics...!
Prolly already said, but in the original "flash rebirth" supes was tryna catch Barry and said"stop, you know I can keep up with you, we've raced countless times and I've won a few" and Barry replies with something like "those were for charity" or those were just for fun. Then zoomed off leaving full speed Superman as tho he were just standing still
Point to a story from roughly ten or so years ago. Flash Rebirth. When Supes tried to go on a run with Barry and Supes mentioned that the two used to have races for charity... and Barry said 'they were for charity', and then Barry just completely blows Supes out of the water.

ALSO YOU FORGOT: When speedsters run, they slow down time.(manipulate it) while superman just moves fast, to him, things become blur due to going so fast.

I enjoyed this video, I've always had the answers that were explained here but I haven't ever actually had the reasoning behind it so I felt my answers were wavy. It's nice to hear the reasoning behind the answers I knew before. As well as finding out other interesting things I didn't know and having them fleshed out as well.
One thing that never made sense to me as a flash fan was how does being doused in chemicals and hit by lightning at the same time create an infinite energy supply that expands across all of time and space?? And how does that infinite energy source then somehow become a heaven of sorts for those that tap into its power?

Christopher Reeve's Superman seems like he flew way faster than 2000 miles per second when he turned back time flying around the earth. He was circling the earth multiple times per second.
