I absolutely love how Mark is so strong and so accomplished, yet he doesn't act like he knows everything. He lets his guests come and teach without interruptions and even learns himself.
Idk if Mark will ever realize that losing silent Mike and Cubby was absolutely devastating. Mike was always the best part of any video or podcast and Jim is one of the best producers/cameraman in the fitness industry. I will forever rewatch these old videos and I hope they never get taken down. Thank you for making powerlifting a part of my life since 2008.
Did they not part on good terms? I’m kinda late to the party as far as super training is concerned but I see that Mike has moved on to his own thing? I’m just curious if you could inform me.
@@CankleCankle yes they did part on good terms. which makes him seem like an idiot. talking down on mark even tho it was a case of mike wanting to do his own thing instead of staying in the shadow
You can definitely tell from the interactions that Silent Mike and Mark Bell have had sex before. Nothing wrong with that, but it's just a little something I've noticed.
Savage1032 Well, doing meets in the wrong weight class to prove his superiority to Zahir and talking shit about slingshot for no reason isn't arrogance?
It's a great video. I've been doing his belt trick on my squats and deads and it works (Eric L recommends the high belt on squats too). The 'falling back' move before standing up on the dead helped me get a new PR and felt awesome and made the weight feel lighter to me. What a difference proper form can have, even if it's just the little things they need to fix.
This channel is just awesome. Not just for the training and lifting advice but also because these people are genuinely interested in learning from each other
It really depends on your body composition. Rarely can you look at a professional strongman’s technique and say, that’s exactly what I need to do. That being said it’s great to explore different cues and methods to help round out you athletic prowess.
Best deadlift cues ever Sirs!! i already feel like my deadlift is goin up by 50 lbs just by incorporatin these tips and practicing them all that 500lbs aint far now!! i am 161lbs right now trainin for aesthtics but i believe in powerbuilding and currently doin 405lbs 7 sets for 3 never went for that one rep max.
hips shooting up, besides starting postion could be WEAK HIP FLEXORS. When your legs straighten and the bar doesn't move you are actually opening up the quad/torso. What muscles brace the quad/torso angle and prevent it from straightening out? Hips and abs.
Maybe a stupid question, but how exactly can I have straight shins, if I have to bend at the knees to grab the bar? referring to the ''trick'' at 18:02
Hawthorne and Leeman are both beasts, but Hawthorne stresses having higher hips and not touching the bar to your shins while Leeman suggests sitting back into it more and using your weight to create pressure as well. How do you know which technique works better for you as a beginner? I'm experimenting with both but at this point I can't tell between the two which one is a stronger position for me. I have a feeling in the long run it's going to be Hawthorne's technique because my build is more like his and I feel like therefore our leverages would be more similar. Leeman is more than twice my/our size and him sitting back into it and using his weight would create massive pressure, so I feel like my smaller frame wouldn't be able to get the gains from that kind of technique. Would that be a good educated guess or are there other factors I'm forgetting?
The feet slightly come out tip HELPED ALOT cause if my feet are perfectly straight my hips don't get involved much at all but turning my feet out slightly helped me move my hips a lot easier
This technique helped a lot today. Laying back until just before falling and pulling bar straight to shine helped. Awkward at first but improved greatly. Performed with closer stance and grip, felt like I had more control. Being very tall 6'3, rounding my back is still a minor issue the further into the set just gotta practice concentration
That guys a freak of nature. I wouldn't listen to anything he said on the deadlift because his natural leverages are so weird he couldn't help an everyday dude with regular leverages. Maybe that's why Omar Isuf and Pete Rubish and Silent Mike, regular-seeming dudes are popular. They're relateable.
awesome video. enjoyed it much. i am 1.89m and somehow even when i bend my knees and stuff i cant grab the bar without bending my back. im simply too high from my long legs. maybe i should try to sit back next time
My touch n go for 8 to 12 reps is always 30kg below my max weight as I progress my max weight singles I train my 8 to 12 reps in the 30kg less than my max range, but I get both in the same workout to progress my forced strength and volume.
I love touch and go deadlifts, it feels like they are great at building muscle. Also feels safer, since you are naturally tight if you force the exentric, and just dip the bar. Only problem i have with it is that i can do 5 reps at 95% of my max, so it feels like to does not transfer very well into one rep max, as Leeman states. A couple of weeks before maxing, i start doing regular ones, to get tight from the floor again.
Any suggestions of how to balance out conventional/sumo deadlifts? I'm 5'7 190lbs and sumo deadlifts are my most comfortable lifts and I can do heavier weight but conventional still feels way less comfortable and weaker by over 50lbs.
I think the high belt position works for Leeman because he is able to protrude his belly just that much further and the belt keeps his belly big/low/condensed which moves his center of gravity forward and creates a big spring, much like a slingshot for the bench, out of the hole. This is probably why he is so posteriorly dominant.. It definately works for him, I don't see it working for Mike though, maybe if he worked for a long while changing a lot about his form.
I don't think so. IMO he is putting his belt there, cuz that's where you can push out the hardest. If you put it low, it just runs in your legs and offsets you. Also his stick analogy.
The problem here is, George has long arms and a short torso, so its easy for him to come into this position. Silent Mikke has more like short arms and a long torso, so he cannot do that same thing. His hips would be way too low. Thats something that wasnt emphasized. Oh 17:15 never mind lol

I like how serious Leeman is about teaching people. He is so professional here, even for a young man.
Fantastic viewing, guys.
damn audio quality is so good I can hear George struggle to breathe every five seconds
How lucky are we?
They want us to learn how to breath properly

Leeman is amazing coach.
And dropping amazing quates all the time :D
BEST ADVICE EVER!! MY DEADLIFT WENT UP 80 LBS!
This Leeman fellow is brilliant. Love this.
Really appreciate these videos, thank you SuperTraining!
good clear instruction. interesting work with the belt.
george is a very good deadlifter indeed. the video of him and elliott hulse is awesome too. very informative.
I always love watching George's videos
Thank you so much for posting this! this was INCREDIBLY helpful!!
The belt placement is a really good tip. Feels so much more secure than a normal placement
George is the reason why I went from pulling sumo to conventional. After trying this technique, my deadlifts felt amazing!
I also noticed that Brian Shaw sits back more into his deadlift too. I think I am guilty of deadlifting with my hips too high. I need to work on that.
It really depends on your body composition. Rarely can you look at a professional strongman’s technique and say, that’s exactly what I need to do. That being said it’s great to explore different cues and methods to help round out you athletic prowess.
Anyone know the song at 0:21
Thanks for the advice, George is a good teacher, I learnt a lot!
This is amazing! Fantastic tutorial! Only an inch shorter than Leeman with long arms so will be trying these for sure!
Awesome video. George is very eloquent.
Why did the video have to end?
Superb stuff - thanks George..

Kenneth Perng what about the conventional technic of Rippetoe and stronglifts
There's no such thing as "the perfect position" it's all personal preference

+kyff232 I don't how some back rounding is bad as long you can lift the weight without grinding
I am always pretty damn impressed when Leeman does his prepull and the entire weight comes off the ground, even with 800 pounds
The best explanation of deadlift
I still come back to this video for some inspiration!!!!!

Hey Mark, have you ever did a video on how to sumo deadlift with Dan Green?
some good explanations here, good stuff.

Just wondering the weight of the bar. If the plates say 55IB on them is the bar under 45IB? Maybe i'm just dumb.
