It details the abuse of child stars and crew members, and the toxic culture on Nickelodeon shows in the late 90's and early 2000's. Drake Bell is one of the big names in the documentary that tells his story for the first time. But has the industry changed? What more needs to be done? We're joined by professor Kaitlynn Mendes from Western University, who has extensively studied gender inequality and sexual violence. I wasn’t an actor or anything, but the support for the abuser is why I never came clean about what happened to me. I was so afraid I wouldn’t be believed. The people who matter believe me and that’s more than enough to help me heal. I’m so sorry for all the actors/actresses who had to endure such horrors and for the countless more who can relate. I believe you.

This is so upsetting, and I wish nothing but the best for Drake. He paid the price. His mother made the terrible mistake of assuming he was in good hands, despite the warning from her ex-husband. Parents have to be involved with their kids and if it doesn't work then the child's career has to wait until they are old enough to go out on their own. This poor person was left in the hands of someone that was pen pals with one of the worst serial killers in history!!! This video makes it look like the father was allowing the sleepovers to happen, but that isn’t the case. If you actually watch the whole documentary, you’ll see that the father kept Drake away from Peck, but Peck manipulated Drake into moving with his mother (who was divorced from his dad and lived far away). The father warned the mother to keep Drake away from Brian Peck, but eventually Peck was able to convince the mother to let Drake stay over at Peck’s house

I’m so sorry you all went through this. It induces shame for me and surely others, for supporting, romanticizing and adoring people like Drake as individuals and in character, when we were growing up. In my experience shows like this were an escape from my own abusive home life, but now as we are all older and that you have all finally been able to speak out and (hopefully) prioritize your mental health and well being as a human, outside of any character roles, aside from being ‘celebrity’. You are human. You did not deserve this. This was not your fault. You absolutely deserve justice, and he absolutely deserves punishment - much longer than 16 mo. People like that are evil, a menace to society in intrinsically demeaning and destructive ways. Manifesting a difference and justice, and healing for every Individuals that have been victimized.

I was only like 5 years old at the time and I didn't watch nickelodeon shows till I was like 11 so I never watched Drake and Josh. But I just read the charges online. All he got was 16 MONTHS??? 16 freaking months and man was free, how did ANYONE think that was ok and how could ANY person write letters of support for someone who SA a child multiple times in many ways? As a woman who did come out about a family member and was not believed, I shut my mouth about the man who raped me as an adult. Why? Shame. I didn’t want ppl to know. Fear. I was scared nobody would believe me. My boyfriend at the time , who found out, didn’t believe me (I was injured from the assault). Why wouldn’t people believe me you ask? Why didn’t they with my family member? Also this one here was in the industry and powerful. Nobody would have taken my side even if they had been present and witnessed it. Drake Bell, one of the beloved stars of The Amanda Show, Drake and Josh, and Superhero Movie explains in more detail about the sexual abuse he suffered from a dialogue coach named Brian Peck. This incident occurred back in 2001 when Drake was 15 years old.
According to Drake, Brian manipulated him to believe that Drake’s dad was interfering with his success. This gave more time for Brian to spend with Drake. Brian even wanted to play Drake’s stepfather Walter Nichols on Drake and Josh before Drake spoke up to his mom about what Brian did to him and Drake’s mom made sure Brian was arrested.
As an 11 year-old kid, I loved watching The Amanda Show, Drake and Josh, and Zoey 101, I was so naïve and inexperienced, it never occurred to me that Drake was suffering mentally and emotionally while he was starring in a show that made me laugh.
This tragic story is one of the reasons why my family is disappointed that I’m getting a Bachelor’s Degree in Film. The devil knows where to hide around every corner. It doesn’t matter how glamorous that location can look like. The reality here is that I have to trust the lord, I shouldn’t depend on just what I know. I have to think what he wants for me as I take my next step and he will help me go the right way.
Ever since I was 13 years old, I felt envious when I saw young teens on Nickelodeon, Disney Channel and other movies. I was born with Cerebral Palsy. I use a posture control Kaye walker and a Rovi x3 power wheelchair for mobility. I figured having a small career on Nickelodeon or Disney Channel could help improve my social practice and inclusion. My high school refused to make accommodations for me to take acting classes. Now I understand why my mom and the majority of my family was so hesitant about paying for my classes and my headshots. I'm 29 years old. I’m currently finishing up my Bachelor’s Degree in Film at Bridgewater State University by this Christmas. If I was 13 again, I would sign with Disney Channel over Nickelodeon.

If a parent cannot be with their kids while working in an environment like this, they need to keep their kids away from it and wait till they are old enough.
