Not really. You’re literally conflating. What bad people did behind-the-scenes to actors or children with the actual content of the show, which is really stupid. That’s not evidence to show had bad themes and was inappropriate for children. Parents can say their kids can watch or not watch whatever they want though. I don’t have a problem with that. I’m just saying, nobody proved anything about the show itself being inappropriate. that’s like saying you can’t listen to Michael Jackson music if you believe him molested children. His child molestation accusations have nothing to do with the morality or quality of his music. And I’m not asking someone to make the argument that shows were inappropriate for kids. I’m not arguing against that I’m arguing against, but someone said the evidence was that the Mom’s were right

Not saying parents were bad for letting their kids watch it, but it is completely understandable that parents wouldn't let their kids watch it. And the fact that the men writing the shows were creeps does reinforce the possibility that they were intentionally putting under-the-radar sexual themes in the shows.

It’s sad how much Dan Schneider has gotten away with everything. The focus is always on Disney, but rarely on Nik and especially all he’s done. There are so many things that come out from side actors and extras, even those that never made it to tv but revealed just how creepy and uncomfortable this man made the casting process.
For instance one girl auditioned to just be a side character in an episode or 2. Yet for unspecified reasons she had to show up in a bikini despite there being zero pool/water scenes. She showed up in the bikini and they gave her a towel and told her “she’ll need it later in case the producer wants to see more.” It was at that point her mom had the presence of mind to say no way and they left.

I fell into a deep depression and was in and out of psych wards as a young adult from the trauma. I don’t use the word “trauma” lightly I assure you, no other way to describe my childhood. But these child stars literally don’t have a chance unless they have an adult in their lives to look up to and to mold them. The thing about Drake is that he (possibly) is a victim of media trashing. There’s conflicting reports about what happened between him and that minor, but my understanding is that there are witnesses who say nothing happened other than text messages, which he plead guilty to because he didn’t know how old she was. He’s also dealt with other legal trouble (which I don’t know too much about without looking into those situations). The bottom line? This guy has been through it in the last several years. He’s made social media comments and dealt with scandals that turned people’s heads and I don’t blame them for their mixed feelings.
What many people don’t know is that he did tweet something (which is now deleted) in which he basically claimed to have dirt on Nickelodeon. There were also many people online who speculated that he was the minor in the Brian Peck case. But does the media talk about child abuse on these tv networks? Probably not until the last couple years I’d say and now more so recently than ever. Frankly, I’m shocked that the mystery guest for Quiet On Set is Drake Bell. I did not think it would be anyone that I would know and my jaw was on the floor when I found out.
Now more than ever, we can’t trust the media to tell the truth. We have to do our own research and be careful of the entertainment we consume. I’m probably one of the last millennials before gen z and even I’m sickened looking back at the stuff I watched and realizing just how inappropriate they were. I hope Drake and many other child stars have their day and I’m looking forward to seeing what this docuseries will bring to light. It’s long overdue.

      Is that not contradictory?
I did happen to do a cursory search online and found that he had physical/emotional abuse allegations, grooming/child abuse/child guilty sentences (and after which his juvenile victim called him the "epitome of evil"), suicide threats, and I stopped there, as that was quite enough for me to determine that this was not a good person by any means. Whilst it is unfortunate that he were abused on set on in childhood, it does not excuse his going on to abuse others. That is ALWAYS a choice and it was a choice that I, a victim, NEVER made. And I get tired of people trying to justify and excuse horrific behaviour on childhood abuse/trauma like you are doing here in addition to claiming ignorance of his other actions and then throwing in a conspiracy theory regarding choices that he willingly made to harm others without abandon and apology.

I don't think it's necessarily "child acting" that is the problem. It's probably something more akin to "child getting rich" which screws up the dynamics of the family and their own rearing.
Also, just because you are a child actor, doesn't mean you are necessarily guaranteed to be an adult actor. Children, in general, are pretty bad actors. They're probably 80% picked for jobs based on their looks or "personality" and that changes as you get older.

That might apply to kids on youtube. Even if things go 'well' with child actors, they might have weird upbringings and have gotten a taste of fame that might torture them if they hit adulthood and are typecast. Sure Leonardo DiCaprio and Elizabeth Taylor transitioned from being child actors, but Shirley Temple's career was pretty much over by the time she turned 20. It acting was a working-class profession and you didn't have wild parties and huge money and adulation, you'd be better positioned if you needed (or just wanted) to pivot or had to tell a producer no. There's a sense of humiliation with people who no longer get work. They're 'washed up' actors, presumably wandering the streets looking haunted, shivering and jonesing for fame. The standard threat in films about Hollywood is "you'll never work in this down again" and there are any number of subplots about adults willing to debase themselves for the money. It changes if you can meet "You'll never work in this town again" with a shrug and "okay".

And not everybody used this to paint all Gay people with a broad brush like he did. That organization Child Actors Against Kirk Cameron did a mitzvah calling out his bigotry. In Australia, if we work or volunteer with children, we have to hold a working with children’s card. This is basically a background check on people to see if they have a criminal history or history of professional conduct to ensure that children are safe from sexual and physical harm. I was so shocked to hear that Peck guy was able to work on a kids show after coming out of prison as that wouldn’t happen here in Australia. With each passing year, we get more and more of these child stars that come out to speak about their experiences and with each passing year we hear the same storyline. It's sick and disgusting but also predictable. What's being done for the child stars of today to ensure these stories don't keep happening? Guaranteed, there are young actors entering the industry and going through this kind of stuff right now as we speak, but we won't hear about it for another 12 or 15 years. I don't even know what the solution could even be other than to ban children from being in the industry all together, but that's unreasonable.

I don’t even know what to think of Drake Bell after hearing about the text messages to a minor, being accused of assaulting an old girlfriend, etc. But it does make sense that he was probably abused as a child, which makes you statistically more likely to have mental and emotional problems as an adult and more likely to abuse others from learned toxic behaviors. I hope he opens up about everything and betters his life, and helps others who also worked with him as a child.

I use a posture control Kaye walker and a Rovi x3 power wheelchair for mobility. I figured having a small career on Nickelodeon or Disney Channel could help improve my social practice and inclusion. My high school refused to make accommodations for me to take acting classes, chorus classes, and movie criticism classes. Now I understand why my mom and the majority of my family was so hesitant about paying for my classes and my headshots. Today is my 29th birthday. I’m currently finishing up my Bachelor’s Degree in Film at Bridgewater State University by this Christmas. If I was 13 again, I would sign with Disney Channel over Nickelodeon.
