Excellent restoration overall. I wonder is this a Korean remake? The brass and the steel show this to be of good quality, higher than the fantasy sword market.
Fantastic restoration on this Japanese Tanto knife. The sheath and handle came out looking amazing. Thanks for sharing. Looking forward to your next one. I enjoyed watching this one very much
It looks fine and all, but I keep wondering if you've fitted the first brass piece wrong.. Looks like it would fit the blade better if you flipped it 180 degrees
A cheap reproduction for tourists. stamped steel with brass fittings. the precisely cut notches on the tang should have clued you in that was nothing more than a repackaged kitchen knife.
It’s not very old or very good steel. It’s a cheap $40 blade you can tell by the groves cut into the tang. They are not evenly spaced and different depths. Also this “rust” was very minor surface rust this means it’s a poor quality steel that the guy making the video probably left in water for a week then left to dry. This is why the wood was split yet you could see the perfect outline of the blade like the blade was not removed very many times. It’s probably a decorative piece purchased from eBay or a street vendor for $40.
Nice job but not a real Japanese knife real ones are maked with the makers name and all real Japanese knifes and swords are held together with one pin which you did with the handle
So you bought a cheap tanto and buried it for a few weeks then took the surface rust off and polished it. Can tell it’s a cheap by the uneven and manner the groves were cut on the tang to hold the handle. Hate fake “restore” videos.

Steel rusts and brass almost never...Good enough answer??

Definitely a modern piece, but nice restoration.

Nice work , looked great.
I love knives Outstanding restoration! Outstanding!
I would love a project like this. Random tantos and butchers knives don't show up for me, though. Lol. Love the channel.

Very nicely done
Very cool, well done. 👍
This is not tanto(短刀) I think , this is dosu. It's not shaoed like a tanto and no blade pattern(刃紋)
If thats a real tanto, then restoration is not complete. Where is the hammon and use of wet stone?
Wow beautiful job....

Oh my gosh, that was so dangerous. The saya is split bladeside, can you imagine if it budged and came out when he was holding it like that 😳
nothing, that blade is rusty af, maybe would tear the glove because of the rust itself but not the edge sharpness

BARVO
God forbid he ever finds a real one !
❤❤❤
that might be differentially hardened steel. I kept looking for the hamon, if it is a quick vinegar bath would make it pop.
Thanks! Good job! Good luck!!! Ukraine.

Steel hammer on brass? That's a no no.
Lynn Thompson would approve of that handle.
Good one

What is that Mix you use to remove the Rust ???
Perfeito adorei 👏🤩🇧🇷
Complimenti stupendo lavore. Acciaio sammai? Oppure t 10?
Not an authentic Japanese tanto.. But I love the process..
super :))
To get the brass pieces clean, just soak them in lemon juice for 15-30 minutes
Remarkable! Bravo!

I got an old switchblade from the 60s or so would you like to restore it for me?
Perfeito.👏👏👏🇧🇷
VERY well done!
Is there any way to tell the grade/quality of the steel used to make the knife or when it was made?

Not all are marked whit makers name👍
Most are and there is no pattern on the Hamon (hardening pattern) extending to the Ha (edge).
Can you not just enjoy the video?

Here's the guy who likes to drip finish onto his sheath and handle (which he should have epoxied the tang into) for effect. So sexy when you do that!

Artificially aged....these videos are so dumb when they don’t “restore” old blades
Thought exactly the same! These bright orange rusted surfaces are always made not done by age.
And no actual damage to the metal
Why no epoxy in the handle to make use of the cuts in the tang?
Also needs a gaurd
Because you're supposed to be able to disassemble it.
