I have a question. What if rain was allowed one swift swim abuser in Gen V OU? Only Kingdra, only Ludicolo, only Kabutops or the like? Would that dramatically change your opinion? Asking because I’m curious and since I’m a rain lover.
i was studying for my exams today when i took a break. the first thought that popped into my head was "man i wish somebody would talk about Rain is Actually Terrible in BW OU; Here's Why"
Tho i'd probably wait until we hear about about legends ZA in case any neglected gen 5 mon get regional formes, especially considering today's Nintendo Direct featured zero pokemon stuff
i don’t remember if you made this point in your win rate video but i think win rate is more accurate for the strength of a play style than a particular mon. if a mon onlu appears on one style (like toed on rain or cloy on ho) it’s more appropriate to draw conclusions on how those styles are stacking up in the current meta if you have a sufficient sample
I feel like one of the big reasons for rain getting significantly worse is because many rain threats are still scary enough outside of rain to not require it. The only exceptions I can think of off of the top of my head right now are Tentacruel, Torn I, and Vaporeon. Yeah, Thundo T doesn't get 100% accurate Thunders, but it's still terrifying. Latios doesn't get the appreciated Surf boost, but it still does a fair chunk to Heatran and Tyranitar with it. Keldeo still hits most things for neutral damage and has Toxic for Gastrodon and Jellicent. Ferrothorn doesn't get the nice reduction to fire damage, but it is still immune to sand and is an amazing defensive pokemon even without the help of rain
Just want to say as someone who was making very cringe arguments to ban Reuniclus back when we were still calling it Rankurusu it's validating to see it finally on the chopping block
The whole weather thing makes me wonder if anyone has ever used Politoed and Tyranitar on the same team in any tournament. I feel like it would be funny.
that's. interesting. as someone who doesn't play or know much about BW OU, can you explain why people would think this? it's really powerful in the previous 3 gens, but i've never heard anyone say they want Spikes banned from ADV or anything insane like that
@@seasaltsky I don't know why someone would think this, that's why I'm asking :D BKC briefly mentions in this vid at about 13:30 that he thinks banning spikes would be the healthiest thing for the metagame rather than getting rid of reuniclus, latios etc
as a kid coming out of high school and getting into smogon for the first time in gen5 OU i really felt like i didnt like rain and avoided building it even though it was like every team on ladder at the time. going to pretend like i vibed out your criticisms of rain at the time as cope for repeatedly getting rinsed using a bad team centered around moxie mence
With how popular weather is in gen 5 I wonder how much success mons with cloud nine has and how much it's been used to succes Maybe a fun/interesting video
Will say, as someone who just started playing BW OU recently, rain has not done me well whatsoever. Sand has been far more successful for me as a team style. Even without Reun.
so now this is just my thoughts, i play mostly gen 4 and 3 OU (the two best OU gens of all time don't @ me) along with current gen but i have dabbled in gen 5 OU more then most actually due to it being a childhood metagame i played when it was current. how in the fuck is reuniclus being banned before Latios? it feels so centralizing and not even Ttar really loves switching into it with it's option of having surf as coverage. atleast to me anyways. and with how fast and powerful it is with old draco in a generation without fairies it feels extremely stiffling and the clear most broken of the psychic trio. reuniclus is certainly annoying and snowbally in it's own right but how the fuck is latios still around
Genuine question, if it is so broken that it's ban worthy why did only 13% of people use it in the spl? It even had the highest win rate of all the top mons so why didn't more people use it?
Iirc bkc mentioned how even some top players get tired of using the same pokemon over time and reuniclus usage dropped not due to viability but because you couldn't look at it anymore
@@gittesanddahl9873 ok so I have relistened to his video and am still confused, because he makes it sound like the most broken thing ever and his only reason for why people don't run it more is they don't want to.
@@awqweird reuni looks incredibly repetitive to play as I don't blame them, you just tank whatever gets thrown at you and calm mind/recover up until you can click an attack move a bunch of times and win
@fulltimeslackerii8229 passive damage isn't exclusive to sand. Hail does as well. It seems sand teams are just teams with ttar. If sand teams actually abuse the sand, then why do they struggle more against weatherless offense than rain.
the sand IS usually there just to get rid of rain. the passive damage is good, but were it not for rain (and latios), such teams could be used without sand much more often
You said there are no rain abusers in the top 10 but isn’t keldeo a rain abuser? And shouldn’t it be impressive that politoad is ranked 13 despite the fact that sand, latios and ferrothorn are in the top 5?
the point being made is that keldeo is not only a rain abuser bc it also features very well on sand, just like latios, and no I don't think such usage with such little success is impressive either
What’s the point of a suspect test? Nobody is forced to use or play against the mob in question. Nobody’s gonna change their mind after 30-40 games of suspect laddering. People with the appropriate ELO shouldn’t have to reladder just to vote
I hope the therianthropic use of a semicolon in the title has people reconsidering just how badly they want to use the broken electric snake
(you could be using more broken things)

I guess for balancing now we need to not only unban groudon but also kyogre
At level 80
I've been saying this for years. Just make them Level 99 and they're balanced, check the calcs.
Thats what im saying

That reuniclus test is so long overdue
as someone who played 1 game of BW OU where i just clicked protect with skarmory in sand, i can confirm
Finchinator made me rob someone & get 6 years probation
This is a rain-boosted Scalding take
Just want to say as someone who was making very cringe arguments to ban Reuniclus back when we were still calling it Rankurusu it's validating to see it finally on the chopping block
The solution seems easy, rain teams just need to drop politoed.
After years BW is finally changing to become a more balanced tier I never thought it would happen
you could say rain is washed
The whole weather thing makes me wonder if anyone has ever used Politoed and Tyranitar on the same team in any tournament. I feel like it would be funny.
Your ideas are intriguing to me, and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter.
Everyone always says they are looking at the end of the world. All throughout time... But I really think we might be seeing the first act of the end.
my opinion on rain in BW OU just dropped
Things are getting heated in the fifth generation, folks
So are you just not gonna show your face anymore after edging us for a week straight
What about a video about why spikes should be banned from BW OU? Or their overall impact on that metagame specifically.

0:00 Ah yes Sanremo. Home of politoad
The real problem of rain is that it's too trapped in being offensive. In a world of Finchinators, that can only end one way... 😔
So why don't you just put tyranitar in your rain team to handle latios?

"wait how is rain bad into Sand. what exactly switches into Specs Kingdra"
oh wait. Swift Swim + raid was banned. my bad.
I think you should have continued your irl arc by recording this video outside under the rain
He was actually talking about Rainniclus
See you all in two months when BKC makes the video "Thunderus getting the boot"
77% win rate reuniclus
Would be funny if the only losses were from reun mirrors
Perfectly balanced
With how popular weather is in gen 5 I wonder how much success mons with cloud nine has and how much it's been used to succes
Maybe a fun/interesting video
getting a balanced BW OU metagame=making sand the only viable weather
if sand is top this means BW is a good metagame now
REUNICLUS SUSPECT LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOO
But you also told us Keldeo is broken…
and I stand by it
Because it's still lethal on sand

Wow smogon removed 90% of the tools to make rain good and now it's bad? Color me shocked
BW OU has managed to evolve more in the past 6 months than it ever did in like 10 years 💀
technically, you already had the talk about why you think sand is more balanced
But Reuniclus isnt even good
no way, when the teamstyle is so broken the entire meta is designed around countering that teamstyle making it bad 🤯
I would love viable rain so I could banned. You killed me
This is what happens when you neuter every single thing that makes a play style good though
To be honest I feel as if magic guard should be banned in BW when clefable takes it's place
The solution is to free Thundurus & Tornadus-T.
BKC

How sand teams actually abuse the sand?
It just seems like most of the time, the sand is just there to get rid of the rain.
Sand does progress on thier own and tyranitar have pursuit to punish your offensive mons plus
