I agree with you on the carbon steel being very good for survival purposes. It's strong easier to sharpen and if you put a thin layer of oil on it, even if it is vegetable oil while out and about. It will outlast you.

The Magnum Tanto ii in 3v is great!
Bought one a bit over a week ego. Works great in the woods, proccessed 40 pounds of meat and it was still razor sharp.

The Recon Tanto has been a love of mine ever since I bought my first one in Carbon V and welted leather sheath. I waited for years for a good carbon version and when the SK5 one dropped I jumped on it. Now Cold Steep just needs to keep making the SK5 so I can score another!
Also, I often EDC an 8"-10" khukuri so I don't think EDCing a fixed blade is odd.

I appreciate the testing done here and the commentary kept my interest, thank you for the time making this video. I have had the recon in sk5 steel for a week now, I love the feel of it in hand I like the look and am happy with the purchase. I keep it in my work backpack, I drive for a living and am all over the Alberta countryside in the backwoods so I keep a few different tools in case I'm stranded. A couple days ago I tested it against a tree with about a 4-5 inch diameter with a medium light chop, that blade sank dang near half way through the tree, this was my first tanto style blade and I have to say I like the looks of them. I am now waiting on the cold steel warcraft magnum san mai tanto, here in Canada things are more expensive so when I saw it on sale I had to get it lol. Take care and again thanks for the video

@@choirboyzcutleryoutdoors haha I was hoping to send you some pics and maybe a video, unfortunately the box I opened had the right description on it but the knife inside was the 4034SS version, amazon is going to make it right and send me the san mai when it's back in stock along with letting me keep the budget version at no charge. The 4034 is nice, it'll be interesting to compare the two blades when the san mai arrives. I also ended up buying the san mai version of the recon, it's a beautiful match to the sk5

A little tip: if you want to cut something like the truck belt with a Tanto, don't use the tip. Use the "second tip" where the two edges of the blade and the tip come together. This is the sharpest point of a Tanto.
I am sad that both of my 90's Tanto are gone. The Herbertz Tanto I own is verry long and looking beautiful, although made of 420c, but I would love to have at least one modern Tanto. It feels like the Recon Tanto will make it in my collection, allone because of the price. Maybe I'd get rid of the coating, because I love shiny blades.
But I have to admit that with age my preferences have changed. As much as I was a Tanto guy in the 80's and 90's, I am now more of a Bowie guy. Or, to say it better, I really love clip point blades.
But one, only one modern Tanto...

I have both the CS Recon Tanto and the SRK..love 'em both, awesome knives. I am currently awaiting the arrival of my CS Magnum Tanto 2 San Mai with baited breath from Amazon..they tell me it'll be here Friday. We'll see. I followed your Amazon link and procured it from there. It says the seller is Amazon itself so I assume they stand behind the product as authentic ..they better lol. Just for shits and grins I also bought a cheap BudK clone of the CS Magnum Tanto 2 just to see if I like the size of it and if it was a good fit for me before buying the real deal. Before anyone laughs at me let me tell you the damn cheapo thing is tough and will amputate your hand ..still, junk of course in comparison to the CS magnum Tanto I am waiting on. At the end of the day a sharp stick will kill ya as quick as a $1000.00 dollar knife. I saw Issac the Noob's site once and passed right by it honestly based on the name alone. I'm here to gain knowledge, noobs usually don't have it. Based on your stellar recommendation I am going right now to sub to him. That seriously could be the issue for his slow growth..he should change his name to Issac the knife God..maybe. I personally have NO content on YT and people sub to me sometimes, I have no earthly idea why lol. Great vid as always Sir.

@@choirboyzcutleryoutdoors I think the knife will be ok but I will let you know either way. I guess one advantage to owning the BudK Chinesium cheapo knife is that I can compare the one from Amazon to it lol. So..he's going with Issac the knife God then now?..cool. 🤣 Sounds like the first name was a doozy lol.

@@choirboyzcutleryoutdoors The knife came today. Its the real deal, I scrutinnized it real well and compared it to the cheap BudK knock off. Its like comparing a 70's Chevy Chevette to a 2022 Corvette. They are roughly the same size and shape but the CS quality is space age in comparison. Any historical warrior would love it. Hard to believe I paid $136.00 for this knife before taxes. If anyones been on the fence about buying one of these, do it now..its cheap as youre going to find it. Today they are trying to take guns away from us, knives could be next who knows? We have to stand up to these fools in power! Anyway, follow Scabs link.
