Stroud killed a guard at Levenworth after an argument over his visitation privilege. He got spared the death penalty thanks to a presidential pardon (by President Woodrow Wilson). He then spent the next 43 years completely in solitary confinement 20 of those years were at Levenworth and that's when he began his bird studies. But by 1942 he was stripped of his bird studies (after being discovered of secretly making alcohol from his lab equipment) and sent to Alcatraz for 17 years. He first spent 6 years in cell 42 in D-Block (which also included him of being the hero in the 46 escape attempt in which he told the guards to tell Warden Johnston that there were no guns in D-block. He was 56 at that time) then the next 11 in the prison hospital (He played Checkers with guard George DeVincenzi from 12 midnight to 8 in the morning). However his mind fell apart and he shaved his entire body. He was still a coward because he showed no remorse for any of the crimes he had committed
does anybody have any information on this documentary, like who directed it, who produced it, when it was released etc. I'm hoping to use it as a source for my history project but can't without for info, thanks
