I drove across USA last year and made the effort to stop and visit Mooresville. The nice lady working in the antique shop in town told me where John's house is and the shop he used to hang out at when he was young. Mooresville is great!
first of all dillinger GREW UP in indianapolis, his father moved his family to MOORESVILLE INDIANA in 1920 when he was 17 because his father thought the BIG city was corrupting his son!!!!! in 25 he was sentenced to 15 yrs for robbing the local grocer, he got out in MAY of 33 after his father got 1800 people to sign a petition for his release, he robbed his 1st bank in july of 33 and was killed in july of 34! he only had a 12 month criminal career not 10 yrs! he was my GREAT UNCLE!!!
I'm doing a documentary on John Dillinger for National History Day, and I was curious how you were able to find these old videos. If you could reply that'd be great. Or ( if you do know of any good ones) could you recommend any movie making software similar to i-Movie that's free. Thank you... :)
Caelin Ham Yeah I decided to do History Day again this year... new topic though! :) I'm actually still narrowing things done as of now. Good luck to you, it was definitely a fun topic to uncover and research!
they were desperate men living in desperate times, they had the right weapons for the jobs too, hell and its was probably the federal reserves fault that the great depression happened in the first place, so the banks did it to themselves, you could say they shouldve expected men to revolt
I think I had a conversation with Dillinger tonight. He was speaking via a lamppost outside the jail in which he was held. He seems like quite the charmer. Very flirtatious. Sarcastic, with a good sense of humor. I like him. I will go back and see if he'll speak with me again!
The other character I was referring to was something like what he played in American Psycho or The Machinist, an intense psychopathic sort. He does that very well. I'm not saying he's bad. He just doesn't have a lot of range.
Considering Dillinger was killed in 1934 and Purvis died in 1960 that's more then a few years later. He did however quit the FBI about a year after. And I am sure the cancer he was suffering from had more to do with his suicide.
Well if you see a movie like Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, you would think that Depp did not suit the part. Every time he talked it he sounded like Duke to me. That is just my opion and im throwing that out there though.
Im From Lima As Well John Dillinger's House Used To be On S.Greenlwan Ave But It Was Tore Down Years Ago Some Of The Bullets Are Still In The Tree They Say They Also Have A Pic Of The Officer Killed By Dillinger's Gang Posted At The Allen County Jail On Main Street But Al Capone's Place Is In Fact On Greely Chapel But Its Wore Down But Still Standing But This Is The Place People Come To Hide Out Still To This Day And We Earned The Nickname Little Chicago
The thing with jail is that you meet other criminals and learn about things and lot's of time you come out a bigger smarter criminal then when you went in
Agreed, just saw it. I'm starting to really appreciate his range. Not a fan of the Burton stuff, but the fact that he can go from Fear to Pirates to Public Enemies. Few could do that. Bale was a bit disappointing. He's got about 2 good characters in him.
John Dillinger is my 5th cousin!!! He escaped from a jail that was considered to be "un-escapable." I know some of u might not believe me...but I don't care, it's true!!!!
I saw public enemies last night. lots of guns but there was only about 3 people killed the whole movie. Overall pretty good, but don't watch it if you faint seeing blood. Just because Dillinger doesn't like killing doesn't mean he didn't beat the crap out of a lot of them. The way they killed him is horrible though.
Dillinger was a sophisticated man of the times whose music preferences mirrored the roaring twenties era of big band foxtrots and jazz etc. Delta blues is not really apropos, although I understand that it was referenced for it's effect.
If you really want to know the life and story form the famous outlaw John Dillinger download Infamous America, by Black barrel media, season 4 from wherever you get your Podcasts from... you won’t be disappointed!
Yes he did, when trying to escape a bank heist he was aiming to shoot an officer in the leg, as this officer tripped he got shot in the chest I believe. Dillinger was sad because this happened.
Dillinger was first placed in Pendleton Indiana Reformatory and later transferred to Indiana State Penitentary at Michigan City, Indiana. Not Michigan Penitentary how can you make a documentary without straight facts?
You wouldn't say that if you were in his presence in his time era. Besides they were both pretty cool! Though it is my belief that Dillinger had more balls than Capone,Big Al ultimately out did JD when it comes to how successful they were financially and otherwise, as well as who is more recognizable nowadays! Not to mention that Capone died in his bed with his family around him and John Dillinger died in a urine soaked ally way! Nevertheless though JD was still an icon of his era as was Capone
I'd like to know why all these videos insist on having over powering "background" music!! So damned loud you have to struggle to hear the dialogue.
Ridiculous music
😂 😂 😂 I feel u

Mooresville is great!
The Government caused the Great Depression.Greedy, Evil , Corrupt .When people are hungry and there is no Jobs, you do what you have to do to survive.
Thanks for uploading this rare documentary.
I only know him because of Johnny Depp. Now I can't get enough of his history!!
THANKS FOR UPLOADING BROTHER
"Lie down on the floor and keep calm"
- John Dillinger
Wise words indeed.
Lion of a man totally fearless
A true outlaw

He was a friend of my grandfather, not sure how they met but I had a lot of family from Brown County and Monroe County as well as my grandmother.
I'm glad we can learn today about such a wonderful man
More like coward.

Thank you... :)
This whole documentary was on an old VHS video i found at my local library titled "Gangster File: The Sensational Truth". It's pretty hard to find.
+ExplodingwithHappy I'm also doing it for History day. But im doing the paper
Caelin Ham Yeah I decided to do History Day again this year... new topic though! :)
I'm actually still narrowing things done as of now. Good luck to you, it was definitely a fun topic to uncover and research!
he didn't have a ten year career. He was paroled in May 1933 and killed in July 1934.
they were desperate men living in desperate times, they had the right weapons for the jobs too, hell and its was probably the federal reserves fault that the great depression happened in the first place, so the banks did it to themselves, you could say they shouldve expected men to revolt
I live in Crown Point IN where the famous wooden gun jailbreak too place. Big stuff for us when Johnnie Depp came to town! 😂😂
Nicely produced! Great Vid!
The "Michigan Penitentiary" the narrator keeps referring to is actually Indiana State Prison, at Michigan City, Indiana...

when was this documentory taken place?
@BoxleyNat Yes I know. See the quotation marks?? I was quoting the person who did say he killed them and stating he was wrong.
Cool, so are you excited about the new movie?
Dillenger arranges a Jail Break for his Friends ?
(wtf....BALLS MAN !)
Slow talking or the unnecessary background music I can almost take one or the other...bit not both. Out at 1:31.
i beat you. I was out at 37 seconds
The warden of the Michigan City Prison gave me a piece of the brick facade of the prison that is shown in this video.
Great documentary, but the music was really distracting! Thank you!!!

He rolled the dice and came up snake eyes. Clown was only a crook for 6 months before he met his maker.
how did they get this footage and is it real
His Prison sentence was to be done In Michigan City AKA (ISP) Indiana State Prison
He was not in Michigan State penitentiary never was imprisoned in Michigan
Well if you see a movie like Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, you would think that Depp did not suit the part. Every time he talked it he sounded like Duke to me. That is just my opion and im throwing that out there though.
Men such as John Dillinger have nothing but my utmost respect.
great upload

Dillinger was released from Indiana state pen in Michigan City Indiana

The thing with jail is that you meet other criminals and learn about things and lot's of time you come out a bigger smarter criminal then when you went in
whats that song dude 1:21 ?

Very informative!!
I think Dillinger isn't even dead, or at least, he got away from the Chicago shooting alive.
I live near the bank in East Chicago Indiana . Which in the years to come was demolished. WOW
John Dillinger was my hero it's criminals like this that had a mind... not like those fools who get caught these days
O U T L A W ! !
J.DILLINGER is an American Icon!
I think the reference to Michigan Pen and should mean Michigan City Jail..
John Dillinger is my 5th cousin!!! He escaped from a jail that was considered to be "un-escapable." I know some of u might not believe me...but I don't care, it's true!!!!

I live not far from the site of Dillinger's first bank robbery.
The lake county jail in Crown Point Indiana is still standing . Which Dillinger escaped with a gun made from soap . amazing

@leek6666
What's the name of your page? I'd join if I can find it.
It's a shame that people don't have the freedoms we used to due to John d, but on the other hand what a great story...
If you really want to know the life and story form the famous outlaw John Dillinger download Infamous America, by Black barrel media, season 4 from wherever you get your Podcasts from... you won’t be disappointed!
14 years for robbing a grocery store? and they still want to know why john d, bonny n clyde, baby nelson etc choose that life
i believe in real life they did....cause the biography states she died in her native country.
I WAS JUST VICTIM OF DEPRESSION LIKE MANY ,MANY AMERICANS.I FEEL SORRY .
Wow! Is Dillinger your last name too?
it should be "michigan city, indiana state prison"
Yes he did, when trying to escape a bank heist he was aiming to shoot an officer in the leg, as this officer tripped he got shot in the chest I believe. Dillinger was sad because this happened.
Wouldn't have stopped him from getting the chair like Pierpont did..
"He is rewarded for his co-operation with a jail sentence of 14 years" LOL they were pretty tough with crims in those days
Johnny Depp will be playing John Dillinger in a movie.
Oh? Well in that case I appologize. I haven't read much about John Dillinger, I've read more of Al Capone and other gangsters plus the Italian mafia.
@suny123boy1 Yes... Its spelled "Lima" but pronnounced "Lyma"
Documentary fantastic.
Behind Alvin Karpis Dillinger was the man
john dillenger and al capone were both masterminds
"Because that's where the money is."
Hey, Dillinger’s marriage lasted longer than most Hollywood celebrity marriages.
could anyone tell me what is this tune???
Um well then please inform me where you got your information, because I read something totally different. However the movie was still awesome.
LOL at the Canadian narrators accent
John Dilinger Public Enemy Number One.
I named myself after this man
RIP John Dillinger.
He died today in 1934.
love that trombone melody
Dillinger was the best!!!
@canadianswank I agree! Dillinger was the greatest.
Dillinger was first placed in Pendleton Indiana Reformatory and later transferred to Indiana State Penitentary at Michigan City, Indiana. Not Michigan Penitentary how can you make a documentary without straight facts?
He was an innocent man !

The music in the beginning was HORRIBLE.
The music is kind of noisy.
He is my 5th cousin. Any relatives out there?
