I'm surprised some Karen from your HOA doesn't put a cabosh on your nitro enjoyment. Glad to see you got your tune worked out. Stick to 20% fuel and you'll have less issues. Thanks for the video!
So watching your t maxx video series and I find my using my classic more than my 3.3. I keep breaking something. My 2.5 is solid. Still learning about tune. Ran on traxxas fuel and I will be switching to a different fuel. Thanks again for your videos.
I remember switching fuel 25% or even 30% into the Tmaxx made the truck Running better but u have to retuned. Earl I just wanted to let you know the 2.5 had problems and would lean out and blow then the revised it and called it the 2.5rs supposed to fix lean problem I had several issues my friend didn’t but then I got the 3.3 which was much better and heatsink. Great video Earl thanks for sharing god bless
Make sure your exhaust coupler ,fuet tank lid,are staying sealed aka your fuel pump circuit also adding klotzs bean oil to your fuel helps the engines live stay with the lowest nitro content you can as a last resort you can add a ignition system that lights the glow plug with the throttle.
hey bro! I see some positive changes with the 20% nitro, I'd say most of this is due to the tune being less aggressive (not sure how else to put this). But ye, normally going down in nitro content will require like a 1/2 turn leaner. Not a complete science, lots of other factors, consul also be you're running more fuel and the motor is starting to run more consistently. Always, the 3.3 model is the keeper. Unless you want the 2.5 for collection purposes, here is no need to keep it if you got the 3.3 too.
That's all I run in all my nitro's and have no problems,if you want a little more out of that 2.5when the warranty runs out put a 3.3 crankshaft in it, that's what I did with mine, also you can put an os 11 carb and it will make a big difference.
Sounds like it runs great on the 20% it’s like the little truck that could amain has a 200 piece screw set for the tmaxx 2.5 if one was inclined to swap out the Phillips but then again there’s a lot of upgrades one can do to it
Hi I always used 20% never had any problems I used to use blue thunder back in the day but now I tried 20% VP fuel I suggest trying it as it was really good clean burning fuel. It's getting there you will get it going after a little more tinkering.
I prefer the Phillips head because you can use one Phillips screwdriver and do a lot more screws and the arrowheads you have to use that size millimeter or standard
I have installed part number TRA4994X in the transmission with the Forward Only Conversion (FOC) to get rid of that annoying bucking problem that the 2.5 Transmission has.
Traxxas head gasket part# comes with 3 head gasket thicknesses. Traxxas told me it's for different nitro percentage. Never had to change it with 3.3 but maybe 2.5 is more sensitive to this.🤔
I honestly didn’t know why you weren’t using the recommended 20%. You yourself are usually pretty good with the new RC sticking to manufactures recommendation. Love your channel. I don’t know how you handle that heat. Oh my God it was 85 in Michigan today and I was melting. But we are humid here
It's a T-Max classic for a reason. It's an older platform with older technology. Now the engine you should be able to tune it. Traxxas's carburetors are infamous for leaking and cracked. Try the losi 3.4 carburetor which I believe you can still get at amain. Just a suggestion.. I got that carburetor on my RCR modded TRX 3.3 and it's great
Your lower end is super lean your top and is super fat that’s why you’re fighting it. That bucking is from heaven the low end to lean when you let off it bucks
2.5 was always fickle for me. I had a tmaxx classic when it wasn't a classic. It was picky on fuel. Never ran right with traxxas fuel. I went with Byron's back in the day and it was okay then found sidewinder and it was mint. Stuck with it for all my RCs. Even switched to cool power for my planes. Both made by Morgan Fuels in Alabama. I like bones brew too. It's very similar to but a little better than Byrons and pretty cheap in bulk. But my favorite is still sidewinder race blend 30% Nitro 12% Oil. The stuff brings engines to life. Also, OS 11k carbs on all 3.3's. They should come from the factory with them. Night and day difference.
looks like 20% is the sweet spot. I had similar experience tuning my 2.5 t maxx. I was using 30%.. got 20% coming for my used new to me hpi Savage with its big block. I think the 20% may be the way to go.
I use 20% for the .15 and 2.5 and have no issues. 33% for the 3.3’s and they run fine. I don’t keep having to adjust the needles, the only time is the summer and winter, but again it’s only minor adjustments. No bigs whatsoever. Your 2.5 sounds real good.
That was a big improvement 👏 I'm shocked that the fuel makes a difference 😳 I figured the higher percentage fuel would be better . It sure does move pretty good ! Cool video 💯💯💯
I was ready to rename the 2.5 (TRASHBAG) but now have a better option of the 2.5, like you said it’s a little ripper. It probably doesn’t hurt to follow Traxxas recommendations. 20% seems the way to go. 💪👍💯
The bucking is normal on the 2.5 it has to do with the reverse selector in the Transmission/ idle speed , but if you get the idle set right it's very minor. Or do the the reverse delete, but I like having the reverse. I do believe the 3.3 is a better deal. Don't give up on the 2.5 once running right it's a best too. I run VP 30% nitro in all my nitro rc's with 9 %oil.
Nice. This is what makes nitro live. Thanks for sharing Earl. I had the same problem with 30%. Just don’t leave fuel in the engine nor the tank. Traxxas top fuel seems to get slushy over time. A few days is ok but if you going to put the RC away at least leave the engine empty. The tank is easier to clean and push fuel through the lines of not clean the fuel filter.👍
Before I used Vp fuel 25 % because they said traxxas fuel is trash, but when I tried I preferred this now on all of my nitro because it’s run better and cooler. Now I don’t listed to them😂
Why fight with the 33%? The 20 percent ran/idled better from what I saw. Will the classic be a keeper? When I get mine, I'm putting the rechargeable power pack in and a tank like the nitro pede had. I could put a pen between the primer and under the lid to prop it open so I could refill it one-handed. The lil things I do so I can do R/C with my disability are amazing! :)
Great video and I’ve learned a lot again. Thanks Earl. What happened to your intro ? I miss Tony’s Bash style. I’ve laughed so many times now. Awesome 🤪👍
Hey great video man, I have the t Maxx that comes with the antenna radio am I think it's called loses reception can I switch to a3 channel dumborc radio? Or should I stick with a Traxxas radio? I run the Traxxas 20 percent just got into nitro😊
This is the first time I watched one of your videos, very interesting. I read a lot of the comments and everyone is calling your 2.5 a classic. I'm just getting back into the RC hobby, I have a well used but runs T-Maxx .15 (needs a muffler, good luck finding one) from the early 2000's that has it's share of replacement parts (= $$$$ !) including a aluminum pan (chassis). I'm about to replace the motor with a brand new 2.5r, what fuel would recommend for break-in and every day use? I bought a conversion kit for the swap. Is my .15 a true classic?
33% fuel is far too much for a small block 2.5, it was probably detonating on you. 16-20% it where is should be for a motor of that size. Traxxas fuel is garbage. There is a reason everybody except Traxxas says so. Back in the day Traxxas recommended using WD-40 as after oil! Don't listen to them. They just want you to blow up engines more frequently. Also, if your idle is higher than you would like it, would you not just turn out the idle screw?
I'm surprised some Karen from your HOA doesn't put a cabosh on your nitro enjoyment. Glad to see you got your tune worked out. Stick to 20% fuel and you'll have less issues. Thanks for the video!
sounds pretty legit and tunedwell on 20 percent earl!!
When checking engine temperature, point the guage directly at the glow plug to get a proper reading.
So watching your t maxx video series and I find my using my classic more than my 3.3. I keep breaking something. My 2.5 is solid. Still learning about tune. Ran on traxxas fuel and I will be switching to a different fuel. Thanks again for your videos.

Looks like you got it! Seems to be running and idling pretty awesome now!
It very important to have the idle correct as Earl is completely correct. I remember if idle was to high it won’t go into reverse👍🏻
And the truck needs to be completely stopped as well before it will go into reverse smoothly and correctly

Complete the traxxas nitro truck collection with the revo. 🤙

great video Earl I think was ripping after you put the 20% in👍👊💯
I can’t wait to get a Traxxas Nitro someday 👍can’t beat the sounds of an engine
I’ve always used 20% and have never had issue. I’m glad that switching worked for you, she’s sounding so much better.
The 2.5s with reverse all do the jumping stuttering idle. Put forward only and it’ll get rid of that’s
Looks lioke the fuel switch is what it needed. 👍👍
Man Got me want n to get me another 3.3. traxxas customer service is what keeps me with them...
Yes
What would be considered too hot for these engines?
I have installed part number TRA4994X in the transmission with the Forward Only Conversion (FOC) to get rid of that annoying bucking problem that the 2.5 Transmission has.
You were right! 20% is the ticket (: that sounds awesome! 😎👍💯
Traxxas head gasket part# comes with 3 head gasket thicknesses. Traxxas told me it's for different nitro percentage. Never had to change it with 3.3 but maybe 2.5 is more sensitive to this.🤔
Looks like play time… 👍👍👍
Pick you up some bones brew fuel man, shit rocks! I think I have a couple quarts I can send you to try out if you’d like
It will be interesting to see it run,you get another one maybe get the slayer 3.3 .
I honestly didn’t know why you weren’t using the recommended 20%. You yourself are usually pretty good with the new RC sticking to manufactures recommendation. Love your channel. I don’t know how you handle that heat. Oh my God it was 85 in Michigan today and I was melting. But we are humid here
Yes was trying to stick with fuel I had 👍👍

I think you should keep it. Switching from 20% to 30% will give it way more power and it’ll also run better and cooler
That was a big improvement 👏 I'm shocked that the fuel makes a difference 😳 I figured the higher percentage fuel would be better . It sure does move pretty good ! Cool video 💯💯💯
That’s running sweet how much are these 2.5 classics worth in that second hand condition in today’s market
I was ready to rename the 2.5 (TRASHBAG) but now have a better option of the 2.5, like you said it’s a little ripper. It probably doesn’t hurt to follow Traxxas recommendations. 20% seems the way to go. 💪👍💯

Yes need to be clear of fuel if not running daily 👍
Crazy how much difference that fuel made.
Glad to see it lining out now for you sir. I got the want for all the RCs in the world but budget for 1 lol. Happy bashings!
That 20% sure did make a difference I'm definitely going too try out👍🏻💯 Thanks again Earl!
Thanks
Where can you get Byron fuel. That was the best IMO, but my LHS can't get it anymore 😕 so now I use trx or Morgan. Fuel ain't cheap anymore.
Idk haven’t looked for the fuel in years if I find some I’ll post the link 👍👍
My 2.5’s never ran good on anything but 20% not for reliability always got hot quick didnt mater outside temp
Before I used Vp fuel 25 % because they said traxxas fuel is trash, but when I tried I preferred this now on all of my nitro because it’s run better and cooler. Now I don’t listed to them😂
Traxxas top fuel is fine, I have used several fuels over the years and never had a problem with any name brand fuel.
Why fight with the 33%? The 20 percent ran/idled better from what I saw. Will the classic be a keeper? When I get mine, I'm putting the rechargeable power pack in and a tank like the nitro pede had. Great video and I’ve learned a lot again. Thanks Earl. What happened to your intro ? I miss Tony’s Bash style. I’ve laughed so many times now. Awesome 🤪👍
Just shorten it up to keep the vid around 20 min 👍👍
Nice what a huge difference from the fuel change she’s definitely a little ripper 👌👍👊

Nice intro Earl.✌️
🔥👍👍
Hey great video man, I have the t Maxx that comes with the antenna radio am I think it's called loses reception can I switch to a3 channel dumborc radio? Or should I stick with a Traxxas radio? I run the Traxxas 20 percent just got into nitro😊
Any radio now a days are good
Maybe one day I'll get into gas. Cool video Earl
Traxxas fuel doesn't suck, but 20% is better for break in then go then go to Morgan or VP fuel 😉
Keep em coming! #notificationsquad
Ran great on 20 percent

The Tmaxx 2.5 is called classic on traxxas website that the revised version of the original.15 model basically the same with different electric 💨💨💯💯
What's up my man!

KEVINS THE TOP DAWG OF RC
Is there a top person 🤔😢who can say someone’s top when not everyone videos themselves 🤷🏻♂️
that intro 😆😅🤣😂
Nice
Just can’t get into nitro earl ! Takes to much work.
Really not bad when you consider how much battery maintenance should be done on electric that no one really does 🤔
