- The National Children's Orchestra of Great Britain's Main Orchestra performs Villa-Lobos' The Little Train of the Caipira at The Sage Gateshead on 6 August 2011, conducted by Natalia Luis-Bassa. Produced by Black Swan Film and Video.
A wonderful musical rendition of the experience of taking a short, nostalgic steam-locomotive train ride. I remember such a ride when I was a little kid more than 60 years ago in Taiwan, as I listened to and watched these talented boys and girls re-create "The Little Train of the Caipira" by the great Brazilian composer Villa-Lobos. At the clear signal from the "conductor" of the orchestra (and the train), the percussion team started the engine, followed by the shrill flutes, the bombastic French horns, and even the clarinets joined the excitement as the short journey begins, with the strings playing the main melody line. Then you feel the train picks up speed, sounding a whistle, chugging along, letting off steam from time to time, perhaps even slightly engulfed in smoke from the burning coal or wood that produces the powerful steam energy to drivel the locomotive. You can virtually hear the heavy metal wheels smoothly riding the sturdy tracks as the piston pushes and pulls the huge main wheels. Then, it slows down as it approaches the station and stops, the steam still hissing, as if taking a break working hard pulling the train and completing the journey. Thank you, boys and girls, for making the musical journey possible and sharing the joy of music making with the world through RUclips. Well done!
Parabéns pela ótima interpretação. Obrigado.
absolutely incredible brings tears to my eyes
thank you. It´s from Brazil.
The Little Train of Caipira
The Little Train of the Brazilian Countryman was composed in 1930 by Brazilian composer Heitor Villa-Lobos. It is part of Bachianas Brasileiras No. 2.
It simulates the departing train, traveling and arriving in the interior of Brazil.
Boa Fernanda 👍
One of the earliest orchestral pieces I ever heard! It was featured on a Reader's Digest LP set called The Wonderful World of Music for Children!
I think the piece is talking about the main working class and mass exodus(the farmers "the caipiras")from rural areas to the cities and the industrializing process the country were suffering from small cities developing into great hubs of activity(like Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo) in the first decades of 20th century, and when the train stops we've reached the future,a turning point where even the poor would enjoy the things from modern life(like a good housin, good public schools and healthcare,a decent job for everyone, clean water and warm meals) everything i said even on the most remote parts of the country, thats progress or at least that's what the piece hoped we achieve.
Unfortunatly to our country reach this level of development it would cost much sweat and sometimes sacrifices from us patriots...
Don't be fooled this isnt utopia some countries reached this level of development.
15 people missed that train...
@@irlandesousa830I like what you write. Was it a Villa Lobos intention or thought ? Great utopias anyway. As one say the 20th century should have lasted thousands years. Look how completely destroyed railway net were rebuilt after the war. A huge work, lot of sweat and pain. Now it is beeing destroyed again by a so called globalisation, only big profit, expensive 1000km of TGV lines are built while 100 000 country lines are closed...
Did you see «O menino e o mundo» by Alê Abreu ? Great anime movie, very poetical and also about what you describe.
I'm brazilian and I'm proud of your interpretation.
Congratulations.
There's hope for the future of good music yet with children of this age doing such a wonderful performance.
This was better than a lot of the professional recordings that I've heard. Very expressive, and well executed. And being played by little people. Was digging the bass player who couldn't find clothes his size to wear.
This is how our music travels around the world with musical leaders from Latin America. If the conductor was not from Venezuela, it is doubtful that Villa-Lobos would have been chosen. Because of the outstanding work and reputation coming from Venezuela, the treasure of music coming from Mexico, Brazil and Argentina is arriving to the consert halls of Europe.
great piece from my childhood ~ better performed than other adult orchestras I have heard
Why are there empty seats in the audience? Villa-lobos is my favorite composer. My fear is that no orchestra in the Bay Area will ever have any of his music in a program in my lifetime. I saw the bachianas performed live and I almost teared up.
I'm brazilian and I know this song since I was a child.
Amazing presentation. I got tears from my eyes.
Congratulations.
Villa Lobos realmente um gênio. Conseguiu reproduzir em sua composição um trem em movimento , aceleração, desaceleraçao e a parada do trem. Simplesmente Fantástico.
Parabéns pela performance. Essas crianças não brincam em serviço!
AWESOME! Congratulations for this perform. They Kids play at Service
I find your performances really exciting. Its been great seeing a woman conducting too, A really good role model for all the girls in the orchestra.
Real authentic train sounds,,just fantastic.
Excelente la interpretación a una gran obra de Villalobos
the best performance I've seen of this piece, and it's made by teens, this is amazing.
first heard this on bbc schools music programme in 1970 and still remember it
Yes, that’s where I first heard it too. I seem to remember a film of a train accompanying the music.
Um gênio Villa Lobos. A melhor interpretação de Bachianas n.2 de todos os tempos. Wonderful performance.
I am very emocional with this presentation. I am brazilian 😍
The music we learned at child school, for little train, "café com pão... café com ... café com pão " sound, in portuguese like a little train

Não podemos esperar incentivos governamentais! Pessoas corajosas devem tomar a frente pelo bem maior! E a cultura é o caminho!

The only problem with this video is the sound recording, which is poorly balanced.

LIKE SI T LA POUR MADAME CATELAIN COLLEGE LIBERTE MDR !!!
JADORE LE FESSE

Lol
Ritmo extremamente complicado
melhor seria: "countrified little train"
little capira train. Capira is not only "of the country" but a cultural identity as well.
"The Little Train of the Countryman"
First!
I HATE MUSIC😩😠
that comment is sooooo useful! thanks
You're probably not ready for real music. Keep evolving. It shouldn't be a lost cause
