His clothes are lowkey what i wanna buy first when i arrive to the point of being able to afford designer cause his clothes are so simple yet fun and unique!!
fashion has become such an oversimplified and oversaturated art form these days, thank you for your intellectual analysis of these runways. really makes me feel like i’m actually learning something ❤️
@@wikkidize fashion/clothes in the most basic meaning is indeed simple. But try to grasp the creative process behind it especially those who craft high end pieces. Try to do a pattern making and you wouldnt call that oversimplified lol
There's something about Jacquemus that feels very humble and grounded despite its innovative and ambitious experimentation the brand has always done. I wonder why.
Because it is intentionally marketed that way while in reality it tries to reenact a small designer look... nothing new. I like the aesthetic but as a “brand” this has no substance.
FYI: Jacquemus has announced his new collection "La Montagne". The show is on the 30th June at an undisclosed location. It's his fall collection, so the first pieces will be available to buy after the show and the main collection will be in stores for September.
It is interesting to note that he started creating "abstract", near unwearable and transitioned to practical workwear/leisure clothing with his own childlike vision
It is rare that I can "understand" a high fashion brand, and I found his early shows completely uninteresting, even from an experimental point, but the more it progresses, the more I "get" his point. I guess that having the same references and nostalgia helps, it's an ode the the french "province", very different from Paris, a really important distinction. The lasts shows litterally feel like he took the content of my grandma's linens closet, went to a village farm, and brought all of it to a cheap camping site near te beach for summer vacation. But way classier. I'm also way more focused on textiles and materials than shapes, so it might help.
I don't know why but I am OBSESSED by Jacquemus the brand and the designer of course. THere's something so simplistic, beautiful, futuristic and nostalgic about the branding that I cant let go of. I needed this video so thank you!
This video randomly showed up on my page and I just love how you analyze this designer and the clothes. I didn't even notice when I had seen 36 minutes. You make it so interestning! I really felt like I learned more about what goes into fashion designing. Thank you!
Nice analisis. I think Jacquemus brings minimalism into luxury market with his simplicity, tailoring and beautiful models and of course "chiquito" bags
Welcome in, Bea! I’m so glad you found it useful. A big goal for me is to make fashion’s artfulness more accessible. There’s so much incredible art coming from fashion designers right now. If you’re interested in checking out a really outstanding runway show, check out my video on Margiela’s Spring Sunmer 1990 show. Most of the audience who attended cried at that show. Again, glad you’re here, Bea :)
My favorite of your videos (so *far*) and it gave me such a deeper appreciation of Jacquemus. While I knew of his nostalgia laced within his collections I didn't know it was a persistent motif to the extent that it is.
This was great! I appreciate his focus on not necessarily being anti-establishment but anti-urban. He is firmly centered in southern France and it's influences. And he is brilliant with his sets!
I think it's so interesting how I'm seeing someone people absolutely loathe this style. In the beginning, sure, I think I would agree. But around 2017 and going on I am 1000% on board. I think it just goes to show that you can't and frankly shouldn't please everyone. I love how his clothes emphasize the natural shape of women's breasts, and showing off our legs and using drapery to build in comfort. This aligns already with how I dress myself but it's also beautiful and glamorous. Frankly not everyone wants to dress themselves that way or even think that he emphasizes those body parts in ways that they want to. I think they have a right to feel that way! But I think this designer also has a right to do what he does and appeal to those of us that would enjoy wearing his beautiful clothes. Thank you so much for this video! I stumbled upon this designer as someone who does not keep up with runway fashion at all. I really enjoyed this!!!
In an interview about all the looks from the Lavendar show Simon said his family was known for picking carrots as part of the family business, another branch of his family was known for artichokes, so i think thats where the carrot reference is from
I really love Jacquemus's evolution as a fashion brand, how it started with a very concrete and defined aesthetic, with the beachy/travel apparel and overall childlike playfulness in their garnments, and sticked with it, now with a much more refined, wearable and luxurious approach, being yet so ingraned in its core that it's still a distinctive feature of the brand. However I also really liked the more experimental and deconstructed side of Jacquemus from the mid 2010's. I personally don't feel like the designs started to become forcibly experimental, I think that it was more of a natural turn of events that pushed and helped to reinforce the brand's ethos into what it is now, and I would really like to see more of this side from the brand in the future, it would be pretty interesting to see what could be the result with the same risky approach from before. Really good coverage overall, loved the change of backrounds mid video ;)
Side note : Christian Lacroix was also from the south of France although not exactly the same area (he grew up in Arles when Jacquemus comes from Salon de Provence)
Also bliss I think u would love rohmer-green ray, claires knee, collectioneuse, etc. Really great delicious style in the stories’ atmospheres. (Or watch again of course if u seen them👙)
I really enjoyed this video, very well done and informative! on another note I don't get whimsical or childlike from his clothes. Only romanticization of workwear and everyday people and clothes to wear on vacation, which isnt a bad thing I guess.
You didn’t mention my favourite piece from the ‘L’amour’ show- the bracelet that looks like a curved door handle. Also I love those pasta earrings, and am sad that they seem to be completely sold out everywhere. Edit- spelling
Hey Mr. Forster I have an important appointment for you. Right now I'm writting an, I guess it's called essay in Englisch, about Jacquemus. It's about his inspiration reflected in his work. Espacially about his family (mother) and France (the south). I just watched your video about his fashionshow and wanted to ask if you could help me by giving an interview. I'm and 16 years old student from Germany. Please! It can be a 5 minute interview on discord. would be awesome!!!
Hi! There’s a ton of resources on their website. There’s very little I could find about Simon’s mother. I imagine that’s because it’s painful for him to talk about. There’s a few small pieces of inspiration on the website tho! Best of luck!!
I found this channel earlier today and i've been binge watching videos alllll day! I really like your channel and the concept of it! It's indeed helpful and informative for someone who wants to get into fashion more, so, thank you for that! ♥
Been a buyer a multi brand for years and years, bought Jacquemus season 3, those weird shapes and off the body stuff sold quickly, full price … cause in 2015 those prices were low.. especially compared to comme and shit, and those were the customers at the beginning. But that 2016 collection changed everything… that circle sq shoe blew out, everything flew..100% sell through before sale..the shirting was incredible… and like you said CHEAP! It was so much fine to buy and sell
The scene from the Jacquemeus shoot on the beach next to the nuclear power plant gave me Super Tramp's "Crisis What Crisis" album cover vibes. And your emojis immediately after further solidified this feeling
Instant-sub, gonna binge your channel. I'm a baguette from the sud, une chocolatine to be exact, also Spanish. Pretty impressed with your French pronunciation, it's better than most fashion youtubers. Only thing I was hella confused as to what you were talking about until you explained it was "Gadjo", the J is softer and there's an emphasis on the O, I'd suggest looking it up on wiktionary there's a sound file to check pronunciation. I mean, it's not really French but it's a part of the urban vocabulary now so we're pretty used to it, I thought you were saying something in Italian. 😅 Thanks for this video! I didn't have Jacquemus on my radar, which is amusing as we seem to have the same heritage and I can clearly see his vision now that you pointed it out. Méditerranée represent.
@35:10 - I've watched dozens of your videos because I enjoy the art behind clothing, but I rarely see anything I would ever consider wearing... ... I need those pants...
I can tell by all of the rooms in the background of your home that you are not broke! That yellow chair is AMAZING!!!!! Why do you need regular ppl to send you money for your channel? Just curious....
Update your profile pic please! You look kinda different in video and on your profile pic (and you look cuter in the vids!) Well obviously only when you want to of course! Either way, quality content 💫
Simon should pivot to just designing accessories. The clothes are fine, but most buyers he is capturing primarily want accessories. His inability to drape/or draft patterns for clothes work against him, but he does have an eye for product design and aesthetics. If he focused more on those products I feel like his target consumer would increase A LOT.
I think it’s genius! The show with the extra large (understatement) grommets. Amazing and can be adapted to completely wearable. And I thought that was kind of the point of these shows. What can be taken from them that can be translated to something fresh and wearable? I’m into this.
Is there a reason you started with Spring 2014? His website is showing his earliest show to be Fall 2012 at Paris Fashion Week but I could be missing something.
First time watching a video of yours and I gotta say- you reeled me in hook, line aaand SINKER. So informative, yet absolutly hilarious and I looove your personality! You got a new loyal subscriber & friend my dude! 💖👌

It is interesting to note that he started creating "abstract", near unwearable and transitioned to practical workwear/leisure clothing with his own childlike vision

once we got to the Gadjo-collection I figured out why you wore that shirt. Cute.

Crazy to see such change over the entire life of the brand so far!
Gadjo is NOT used in ALL of France but solely in the South East (French Riviera) of France. Where Simon comes from.
Please do this for Alexander McQueen
