Made a mold yesterday with my boy. Hoping to pour it in the next few days when I get time. Your video definitely got me stoked on making one. SK8 DIY baby!!!!
Jon Glass So true! Wise words Jon, I’ve realized the “less is more” technique works with slappies. Still learning but seems to be the combo of confidence and letting your trucks flow into the curb vs bash.
I was so bummed dude, and I lost an entire SD card filming this haha I was about just "give up" and bag the entire project until I found some clarity & remembered nothing good ever goes as planned lol. Gotta roll with the punches right?!
I have used medium gauge wire fencing instead of rebar. I've had a curb crack, but due to the fencing it didn't come in have and was still skateable for a good while. Also, I wonder if super long curbs are just hard to move...their own weight is a problem. A couple of my ramps have cracked, next time I'm going to try and keep them wet longer. Good work.
Joe solid points dude! Honestly I think using less amount of water during the mixing process is crucial too. Not letting the crete get to sloshy because it gets too weak during the cure. Good call on the gauge wire fencing instead of rebar! Any metal to grab makes sense!
hey you have really REALLY good video quality! try to make sure your audio doesnt peak so much so that volumes are consistent, but srsly though good vid ::) hope u grow some!
Sean Enuks Thanks dude & good idea for sure. I will say having the extra banked side is making it easier for me to learn Slappys, cause I suck at them haha.
Zack Dowdy the extra bit of bank on one side makes it so sick! It’s all in the hips dude! You’ll get way better at slappies now you have your own curbs
I do concrete work and the saw is a good idea but yeah a rubber mallet works just fine to get the air voids out and yeah the concrete form let it harden and the next day after 24 hrs bury it in wet sand for 28 days and then you'd get over 5000 psi by the 28th day. Just keep the sand moist. But the tarps work too it isn't something that needs to be spec made and astm tested lol
My wife wants to make a little wooden bank-to-curb for the garage…when I was a kid our indoor park had one like this…pretty neat how they built it. I think I am going to custom build a curb that will fit perfect up top- kinda dropped into it an inch. 😂 don’t know why she wants to drag it in and out of the garage but I believe it’s probably because her and her girlfriends are thinking they want to carry it around to different spots in her truck. I can kinda see it…hell yeah another good vid! Thanks Z
Concrete should really have a full 30 days or so to cure before any paint is applied to it. It's hard after a day or two, but not anywhere near done curing. Especially if you're going to spend extra for some high compression strength stuff (which is probably a waste of money for these), I'd wait to paint it. Great DIY sk8 project, though!
Zack - quick question for you. I am trying to connect two parking blocks to make one long slappy ledge for my local shop’s parking lot. I used bondo the first time, abs they’ve already come apart. The issue I’m having is that the ends of the parking blocks aren’t vertical, they are slightly angled, so when I push them together, the bottom touches, but there’s this large gap that needs to be filled between them. Any idea on what I could use to get them to stick abs not break? Thx!
Ahh yes! This is a situation I've run into a few times. Some curbs have a straight edge & don't dapper like the ones you mention, but in this case I would cut the curb straight on each edge & push together (with an angle grinder or something) basically to get that sharp edge. Otherwise it's tough, you can try filling it with concrete & then seal with a strong adhesive but you'd need to build some type of form. Sorry I don't have a better solution but if you find one let me know!
The grocery store just burnt down down the road and they redid it and redid the parking lot and just sat about 30 parking blocks off to the side I'm going to go hit them up for some🤙
I waited 3 days total after the pour, then pulled from the form. Then I waited another 3 days before rub brick & painting. But the longer you wait the better :)
Thank you so much Zack, you help a lot when building skate stuff, I follow u on IG and I saw your story with the curb, and I was wondering, how the hell did this man get a whole curb😂😂
Put kerosene on all your forms before pouring concrete and you wont have a problem breaking away your forms thus any concrete sticking to your framing material
Hit that "like" button under the video if you think I should install these curbs at a ditch spot! 🤘Thanks for the support.
Ahhh I'm glad I found this I was about to steal one lol
Me and the homies stole one for our park. We have 8 now lol
@Robert M Or he could just have made a video on how to steal a curb. Ahaha
Or you can call a local concrete place that makes them. Where I live you can get an 8 foot parking block for $40
Same bruv
Im making a diy, and i need a few of these, how do i get them off the ground?
This dude is dope and I just found him and he deserves way more subs
Thanks my dude!
Poured my 1st slappy curb yesterday! Thanks for the inspiration Zack Dowdy
Dude that's so fucking awesome, stoked to hear that.

Love to hear it! Some of my favorite childhood memories where skating ditches & looking for spots with my dad, stoked for you guys!
Killer post! Im by no means an expert at slappies but they teach you so much about skateboard technique. So easy to overthink them
Jon Glass So true! Wise words Jon, I’ve realized the “less is more” technique works with slappies. Still learning but seems to be the combo of confidence and letting your trucks flow into the curb vs bash.
@@ZackDowdy Definitely they make you rethink your approach I love it
Slappys helped me learn transition, like doing a 50-50 and 5-0 on the coping
bummer they cracked without the rebar, also I feel you on being impatient I think id only be able to wait for one day.
I was so bummed dude, and I lost an entire SD card filming this haha I was about just "give up" and bag the entire project until I found some clarity & remembered nothing good ever goes as planned lol. Gotta roll with the punches right?!
Zack Dowdy so happy you went through with it, you definitely made this video full of quality
no way you watch dowdy moges?
Nice video! It‘s raining today, so I started to build a slappy curb. Not finished yet, but your vid helped a lot, thank you!
I might have to actually have to try this. Thanks for the true instructions. Keep the concrete vids Going because there great
Thanks Shephred appreciate that! Next I have to install them at a spot.
Zack Dowdy, do you think that you could put it at one of your diy spots.
Shepherd Brock Yes! The ditch I build at a lot might work.
Just poured mine this past Saturday. Cant wait for it to cure. Thanks for the video really helped me

Nice one dude! Really enjoyed watching you make your one, I think next time I'm gunna just pinch one from a parking lot, make it easier for myself lol

Great build, instruction, and skating as usual. But should the paint be black or white? Why red? 🤪
Glad I found you man bouts to start a DIY on my basketball court been helping me a lot with ideas 💯
Thanks Brandon! Goodluck on the project sounds super dope.
Another Great video Zack🤙
Once you start building diy spots 👳 you can't stop 🎦 nice video . . Diy nice times
is learning slappys easier on one of those than on a curb on a sidewalk?
prolly on curbs tbh but it’s easier to move these around
Much easier, the curbs are banked so getting on is easier.. at less for me!
Zack Dowdy alright thas what i thought great vid by the way!
Did you use a mixer and drill I wonder if it woulda mixed evenly maybe even with hardener added
What did you guys use to connect the blocks and glue it to the ground?
Yo how do you make your concrete? Any ratio of sand; aggregate? Or just pure cement and water mixed?
Hell yeah Dowdy! The king of DIY!
There were 9 bags in yer trunk what were the 5 brown bags for?
great video as always
Thanks for the love homie
Can you do a how to build a concrete ramp? And a concrete manual pad

Why did you go with spray paint vs. using a roller; was it the price point?
Hello I found your channel recently man absolutely loving your work stay gnarly man 🙏
That means a lot thanks homie!
Zack Dowdy no prob man love the content🙏

Wow so nice that i found your Channel! You make absolutly good stuff i hope i can use some of yout tips in the future🛹🔥
Thanks a lot, and be careful with those fingers! ;)
can i use heavy duty PU lacquer
How much did the curb end up weighing do you think?
It's not as heavy as I'd imagine, probably around 60 lbs.
Zack Dowdy oh sick super portable
I just have red enamel will that work
That helps for sure
@@ZackDowdy yo thank you 💯
Please show more of the building process like the mixing, pouring the concrete, smoothing it out. Please
Honestly I lost a lot of the footage from the actual pour :( next time for sure!
@@ZackDowdy happens to everyone

Yes!
Living the dream! I want to skate on rock too!
What did you film this vid with ? :)
I use a Fujifilm XT-3 and an assortment of lenses :)
@@ZackDowdy Cool, thank you for answering :)
how many days did you wait between getting it out of the mold and brick/painting it?
I waited 3 days total after the pour, then pulled from the form. Then I waited another 3 days before rub brick & painting. But the longer you wait the better :)
can you 50-50 it regularly?
Ya!
Love your channel!
I guess I'll return the one I took from walmart😂
Awesome video dude really enjoying your content Definitely subbed !!
That means a lot, thank man!
If you look around at stores in your area you should be able to find one already built for around $40 at a concrete or building store
Sick vid Zack
Ayy thank you Tony
Can you do a more thorough concrete/float video? How long do you use each, when etc. And the reality of how much time it takes.
Cool stuff great video.
Thank you so much Zack, you help a lot when building skate stuff, I follow u on IG and I saw your story with the curb, and I was wondering, how the hell did this man get a whole curb😂😂
Thank you for watching Caleb, haha yeah having a curb in the backyard is really helping the mental health and break from quarantine life.
@@ZackDowdy yeah it's really hard being stuck inside all day
Fun project. Or call your local precast company and get a 6 ft parking blocking for about $40.
Why don't you put it at the top of the ditch? It would be a sick DIY spot with what you've done already!
You already know! 🤫 Hopefully soon.
hey man, cant skate for shit, i ride BMX, love all of your DIY stuff, subscribe.
diy concrete quarter pipe
That's coming soon!
I wish I watched this last year around this time lol
Plywood and salba sauce
heres an idea, go skate a curb in the street!!!
Oh wow he has a Frenchie watch out folks my girlfriend has now entered the comments :)
Super cool, but you could really just go and buy a curb for about 40$ Canadian!!
Lmao I just got one from the streets for tip get a ratchet and get your ratchet tighten with the metal line and wiggel it out it work forsure
home depot will cut the rebar for you while you are there
i wish i could be older and finally have a car and some cash so it could be soo easier
aha no hate dowdy but melamine is pronounced like mel uh mean i believe
you can go to a masonry and get a parking block for $40..if you aren't crafty. I know im not.
Good call! If you're not trying to customize anything a standard curb is golden!
You gotta redo this vid with building the form brother 😅 skipped the important part!!
Put kerosene on all your forms before pouring concrete and you wont have a problem breaking away your forms thus any concrete sticking to your framing material
Or you could go to your local concrete supplier and buy one for $30-40😂
wat lol just take one....
BRO THEY'RE FREE wtf JUST GO TO A PARKING LOT
True, but the building process is fun & you can make the curb all banked = nice for slappys.
just steal one
or...you could just steal one 😭
Where?
@@finnbrunner9020 anywhere there's parking blocks
"fairly cheap, but you could make it cheaper too" YEAH JUST FUKN STEAL ONE
You talk too mach
