How To TURN OFF Your Toyota Screen (For Better Night Time Driving)

- Here is how to turn the screen off on a 2021 Toyota Tacoma. However it works about the same for all newer Toyota models.
The method is as follows:
1.) MENU (button on side)
2.) DISPLAY (small on screen)
3.) SCREEN OFF (center of screen)

I wish there was a physical quick button for this. pushing the rightmost round tune scroll button for example. For me, most of the time, the large screen is just useless distraction, most of the info is already available on the gauge cluster. So i keep mine off mostly, glad it stays off even between drives, and glad that the parking camera still works when the screen is set to off. There could be clock tho.

Theres an option to change the brightness on your infotainment though the same process in this video. It’s not the best but it’s a good alternative if you need to use maps at night.

Is there anything we can do about the info display in between the tachometer and speedometer?
In many Toyotas you can turn it off. If you go to settings on the MID you can change some stuff but I don’t believe it can be shut off. I will double check for you.

But it lights up again if you get a phone call or text. Then you have to turn it off again, goimg through the menu, something I prefer not to do while driving. I want a default so that it’s always dark. I know I guess I’m odd.

I don’t have a display off button on my 2017 HiHy 😢 I’m ready to just tape a piece of cardboard over it…even my 2014 minivan lets me turn off that bright distraction. It’s making me insane and it’s so hard to drive at night even on the dimmest setting

@@brianruperti mine wasn't switching automatically. After playing with the screen for 2 hours we found out the dimmer switch was turned all the way up. 😆 But thanks for the helpful video. I'm thinking about making one for the dimmer switch now.

You’d have to turn off your headlights for that to happen

F that light up. I spent too much time clicking through my Camry menu to only find the option to lower the screen brightness and contrast. I don't need that lame ass screen. I wanna sit in my car in the dark! 🌚

Ditto. I wish I could turn off the blue buttons as well. They are just as annoying. Not finding anything anywhere though, unfortunately.
Best you can do is use the speedo dimmer to reduce the brightness of them.
(Twist the trip/odo stalk counter clockwise a quarter turn repeatedly and watch everything get dimmer with each twist)

Thank you. I did not know that the dash dimmer dimmed the infotainment buttons as well. It may not be perfect, but pretty sure that's the best I can do without actual modification, so I'll take it.
