Enjoy your tips. I was a rancher for decades and did multi-terrain on the ranch with heavy 4 x 4s. Just got a Taco off road access cab as I need bed space.
@@brianruperti White, however I like the Army green better. Did not have a whole lot of choice here. My mileage is as stated and beats the hell out of my F-150 that got 12.9 mpg going down hill ...
@@biggusbestus551 The white is sweet! You’ll hide scratches and dust WAY better than the green, which acts as a giant chalk board. And yes I romped on mine a little this morning and finished with 20.2mpg!
Thank you for the video. One issue I’ve had is that no one explains that you don’t actually press the gas or brake while using the crawl control which is something you did mention. I plan on testing this out today near the Valley of Fire in Nevada.
While doing this process. Should the brake be consistently pressed down until I’m ready for the truck to move? Can I change the MTS and speed while the truck is already moving? I’m just way too worried about hurting my transfer case. Also, this seems like a dumb question, but I thought the truck should be in N while in 4lo. Is that not the case?
Great questions. You can change the mts and crawl speed while moving. It’s just a fancy off-roading cruise control. Going into and exiting 4Lo requires neutral. But to use 4Lo you must pick drive or reverse
@brianruperti i wanted to just get familiar with the system maybe I shouldn't have tried it on flat pavement but I engaged the crawl and heard some unwelcoming grind sounds 😅 next time I'll try in mud or gravel
You’re welcome! So for snow driving I don’t use the CRAWL or MTS unless I’m on an off-roading trail to which I’ll switch it to more of a mud and sand and have had success so far with that. I am still gaining experience snow off-roading. But for commuter driving and in town, I just rock around in 2WD until it gets slippery then 4Hi at a reserved speed :-)
@@Alvisr7 I only suggest doing it in 4 low and go VERY slow. It’s designed only for getting you out from being stuck or for extreme slow speed off-roading
what selection is best for snowy, icy ditch? I dont offroad much but the one time I was stuck it was because I swerved around a deer walking down a snowy road in blizzard conditions.
I tried climbing a steep hill in crawl control, and the truck went half way up and sputtered to a stop, even with the dial set to max crawl control speed. Is that normal? I had to give it gas to continue climbing the hill.
@@brianruperti That's good to know, thanks. I always assumed it was one or the other, but not both. I'll have to pay attention to that next time I'm off road.
i have a 2018 trd how the hell did you get 301 miles on ur truck when filling up i only get 255 miles when i bought it i got 330 i mean i do have 32 inch ATS on truck but idk if that could do it
Why would I put the truck in 4low, then set my terrain to sand and dirt? 4 low seems a little excessive for sand and dirt?...even loose rock. Or am I just over thinking classic 4 low?
@@brianruperti I got a TRD off-road Xp package with a long bed. super white. I really wish I could have gotten the Leather package and Lunar rock color. But I guess it was going to take way too long for everything I wanted but I found this one that I got to be fit.

Glad to help!
very quick, easy, and to the point! Awesome, quick video to how how to use these features!
Thanks!
Just bought a 2023 TRD, thanks for the explanation. Now to put her to the test!

jus got a 2023 trd pro and im overwhelmed with all this it was a great help

Thank you.
I’ve never taken my TRD off roading, but this summer 4 of us will be taking our TRDs off road.
Very nice

Great description. Just what I was looking for
Thank you
Thanks for the video man. That crawling brake sound scared the hell out of me. Thought my gears were committing rope-neck

Can u please explain the steps on how to properly get out of crawl control?

When you are not using MTS or Crawl Control just driving Highway or City
does matter where Know position is located?@@brianruperti
When would be a good situation to use the crawl control

4L

Are you wearing a mask, by yourself, inside your vehicle?
Do all years of Tacoma have the terrain mode. Does manual have terrain mode.
Not all years have it. Only the TRD Offroad and TRD pro have it. Manual trans does not have it. Hope that helps.
Strange there isn’t a snow/ice mode. Also, does MTS not work in 4hi or does it just turn off when you switch?
Only in 4lo
Well done ! Short and Sweet.
Thanks!
Always wondered is it ok to use diff lock with multi terrain
Yes I do it all the time
Cool, thanks
Yup you can! It will help keep those wheels going together so if one comes up off the earth, your grounded wheel powers you out!

Mud and sand. Lock the rear diff. Depending on tires you may stay stuck in a snowy ditch. Be careful mate

Interesting. I’m not sure. This is the first time I’ve heard this.
First time i heard this also..any updates?
If you are in MTS then go to Crawl Control, doesn't the switch to Crawl Control shut off the MTS or is the MTS mode still engaged?
MTS is still engaged. It still shows the symbol of the terrain I selected

If you’re going at lower speeds, perhaps up hill or down hill, and want the torque.
Locking Differential for Rear???
On offroad and pro only

Anyone know if crawl is wise to use if you have a steep hill with snow?
Go for it! If it can keep the throttle stable for you, it should work great.

Mogul is a series of bumps and uneven terrain

Does the TRD Offorad have the multi-terrain monitor (cameras) or is that for the Pro model?
The offroad PREMIUM has those, as well as the pro.
