    Thing is, you need ranged to keep it threatening. That said, this is the clans. That’s not a problem. If you need a cheap solution, just buy a battle cobra. Or a griffin IIC prime/4. Or a shadowhawk IIC 2 if we want to keep to the faction (2x ER larges, 3 small pulses, 1 er small. That’s perfect for covering the weaknesses of the kodiak)

      @@Harpy_Explains something I think I need to stress with the clans, is that you don’t need to spend 2000+ BV per unit just to get a clan star. You will be still paying the piper, but good decent mediums from the clans can at least hold some sway in combat. AND DON’T BUY A VAPOR EAGLE.

    That damage is criminal. The Kodiak's model is legit so good. It has such an imposing presence that is truly spectacular.

    Ah, the dreaded red text of something going horribly wrong in MegaMek. I probably have the log somewhere from my most recent game. DCMS (myself) vs. Smoke Jaguars. My command lance consisted of 4 Hatamotos of varying loadout. Despite two of them carrying no ammo, and one of them having CASE, every single one of them Stackpoled on me, hilariously destroying many of his Elemental points and damaging his 'mechs each and every time.

  • @thatorangeguy3646
    @thatorangeguy3646 2 месяца назад +7

    another important thing to note is elementals (or other clan power armor) are an excellent choice with this thing because its points cost is somewhere between "you caint have it" & "the fuck you mean a 10,000 point game? i only have two hunchbacks!"
    also if your fighting this thing, while fast compared to IS assaults its still as stubby as an atlas when it comes to range. just bring some crunchy single damage weapons or even a couple VTOLS to force it to turn around or take backshots. for all its might fast units and long range will bully the fat bear.

  • @bthsr7113
    @bthsr7113 2 месяца назад +3

    Don't forget your ERLL. Sure, it's too hot to run in CQB when you have all the other toys to choose from once the enemy is 12 hexes or closer, and all your weapons are in range, but if you ignore that ERLL, you max range is 15 hexes. So keep your opponents from feeling safe at standoff range.

    It better be a nightmare given the thing is 2927 BV, which is an insane amount of BV investment for one unit. As shown its not immune to headshots nor fire. The Clan Invasion as a whole is pretty much an advert for inferno missiles, because most clan mechs don't like having an additional 15 heat shoved on them.

    • @Harpy_Explains
      @Harpy_Explains  2 месяца назад +1

      @JH-ph4qb you're paying an atlas + a blackjack for it, and I think the kodiak can get more work done. Also, I got headshot twice in a row during that game, but I forgot to screenshot the first one

    I always felt the video games lacked the effects of combined arms warfare to really showcase how crazy it is to be on the receiving end of a Clanner attack.
    In every mechwarrior video game, you're always missing the unorthodox tactics that have been used in the tabletop to level the playing field - or massively stack it in the favour of the clanners. So the Inner Sphere lance leaders (the players) are never forced to experience the hard thinking they have to do in order to overcome what the leaders in the fictional universe and tabletop have to contend with.

    The Kodiak isn't even the scariest assault mech that CGB has made. If you want to play with something truly heinous, try loading up a Mastodon- the firepower of the prime is lower but it only builds heat when it's guaranteed to be dealing 40+ damage to some poor bastard and it packs some nasty survivability tricks (CASE II and reinforced structure)

    Smokey you better stay strapped or your ass is . . .gonna get called out for its baffling bad design decisions.
    Four tons of ammo and half of them are for the two streak 6s? If you fire both of them every freakin turn, and if they both hit every freakin turn its FIFTEEN rounds of shootin. Whereas the ultra AC20 gets a mere ten rounds if you feed it a starvation diet and only five if you set the fire selector to 'PARTY HARD'
    Not that it has the heat capacity to fire the auto cannon even if it's set to BORING. Let alone the pair of streak 6s or the ERLL. The mech can't even walk and fire it's brace of arm ER medium lasers and stay heat neutral.
    So what do you do to fix this? First off, trade the ultra for the LBX flavor of 20 autocannnon. Not only are the heat levels much easier to stomach but you're going to be ripping huge holes in people's armor and being able to also fire cluster shells is swank. The second derp bear major malfunction to fix is those oversupplied streak sox shooters. Trade em in for a triplet of 4 packs and have em share a single ton of ammo. Then take that spare ton and either add an extra heatsink, upgrade one medium to pulse, or add in another ton of AC ammo.

    Great mech and good strat. I know you are playing by the rules but this is an example of why I never liked elementals. Basically, for Elementals to be viable they write the rules to allow them to "cheat". Why are they harder to hit while faster units aren't? The rules say so. Why are they allowed to do special attacks forbidden to other units (despite mechs having better targetting)? The rules say so. Why are their weapons mech scale but regular infantry are not? The rules say so.

    • @hollyone75
      @hollyone75 2 месяца назад

      Leg attacks have nothing to do with targeting, they represent the infantry climbing on to a meks legs and peeling armor off to try and break the actuators underneath.
