  • Resident Evil, known in Japan as Biohazard, is a Japanese horror video game series and media franchise created by Capcom. It consists of survival horror, third-person shooter, and first-person shooter games. The franchise has expanded into a live-action film series, animated films, television series, comic books, novels, audio dramas, and other media and merchandise.
    The first Resident Evil was created by Shinji Mikami and Tokuro Fujiwara and released for the PlayStation in 1996. It is credited for defining the survival horror genre and returning zombies to popular culture. With Resident Evil 4 (2005), the franchise shifted to more dynamic shooting action; it influenced the evolution of the survival horror and third-person genres, popularizing the "over-the-shoulder" third-person view. Resident Evil 7: Biohazard (2017) moved the series to a first-person perspective.

      Photogrammetry has nothing to do with a games engine... that's just a ignorant statement, photogrammetry is only used as reference tool to help create high and low poly meshes... this is all done outside of anything to do with a game engine. unreal 5 has support for importing photo meshes into its sdk but it still leaves a lot to be desired and is basically used for rocks and such, hardly a useful tool when a 3d artist can create multiple procedural rock meshes and textures In a program like blender than it takes a photographer to dick around with a camera, converting raw into png and than arranging all the files in a program.

      @@mitri5389 You are partially correct, but photogrammetry allows developers to turn those realistic images into assets, which are then used through a video-game engine. Most of the assets in RE7 were scanned into the game. Photogrammetry plays a big part in making these assets look as realistic as possible :p

      Yeah, then i see people that complain for some horror games because they are not scary, also i heard that originally in resident evil 4 there would have been children zombies, but they were cut for some rules on the children, but i can't really understand it, it's a game, it everything fake, what are the problems if you put zombie children IN A VIDEOGAME, it's not that it also happens in real life, i can't understand it at all

      @@RapidCrafter honestly. Thats what we wanted for Resident evil 8 (Village), but capcom screwed it up badly. I am still going to ger Re9, but by this point. I feel that the series should just die and end already.

      yeah like what is this "too scary" it is scary for a reason. What they should do ig if that really the case. Make there be an in game option to turn off how scary the game is removing whatever is considered "scary" rather than butcher the whole game for the sake of it. I still enjoyed resident evil 7 but it a shame....

    Man.. it seems like they even dialed back the scary for their original vision for 7. Shame I think most of this cut content would have been amazing to experience. Those human like, and female molded would have given me nightmares... and that marguerite with the ghoulish face would have been too scary for some people hahah. She is already the creepiest one to fight.

    I personally think that the Eveline cut content would've brought another aspect to the horror depicted in the game. If you consider what she was created to do, and why she became the way she did, it would bring upon a more psychological type of horror to the game, kind of like Ethan/the player chasing Angie in Village on the Beneviento Household. Not necessarily scary of itself, but once you realise what's happening, it shakes you.

      I think Eveline was the weakest part of RE7 by far, besides the ship itself of course. FEAR had done better with Alma in my opinion.

    The fact that they only stuck with Marg, Jack and Lucas and STILL pulled off that horror vibe, speaks volumes! If they would've added even ONE of the cut family members, this game would damn near be the scariest game ever. So much potential in all of this cut content 😳

    Nah I personally think Marge's form in the final game is scarier than actually making her turn into a spider. I think it fits perfectly into uncanny valley territory. It's the only part of the game that actually terrified me. The over-the-top grotesque enemy designs never hit me like that.

      @@schlad3r198 it's funny how some of these people in the comment section just finished playing RE7, 8 and calling the games not scaring, boring or most in important "bring back the old style" or "old horror elements" when resident evil games were never scary to begin with, just infuriating to play because it was really hard to shoot and to avoid enemies, while the camera was in one position where it was very awkward. RE7 and 8 has to be the most intense entries them all so where are all these people getting these ideas from. Someone comment to agree please

      If they did put a female mold variant in the game I feel like it would appear in the destroyed ship wear we have flashbacks of mia and when she is looking for Ethan she sees a different kind of mold creature a darker and thinner one. When she tries to shot it the bullets just go through it and every now and then you can hear this female mold trying to talk or say something but it comes out all wrong and sounds more like a howling noise instead talk about creepy 😰

    I want a disgustingly gorey, extremely dark and edgy, terrifying and mindbending, just purely horrific resident evil. I want one that needs to be censored in some places because it's too realistic and upsetting. I would love to just play something from this franchise that results in me doubling my therapy sessions bc it awakens some visceral fear in me, much like the original games did when I was honestly too young to play them.
    It makes me sad when they dial back the scares bc ppl can't take it/expect a baby game like RE4 👁👄👁 no check point after every loading screen? Too hard and scary. An enemy that isn't just a moldy dude? Too scary. It's really annoying to me when someone gets a horror game and then says its too scary 👁👄👁

      I'm pretty sure that not even Capcom would want to go that far, they do need to make money and that involves making sure their games can be accessed in all countries, especially countries like China which already has brutal censorship policies for media when it comes to blood and corpses.

    The fact that RE7 is so scary is what makes the game memorable for me. The jumpscares and creepy atmosphere really set it apart from the rest of the franchise. Even though I think the game is scary enough, after watching these creative concepts I wish they hadn't toned it down.

    *I can imagine the creature kept in the basement being grandpa. I know Evelyn turns out to be "grandma"--an awesome twist to the game not knowing they never had their grandmother/mother there, but tere would've been grandpa would had terminal cancer before being turned and the mold had transformed him drastically because of how the mutation affected cancer cells within the body. So grandpa would've been this forty foot grotesque beast with a gaping maw of a mouth, but the chin being bifurcated all the way down to his gut where the cancer was, and it was all gaping, with twisted bone of his ribs looking like giant teeth and the mold spilling out and his guts being almost sentient, whipping and lashing at you. And the bottom half of his body would've been just a pile of bodies that he's eaten stuck to him because of the outpouring of the black goo mold from his stomach maw. And the basement where he dwells is flooded and very dank, full of mold and dry rot wood and the ceiling above sagging and vines erupting through the walls from outside, the windows being caked in black mold, and barely any light getting in. Man, that could've had a lot of potential.*

    I completely agree about the boat being the weakest part of the game. My issue I think was the enemies just being the same as they were before. Like in every other resident evil game I prefer certain sections over others but each act introduces a treasure trove of content. I think they could have saved some of these concepts like the creepy female moulded coming from the ceiling to keep up the tension even in the boat section. I also really liked the concept of like a beast they were feeding in the basement. I kind of got the impression there would be something horrifying when I saw that dissection room thing in the cage for the first time with the hanging bodies and stuff. Then, it just turned out to be a plain old boss battle with Jack (though I do love jack and the chainsaw duel)

    I feel those that needed a dial back in the horror definitely couldnt have been true fans of the series.. we remember RE for its scariest moments, enemy reveals, tedious puzzles, and walking through eerie corridors afraid of whats around every corner smh.. thankfully it wasnt all bad and yet still disappointed some of the coolest ideas ive seen in a while couldnt make the final cut because somebodies scared… its horror wtf did you expect

      They weren't all that scary outside RE1, 0, 2 and CV if not counting 7. 7's Fps definitely makes it a scarier experience

    These female molded creatures and Mrs. Baker in spider form looking creepy as hell. I also like the concept of the main hall, the ship and that monster under the house.
    Resi4, 5, 2 Remake, 7 they all had amazing cut content that seemed even better than the actual game. The same when it comes to the music of some artists. In many cases the unreleased and cut content seems to be the best.

    Damn, the Marge they cut out looked creepy as hell. The hollowed out eyes and mouth looks so unsettling. I was never scared of Marge, I just thought she was disgusting but imagine her chasing you with that face from the cut content. Holy crap

    I want someone to spend some time remaking RE7, but including all of the cut content. (I.E. the cut family members, the cut locations, the cut enemies, etc...) I might do this myself later, but I'm super busy making another big RE7 mod...

    Thats why I have hope for the DeadSpace remake. The developers seem insanely passionate about it, so they won't scale down the scarieness of the game. I want to properly soil myself at 3 am in a dark room.

    I could really picture out zombies in game.
    Perfect place of them would be the wrecked ship inside the ship there are few cells that holds few zombie test subjects and they will be covered in few sea weeds and would be mostly look something like Davey Jones crew members.

    Fun Fact : In test footage, originally Margret was going to be the seeker enemy that replaced the dog until they turned her into a side boss.
    She would patrol the manor and scream / point where you were, and Jack would give chase, making her a cowardly character. This was cut because they wanted to make her more aggressive and give less focus on Jack, and add more family enemies to the game.

    Another fact : Molded were ment to hear the player breathe. Ethan would have to hold his breath to stealth around molded before that was cut, due to playtesters developing Claustrophobia and getting too panicked during runs.

    That Evelyn piece was in the final game. It was shown in the end credits and I'm pretty sure it's one of the pictures you find in the lab towards the end of the game.

      Yea I’m pretty sure it is. I was mostly referring to the fact that we never got to see any actual cutscenes with Eveline in the lab. Everything was told through pictures and notes unfortunately :/

    Resident evil 7 was held back by two things to make it the best re game.
    1. Lack of enemy variety.
    2. The ship area.
    Sad the game didn’t get baked a little longer

    maybe its just me but i thought the ship part of the game was the scariest having no weapons in the dark while trying to find items with monsters around was the only challenging part of the game.

    I really like how 7 and village manage to somehow revamp its horror factor..
    but even tho the other titles are more into action.. I still want to know or provide them proper endings and focus... like so many questions need to be answered on the main line characters like leon chris jill and claire's story line...

    There was no general cut content of the base game in general? Cause the playable demo was completely different, both in vibes and content than the launched game was. (Besides the house itself).
    The demo made the upcoming game look like it was gonna focus more so on mystery and paranormal related activity, with ghost-like appritions and mannequins that would move when you return to certain rooms. The demo itself was scarier than I personally thought the game is.

    I don't mind that they didn't went with the cut content version of margaret baker instead that's more spider-like even though I think that would've been cooler. I am however disappointed by the excuse that they had to tone it down because its "too scary". its a bloody survival horror game. also, apart from the bosses, re7 could've really used some more enemy variety, and actual zombies(as well as "the creature") would've helped in that aspect than us just fighting slight variations of molded. even just the female molded would do. while still molded but at least one more variation.

    I love RE7 it scared me when it first came out because I was younger but then 2 years later RE2 Remake came out and I fell in love with the whole series and now RE7 is definitely one of favorite

    It wouldn’t have surprised me if Zombies made it originally. Considering the skirmish regarding them around Tall Oaks or China, you never know if some coulda slipped away.
    The Zombie populace has always been unpredictable to me in that you never truly know how many there are.

    That was really interesting! And also a bit sad. My one gripe with this game (Other than the pointless "choice" option at the end of the game) was that there wasn't enough enemy variety. Its a shame to know that they were so close to fixing that issue. Oh well though, I still love this game reguardless!

    About the ship being the weakest section in the game, this isn’t exclusive to 7. Nearly all RE games have weaker final areas.

      I think the problem with the final act in 7 is that they didn’t really introduce anything new for those sections. Many RE game’s final areas introduced a new enemy type(s) and as a result a new challenge to keep the ending section at least a bit interesting, but in 7 it was just the same four basic enemy types you’ve already fought before.

      I was thinking the same thing. In RE4 the island portion is considered the weakest, in the RE2 remake it's the sewers, in RE7 it's the ship, and in RE8 I would say it's either the factory or when you play as Chris.

    This is what I love about concept art in games makes me wonder how the game would have played or it would have used some of these ideas 🥰 I also think re8 was pretty scary with the giant mutant baby and the werewolve/lycans bursting through walls and doors jump scaring you.

    I remember playing this whole game while i was sick one day; I was wearing a watch that tracks heart beat and since I was sick it was already pretty high so playing this game made my heart monitor beat at me... it didnt help and I almost passed out

    I thought RE8 was going to be about Ethan Winters decent into madness, before it came out I remember hearing about parts of the game where Ethan hallucinates. I was interested in the concept of a mentally unstable Ethan stumbling around a dark village not even able to trust his own senses along with being attacked by various horrors. I thought he was going to interact more with villagers and be in some kind of who who done it situation where everyone is on edge about who to trust.

    I first played Re 7 just before Re Village came out, and it was way scarier. Village is a great game, but I felt like the "survival horror" elements had been dialed down compared to 7. Village felt like a grab bag of horror settings that ended up not hitting as hard for me. The atmosphere is way creepier in 7 too. I hope the next game will be scarier. :)

    I am convinced that Capcom cut a good majority of those so people would not complain to them that they're having nightmares because... Dang it, its crazy after watching the video how much more scarier the game would be, if Capcom did not cut the content.
    If the game was not known to be horrifying at that point, I know if Capcom kept the cut content into the game, it would've been known to be above horrifying at that point. 😂 Great video by the way. 👍🔥

    It's understandable how much trouble they had figuring out what to put in and out of the game considering how poor 6 turned out aswell as the new pov, but I would have loved to see margarite be even scarier.

    I still can’t believe they made RE7 in VR. It’s one of the scariest flat games, and to transfer it into VR is any horror fan’s dream. Facing Jack and the rest of the family, exploring the Baker residents, shooting and running against enemies, absolutely thrilling. I wish they would have put all this cut content to make it that much scarier. Same with RE8, and hopefully that goes to PSVR2!

    Do you know from your reserch if True Detective (1) was a sort of inspiration? Both stories happen in Luisiana and there are shots in the intro of the game similar to the show, and I always thought that the Bakers family and they´re house is very similar to the Childres´s in True detective!       I personally think a female mold sounds interesting to see maybe during mia winters in the ship when she sees all the illusions she see a mold creature that is different from the other ones and when mia tries to attract this female mold the shots go through it.

    with how much i absolutely adore re7, I still wish all of this could have been in the game. Would have made it even better. Part of me wishes I hadn't watched because my gosh it would have made the game so incredibly better. Just the art style of the characters and how extra dark and nightmareish everything looked...wow. I would pay retail price or more for an uncut version of the game with all of the scrapped stuff added/changed.

    7 is the first game of the franchise that I can remember scaring me since the original. Disappointing that they dialed it down in the end before the release. I can only imagine if they released it as it originally was. Very much looking forward to the remake of 4. I’m hoping they don’t scrap a lot of the original content and visuals like they did with the remake of 3. I enjoyed the remake but it was insanely short and leaves me feeling unsatisfied every time I beat it. Whereas the original 3 was just incredible.

    It makes sense they'd model zombies when configuring their proprietary tech - they had more than Resi 7 in mind, and knew at some point they were going to go back to zombies whether the 2 remake was just a gleam in someone's eye or further along in the planning stages by then.
    Don't miss the forest for the trees, is my point pretty much. Overall, it's actually less potentially wasteful to troubleshoot zombies for the new tech than what was by then a new, unproven branch of the resident evil baddie family tree.

      This guy just yanked away the popularity he should’ve deserved. EB has a few dozen k subscribers, this guy has six digit numbers, and stole his idea while he was working on this exact video. EB’s RE7 cut content has around 20k views, this has ten times that. Fuck this scummy bastard taking away hard work and ideas from people,
