I’d actually watched the VOD about a week-ish ago. Gave me a big boost of motivation for character-designing! Super appreciate the summary, so I can get that quick fix of motivation! ✨
Ive watched this a few months ago but the editing in this is incredibly charming! Ive always thought your model was adorable and your voice is so pretty!
Already brainstorming for a future redebut, this was really insightful to watch! 😉 Realizing that my character design also signifies content I'll make also helps me fliter out unnecessary details. That, combined with what you talked about (silhouette, details, top priority) will be a big help on my next try. Thanks again, will definitely be checking out your story
Great video!! I mostly use these types of videos to get better at character designing even tho its not recommended, its alot more easier for me to follow. Thank you for making it easy to understand how to make designs (English is not my strong suit so the grammar might be a little bad)
wahhh It was always a dream of mine to become a creator that hopefully is able to reply to everyone!! (excluding hate ofc) so I'm glad I can still fulfill this ideal of mine! everyone's so nice in the comments and/or has questions which I rlly want to reply to, so I always do my best to respond!!

It’s soooo prettyyy and unique. :’( I usually never ever comment on videos (especially when it’s not in my first language) but i felt like i had to for once because i genuinely liked this video a lot. The way you explained everything was very interesting and clear, so thank you for that !
I remember watching the VOD for this a while back. It's very nice and useful having an abridged version of it as a refresher. Thank you for making these.
Thank you for watching the VOD !!!! I meant to do something like this for a while now, so I'm happy i finally got around to commission my editor JM for this
Great video!! Honestly super lucky to have found this when I was revising why my design felt so empty. You have such a entertaining way of explaining, it was super helpful

ive been working on my own design for a vtuber as well! (my pfp lol) and ive been struggling with shape and color, especially with the clothing, which is rather simple. This video was super clear and easy to follow! glad you popped up on my feed lol your model looks super cute too!
Very informative! I'd say a lot of the rules here apply to most character design not just vtubers. Like that character with the hair hands you showed - she follows the rules, works for her medium, and her design matches the theming you gave her, I'd say she is well designed. And I love your vtuber model :)
Thank you so much!! And yes definitely most if not all "rules" I talked about come from my character design studies ! I just had Vtubers as focal point here, and thus went more into the branding side of things ! But thank you so much ❤️🩹🥺🥺🥺 im rlly happy to hear that!!
I'm working on my first 2d model, and all the parts are lined and I'm only coloring it now and kind of second guessing my original color palette idea but I think I'm gonna go with it anyway! This is all really good advice, and I'm gonna take it to heart
I think back then I tried to go for a decora vibe where it is essential but I failed to capture decora-esque elements in the rest of the design so it was just cluttered sadly >-
Thats true! Im not too familiar with Unnamed but I know they have like an inverted (?) color design I believe, and/or are very monochromatic if I recall correctly? It can definitely work as well if done right!
Yume, I just wanna say thank you for sharing your TOS on your Twitter a while ago. It's a good template for me to learn from when I set up my own TOS. So thank you!!
ancjndis this video was actually so amazing!! informative and ur voice is nice to listen to c: also your character is so pretty i might actually cry, all this pink is making me happy
God I really love your Vtuber design and the art style!! (immediately followed you and the artist smh) This also helps greatly with the model I'm designing rn ^^
Thumbnail alone caught my attention, and I ended up enjoying this vid. Not gonna be vtuber but I am an amateur artist so some of these are very good points to keep in mind
@@yumekuzukawa menhera nurse with a sleep deprived looking eyes is something I never thought I need, and your voice just fits it so much Idk if you ever think of asmr stream or just voiceover stream where you read script? I'd love to listen to your voice
@@RandyAT dhjfgsdf thank you so much??? omg!!! I do want to do more Voice-over work, since I loved doing that for my lore video, ASMR might be difficult because I believe I'd need a better mic/surroundings that are fitting and I know from friends that its rather difficult to do >-< but maybe in the future
Im all for one following their dreams but since you're a minor id advise you to be extra careful in the Vtubing space as fans can be very parasocial, or downright creepy if you happen to attract a weird crowd, so make sure to have proper rules in place when streaming, and do not EVER give out too much irl information about yourself. Like in every online space I'd say exhibit caution and don't try to jump into friendships, if something feels off, listen to your gut and avoid people who have a mainly lewd vibe to them etc !!! Stay safe cause sometimes the Vtubing sphere can be very dangerous but even more so if you're underage 😭regardless I don't want to fearmonger as there are also a lot of kind ppl in the scene !! I just figured i should mention some things here and there one should be careful with! I do Hope you can have fun and create a design you like 🙏🏻❤️🩹 and when you become an adult you could go all in if you like streaming! That's my number one advice: stream first before investing any kind of money to check if you like it!
I would really appreciate a tutorial more in deph on clothes creation, how you decide what accessories to add to your clothes, where to find clothes inspo. and how to put it together in a way that fits. Whenever I look at clothes tutorial they always mention a theme and what the character needs to do. which is really helpful, but Id appreciate one that goes more in deph on accessories and stuff that stand out and where to find/figure out what to add, you know theres a theme, but you cant think of what could fit with the theme.
I could try to make one! I have a few Tutorials I'd like to do or feedback streams, just..Time is my enemy wuah.. But maybe I can give you some help in form of written text! What helps with coming up with outfits, is, going away from the notion of "drawing/designing" - Meaning that you should look into real life fashion, real life models or influencers who wear said fashion! Living in Japan made this a whole lot easier for me as I can just go to Harajuku and meet incredibly dressed individuals with an amazing sense of style that inspires me, or go to Shops like LaForet which have a good assortment of stores with interesting clothing combinations or pieces that are unique looking. So essentially, my favorite clothing styles would be "tenshi kawaii" and "shiro lolita" or "2000s goth" - so I tend to look into those clothing styles for inspiration! There are also amazing indie artists who publish their own clothing stuff, one example is pinktaho - Naomi Nikola with her brand Omi Omi! She produces AMAZING clothes which inspire me a lot. So basically, look into real people for inspiration for clothing, you can find them on instagram, twitter or maybe check out apps like "tokyofashion" as they showcase individuals visiting harajuku with amazing and unique outfit combinations! Fashion shows of Paris or something like that are also interesting to watch when its ode couture as its really unique! I guess the process I follow is, looking for a theme. One Outfit I recently designed was a straitjacket outfit, so I looked into strait jackets and kept it very simple, but I wanted it to have a bit of a "twist" so I added exaggerated long sleeves. I then took inspo from moe 2000s animes and added big locks to the outfit even if they dont make a lot of sense bc 00s characters often times have big items of some sort on their head as accessories! I also re-used the heart shaped buckles of my current main outfit, to have a sense of familiarity, and bc I love shiro-lolita I kept the outfit mainly white! Another example of an outfit I designed was alice in wonderland themed. I looked into rococo styled dresses, gave it a more modern approach, looked into patterns that would be 'alice themed' such as the striped socks etc and went for alice-inspired accessories like the keys and such even tho Og alice does not have a key in her design! Lots of stuff like that! If you want to do something really unique you can also combine certain designs! There are so many cool fashion styles out there, be it western or asian styles, one could play with or combine together! So for summary: Look up a style/vibe you'd like to go for. Set a base design: F.e. base dress, and then layer ontop of it (add skirt, add straps, add puffy sleeves etc/buttons whatever) Add acent items or accessories, even if its not something that would normally considered one! (like my big locks I put on the head f.e.) This way you can "build" an outfit brick by brick! Make sure to ignore colors or patterns, that you can add later, for starters its about the shapes! I am sorry for such a long reply but I hope it helps since Idk when or if I have time to make a video abt it ;;;
I learned so much from watching this! I am currently working an a character but then got worried because the characters style is decora and her style and accessories were all over the place :”( so this video help a lot!
Ohh Decora is a very challenging Design to make for sure! But I'm glad the video helped, good luck with your character design I'm sure it'll turn out lovely!!!
Thank you so much!!! I hope this can actually help >///< Unfortunately, I'm not that familiar with the RUclips Gaming space, since I primarily stream on twitch, and I wont lie, there is a bias out there fore the conventionally attractive anime style, that attracts most people, if you go for a more westernized style or realism style, it could be more niche! But ultimately, thats what you want to do, form your own niche and attract like-minded people, thats the "secret" of forming a community you actually feel comfortable with/around! So If you're a bit unsure how this could affect your popularity, id say give it a try either way! Dont sell yourself out for the sake of popularity! In my case I'm just admittedly also biased towards cute anime faces LMAO THAT BEING SAID! There are many creators out there whose models dont reflect said style, and they went with a simplistic or realistic styled approach and can still shine through because personality, innovation and maybe even skill is what keeps ppl hooked, regardless of how your model presents itself! The examples you mentioned though, people love elf ears and claws with a fade out color! so I do believe you actually dont have to be worried too much!! ALSO THANK YOU
As someone who is trying to design a character so it can get made into an actual VTuber good gracious this was helpful. Your model is very interesting as well ^w^
I always make the joke to people who are designing character/vtubers. I always told them "go design it like your designing a touhou character." The reason i said it is, if you ever compair the official art and the fan art, you can see that the design is able to fit in to all sort of medium. So my advice, it will be a bonus if your design can easily fit in all sort of medium!
True ! 2hou has very recognizable designs that withstood the test of time imo! Its also good to think how your design translates into different mediums used by vtubers, such as 3D for VRC or Games such as Game Mods !!
The furry thing really is sad. considering people love anthro characters from media such as rocket racoon from marv. But if they see it online / anthro ocs, they assume the worst just because of stereotypes that aren't true to most furries.
It doesnt HAVE to hold you back! Buffpup is a very famous Anthro/Furry Vtuber for example, but I just mentioned it so ppl are aware that it is a niche regardless and it can be more difficult because of it >
In my experience, everyone is happy about fanarts as long as the character resembles their design! Details or not! I hope you can have fun and simplify the design a bit if its too complex
Recently i have noticed in my drawings that it was becoming slightly bland or too much details to redraw. This was not onty helpful for emerging vtubers, but is also useful to us artists making characters. ❤❤ because of this video... I kinda want to design my own vtuber that I probably would never use for streaming purposes. Thank you so much for the advice!!❤❤❤
WAHH thank you so much im so glad to hear! I hope you'll have fun pouring in new life into your character designs!! Def try designing your own vtuber even if its just for fun !! (You could make it an OC that is a Vtuber themselves LMFAO make them have a bland irl character design and thats their persona, think needy girl overdose! >:3c )

@@ShatteredVerre Thank you so much! If you'd like you can keep an eye out on my twitter for future design submission ratings, since the demand is high I was debating what to do and got advised to just do it on stream! @@yumekuzukawa Alright, ty for the heads up! I'd love to get multiple opinions so whenever you are doing one of those streams I'd love to be one of the reviewed
Your guides are not bad at all. Although just for fun, they simply gave me something to refer. This is for 2d design, but also refer to 3d design, I think, hmhmhm... Great lecture, cheers!!
Thank you! I think you can apply most of the things I mentioned onto 3D environments as well ! "Rule" number one was to keep the medium in mind (for example game) so it should be applicable for game characters too 🥺❤️🩹
@@yumekuzukawa Well, I have seen game characters with simple clothing design, so it depends on individuals. I'm about to add assets to my simple vroid model, but after seeing your guides, I thinking maybe my model can be upgraded later, while maintaining the concept of simplicity, hmhmhm...
@@yumekuzukawa Yes, I totally agreed about it. I looked at those designs, I asked myself: Do my character have to be also complicated like them? Definitely not! I saw your first design is so complicated, with so many plasters. Anyway, don't give up, keep giving these lectures, if you have more info and knowledge. Thanks for your knowledge to share with us.
@@flowersandcheesecake1710 of course! you don't HAVE to box yourself into two themes but just check if it's a little cohesive / works together! in your example i think it does !!
AmaIng vid! But I got a question, if I made a design and already started uploading with it (on my other channel) will it be weird to suddenly change the design?
Not at all! You can always go for a rebrand! There are aspects you could keep from your previous design (such as maybe for example hair color or eye color) to call back to your old design, or you can go full rebrand! Important would be to inform your community about this and be aware that rebrands can go both ways, you could either gain more followers who are interested in your new design or weed out those who were only interested in your old design, which can be hard but i think it would be worth it to go forward with something you feel comfy with and love!
Omg, that's a cool video and I love your design, but now I understand that my idea accidentally overlapses with yours (the femboy theme, haircut) and I'm stuck again with finding themes for my character to make it unique, with which I'm struggling for a long time now Do you have some advice maybe for how to find a suitable themes for vtuber design? I saw that it should be multilayered, like 2 themes or so, and that you can take ideas from your traits, but I can't really find anything in myself that would describe me in two words. I have too much going on and I'm not good in anything in particular QwQ

I'm just a normal human actually, but many said I remind them of an Axolotl, they're so cute! If I were to rebrand as an animal hybrid Vtuber I'd probably go for that though!! also thank you

Depends on the exact shades of course but I'd say sure it goes together well! White is a good neutral base, depending on the saturation of the blue and purple, they can compliment each other and harmonize with the rosé!
I personally think you got no restrictions on color, but I made a small color palette of colors I think would look super cute in combination together with dark skin especially! I went ahead and put down some darker skin tones, from tan to black (since idk your skin tone >
@@aikocryptid Thank you!! I do believe lots of people would watch a furry vtuber though!! Best example I can give is Buffpup! I doooo believe (correct me if i'm wrong) she started out with a kemono model and then went more and more furry until she made a full furry model? but it's definitely possible to get success even if "you're not for everyone" !! filling a niche like that can do wonders ❤️🩹
imo the only thing that bugs me the most is the model that doesn't fit the personality/voice of the vtuber at all. Like loli models with big sis or even mom voices, or a lewd model but the vtuber sounds like a shy girl. At that point I don't care about the design anymore. Unless it's the quirk and part of your character like Enna, Tenma and even Porcelain.
To be honest, I know what you mean but Vtubing is a form of self-expression and even if the voice doesnt fit, people should have fun with it! It can ruin the "immersion" for sure, but the personality of a vtuber is what they make of it, like you mentioned for Porcelain ! This was more so for design purposes, I didnt go into the kayfabe aspect of vtubing in here but it can be important to keep in mind! Another thing I didnt mention in that video is how your model will affect your audience. For example. if you're seiso and want a seiso audience but your model is lewdtuber coded, then you should probably not go the sexy route bc people WILL go into their streams with a certain stereotype mindset etc !! All factors one can/should keep in mind, depending how immersed they want their audience to be!
@@yumekuzukawa I understand! But to be clarified, vtubers that I have an issue with are like only 5%. I didn't mean that if their model have big breast and sexy clothes they have to be lewd. Like Hina from PC, I'm fine with that. The problem is, to put it in perspective, it's like Calli was using Bijou's model. Or Ina was in Kronii's model. The personality and the model are completely crashed with each other. Can it work? Maybe. Could they have better models? Definitely.
thank you so much for still enjoying this video!! You can for sure use this knowledge for other character design aspects as well its rather universal >u< )9 I just put the focal point on vtubing! But most rules can apply to general character creation too for OCs for eample!
i prefer you’re extremely cluttered design, but as a person who is overstimulated insanely fast, your current makes it easier for me to watch the video since i won’t be overstimulated by all the stuff going on🙃
@@Amelie..is..drawing thank you!! that design isn't obsolete it's just reserved for illustration purposes imo it works better for detailed illustrations for the reason you mentioned! since l2d models move around on stream it would be too distracting and not a good viewer experience >< )9 also thank you 🥺❤️🩹
THANK YOU SO MUCH!! honestly you shouldnt be too afraid to add details or such! Not every detail has to be difficulkt to draw, best example I could give is my red cross in the hair! Its big and clunky, a cross is easy to draw since its a simple shape, but it is also a small enough detail to make the hair pop a little more!! maybe the task can become easier if you start thinking 'what shapes can I add' rather than 'what details' if that makes sense? I wish u best of luck designing, you got this!
@@yumekuzukawa my idea was just to make my VTuber model have Faded purple and primary color black secondary white And purple is just highlights and all of that extra stuff if I lose limbs I’ll add robotic ones to my VTuber Model Diamond is my Shape I’m using the most for details I’m using goggles and a hoodie I do plan to make it close to real life me and I do plan to look like my model so I just want to make something nice but usable Drawable and Writable
@@Volo_Starr I see !! a hoodie while, very easy to draw could maybe hinder in recognizability since its a rather common piece of clothing, if you want to make it as close to your irl self as possible I could recommend going for a style you absolutely love in fashion maybe, but maybe cant dress up as due to not getting the items or something, kind of like maybe a self indulgent fantasy you can live through your vtuber design AND THEN!!! get a second cozy outfit for the comfy hoodie look, thats usually a very popular choice for most Vtubers! (no need to put it on a model either, ref sheet works fine!) just an idea though, ofc pls do what you find most enjoyable! The limbs made out of diamond is a sick touch though really cool idea imo!!
@@yumekuzukawaif I could show you my design I would idk how to but I’d like to say my idea is I’ll learn to program to draw and to make clothing just for this purpose it’s important to learn skills so might as well learn skills that could possibly help me throughout the future after I stop vtubing

Best of luck with your model!!!! < )9
I totally get this, my old character had very messy head accessories which were un essential
I think back then I tried to go for a decora vibe where it is essential but I failed to capture decora-esque elements in the rest of the design so it was just cluttered sadly >-

I'd say a good example of sticking to a color palette is Ironmouse, while a good example for not sticking to a color palette is Unnamed
Thats true! Im not too familiar with Unnamed but I know they have like an inverted (?) color design I believe, and/or are very monochromatic if I recall correctly? It can definitely work as well if done right!

I wish you best of luck with it!!!
I’ve been inspired to do vtubing for a few days now, though doing that as a minor would probably be difficult but maybe one day I’ll be able to do it!
I could try to make one! I have a few Tutorials I'd like to do or feedback streams, just..Time is my enemy wuah.. But maybe I can give you some help in form of written text! What helps with coming up with outfits, is, going away from the notion of "drawing/designing" - Meaning that you should look into real life fashion, real life models or influencers who wear said fashion! Living in Japan made this a whole lot easier for me as I can just go to Harajuku and meet incredibly dressed individuals with an amazing sense of style that inspires me, or go to Shops like LaForet which have a good assortment of stores with interesting clothing combinations or pieces that are unique looking.
So essentially, my favorite clothing styles would be "tenshi kawaii" and "shiro lolita" or "2000s goth" - so I tend to look into those clothing styles for inspiration! There are also amazing indie artists who publish their own clothing stuff, one example is pinktaho - Naomi Nikola with her brand Omi Omi! She produces AMAZING clothes which inspire me a lot. So basically, look into real people for inspiration for clothing, you can find them on instagram, twitter or maybe check out apps like "tokyofashion" as they showcase individuals visiting harajuku with amazing and unique outfit combinations! Fashion shows of Paris or something like that are also interesting to watch when its ode couture as its really unique!
I guess the process I follow is, looking for a theme. One Outfit I recently designed was a straitjacket outfit, so I looked into strait jackets and kept it very simple, but I wanted it to have a bit of a "twist" so I added exaggerated long sleeves. I then took inspo from moe 2000s animes and added big locks to the outfit even if they dont make a lot of sense bc 00s characters often times have big items of some sort on their head as accessories! I also re-used the heart shaped buckles of my current main outfit, to have a sense of familiarity, and bc I love shiro-lolita I kept the outfit mainly white!
Another example of an outfit I designed was alice in wonderland themed. I looked into rococo styled dresses, gave it a more modern approach, looked into patterns that would be 'alice themed' such as the striped socks etc and went for alice-inspired accessories like the keys and such even tho Og alice does not have a key in her design! Lots of stuff like that!
If you want to do something really unique you can also combine certain designs! There are so many cool fashion styles out there, be it western or asian styles, one could play with or combine together!
So for summary: Look up a style/vibe you'd like to go for.
Set a base design: F.e. base dress, and then layer ontop of it (add skirt, add straps, add puffy sleeves etc/buttons whatever)
Add acent items or accessories, even if its not something that would normally considered one! (like my big locks I put on the head f.e.)
This way you can "build" an outfit brick by brick! Make sure to ignore colors or patterns, that you can add later, for starters its about the shapes!
I am sorry for such a long reply but I hope it helps since Idk when or if I have time to make a video abt it ;;;

Ive been looking into a lot of videos about getting into vtubing and designing a vtuber and i really like the way you break down different designs
Thank you so much!!! I hope this can actually help >///<
Unfortunately, I'm not that familiar with the RUclips Gaming space, since I primarily stream on twitch, and I wont lie, there is a bias out there fore the conventionally attractive anime style, that attracts most people, if you go for a more westernized style or realism style, it could be more niche!
In my case I'm just admittedly also biased towards cute anime faces LMAO
THAT BEING SAID!

This is really interesting look into character design. When mines all finished i hope it stick out. (It should hopegully its not even human lol).
Best of luck!! If your design isn't human there's a greater chance too cause of lore possibilities !!
Buffpup is a very famous Anthro/Furry Vtuber for example, but I just mentioned it so ppl are aware that it is a niche regardless and it can be more difficult because of it >
Lost count of how many times I want to fan art some vtubers and then I cannot @ the amount of details I'm afraid I'll miss out
In my experience, everyone is happy about fanarts as long as the character resembles their design! Details or not! I hope you can have fun and simplify the design a bit if its too complex

Important would be to inform your community about this and be aware that rebrands can go both ways, you could either gain more followers who are interested in your new design or weed out those who were only interested in your old design, which can be hard but i think it would be worth it to go forward with something you feel comfy with and love!

imo the only thing that bugs me the most is the model that doesn't fit the personality/voice of the vtuber at all.
Definitely.
Models that have voices that don't match the design can be good. That's a great way to give the character the "gap moe".
i am not a vtuber and do not plan on becoming one but this is very cool
thank you so much for still enjoying this video!! You can for sure use this knowledge for other character design aspects as well its rather universal >u< )9 I just put the focal point on vtubing! But most rules can apply to general character creation too for OCs for eample!
i prefer you’re extremely cluttered design, but as a person who is overstimulated insanely fast, your current makes it easier for me to watch the video since i won’t be overstimulated by all the stuff going on🙃
@@Amelie..is..drawing thank you!! that design isn't obsolete it's just reserved for illustration purposes imo it works better for detailed illustrations for the reason you mentioned! since l2d models move around on stream it would be too distracting and not a good viewer experience >< )9 also thank you 🥺❤️🩹
I just basically finished the video great video one issue i am Scared my design may be too basic but easy to draw
@@yumekuzukawa oh and btw how if making the model do you pose it I know you gotta make it face straight but what about the feet I’m not good at drawing feet so I need an idea of how VTuber models are shown face facing outward or inward
