Damn. I’ve now tracked down a copy of the AD&D DM guide. It’ll take me back to my last year of high school. Looking forward to generating my own solo campaign. Cheers.
i took an eye injury on a job-site in a rural area. they sent a helicopter to take me hospital which was exciting... my other eye went out in sympathy and i was blind in a hospital for 5 days. not fun. i recovered pretty good. it was a 5mm corneal abrasion. hope yours heals soon! i know how much it can suck
Talking about shot of life - I have always appreciated your terrain. Some play channels will use movie set, pro commission, custom sculpt, never in a thousand years kind of terrain - but yours is crisp and effective: reminds me of the stuff we use to make at paint night at the old FLGS to play with on game days. Praying for your eye and for your free time!
When I saw the news about Maui I did indeed wonder how you and the fam were doing despite knowing you weren't in the locale, but thanks for allaying those concerns! And excellent video!
The cool thing is that the size of the initial hex chosen sets a population density. But, random encounters during overland travel can add features to a hex without having to define it ahead of time (see %lair). Similarly, the same method is used in setting up a domain which starts in high detail 200 yard hexes. It can scale up from the bottom or drill down from the top effortlessly. So fine.
This is exactly what I have been looking for. I have a chanel i watch that does od&d solo aswell as becmi but im into 1e personally. I also happen to be from Michigan as well. Lol
Some of those features, and numbers in the table, might make more sense on smaller maps. of course, x36 the work, so... yeah... Still, the sparsity of the features become less daunting a challenge some. Still, does an excellent job at displaying the sort of grandeur you can encounter, just wandering around overland.
Family sounds... One side of my room is the living room which is also the grandkids playroom and on the other side is the kitchen were a lot of noise comes out of and if it's in my video it's in my video. I don't do too many do-overs unless there's too much dead air, which is me having brain freeze
Great fun, ...LL is pronounced as if you are saying "Cluck" but omitting uck words. from the back of your tongue Bough is also pronounced as "buh" or "burrah" depending where you live in the UK
Just started watching the series. The order on the playlist is jumbled and earlier episodes are at the bottom, most recent being at the top. This is making sequential watching hard to do.
I tried appendix B generation with 1 mile hexs and that is clearly too small for how much the terrain can change Also the depression result kept really confusing me, especially with how to represent it hence why ive returned to this video
Agreed. When you can blitz through 12 in a day it generates way too much information to be usable. I'm coming around to 4-6 miles as the sweet spot for early exploration.

I found this series late, but love what you were doing here. Wish you'd do this again. Cheers!

Woot! Solo D&D! For future reference, donjon has a pretty decent dice roller (as well as a bunch of other random generators)
I wouldn't want to read 47 rolls on the tiny bar onto which Donjon outputs those results, though.

Good stuff
Good memories
Get better soon!
Heal well
Just rewatched this as I made a map for my own solo game and had a castle in the middle of a massive lake

I like to generate the large scale terrain then treat every 200yd hex as if coming from the parent hex. What do you reckon?
@@Tikimit That's what I do. But you can go both ways.
Glad to hear you're safe! Also, thanks for the shout out! I'm looking forward to seeing how things go.

Glad you guys are fine. Prayers for the rest of your guys on the other island though.
Lol your keyboard was wrecked by naughty birds!, Happened to me, many times! Get well dude!
Just found your channel and very enjoying and informative, plus I love you run the campaign in a normal time (calendar).
Look what you made me do... downloaded the book so I can roll up my own little kingdom :-)

Could this possibly be a Hintervale part 2?
Fingers crossed you don’t roll Owlbears for wandering monsters.

Your comment got buried, but I finally found it and addressed your concern. Happy watching!
